joined United under somewhat strange circumstances for 1.5million from Athletico Madrid where he was mostly playing for their B team.

Initially bought as backup to Giggs, Fortunes adaptability meant that he was regularly deployed central midfield or left back. The South African Ashley Young if you like.

I loved the guy, never say die attitude. A born again Christian who was always the first into a brawl. Roy Keane once said that fortune would always be his first pick in practice teams and five a side

Let’s hear it for Fortune

I liked him too. Was always on the fringes of the team and rarely played but put in a good performance when he did.

We all love United
The South African Jesper Blomqvist, in fact they have almost the same play style

Good squad player and can play in a number of roles for the team. Not sure why he keeps apearing for the United legends though

He's still heavily involved in the club, training with the youth teams and I did his badges with us. He is also regularly on MUTV. Of course he will appear in the legends games.

He's the type of guy that basically just lives at Carrington these days so when it comes to numbers for legends games you can always rely on him.

Loved him! Speaking of appreciation threads, Ronny Johnsen would be an absolute boss in the modern game.
Only if he could stay fit :(
People always harp on about selling Stam but we missed Johnsen to injury a lot too imo.

He played a remarkably low number of games considering the amount time he spent here.

Ala Young one of my favorite squad signings.

Always liked Fortune, he gave maximum effort a whole new meaning

And without a doubt the best South African player we ever signed.

Always liked him. Worked very hard and I don't think I've ever seen him say a bad word about the club.

Nope.

Fortune was all workrate. In my books he was a poor man's Park. Blomqvist was the classical type of winger, armed with a decent cross and devastating pace.

If only he had scored that sitter against Milan though.

Fergie used to hate it when Fortune would go off to the African nations cup in the middle of the season

He always made a point about the inconvience the tournament caused clubs in his press conferences

He was a bit crap but always worked his bollocks off and every now and again he'd pull off one of those cracking big game performances. Pretty sure he bossed Real Madrid in one game from CM. Sort of like the original O'Shea (/Phil Neville?) Except with pace and played less so fewer numpties would moan about him.

Such an average player it was hilarious - can't believe he was a Man United player. Rubbish.

Me too and is a more effective player than Herrera who I’d hoped would be better. Both similar levels but Fortune played in a much better era and team for his style.

Is he normal?
Being South African and having just started supporting United around that time it was amazing to see Quinton play for United. A lot of my friends who were good footballers all of a sudden wanted to make a career out of it really believing they could make it. The likes of Benni had also just moved over to Europe and both of them were from the kind of areas I grew up in, poor communities with high unemployment, low literacy and rife with drugs and gangsterism. QF always had that fighting spirit and he always gave his all for the team.

Never set the world on fire but always did his job and seemed to give everything for the cause. Steady and dependable is often a undervalued skill set.
