I have tried to be optimistic but finding it difficult. From the top of my head, if i were to follow my gut feeling, which isn't optimistic, here are some issues that come to mind regarding our status at present. Doesn’t have to be true of course.

Mourinho is losing the dressing room.

Sanchez wishes he’d never come to the club.

Pogba hasn’t got a clue about his role/position in the team.

Rashford is frustrated by Mourinho’s coaching methods.

Martial has no confidence in himself.

DDG can’t wait until he is playing at the Bernabeu.

We are not going to see entertaining football at OT.

We could have a team consisting of the best players on the planet and we would still struggle.

The heritage of our great club is being damaged and we risk losing our fans, all over the world, through continually producing boring football. Entertaining the fans must be paramount for a club of our stature and because we are not doing that, the problem must be addressed asap.

We cannot have the same manager for a new campaign, damaging the club further and suffering yet another season grinding out results and frustrating the fans.

Now that I’ve poured out my frustration it would be interesting to hear from the more optimistic side of the caf what they can see will happen next season, that can take us in a new direction, if we keep the same coaching staff.

Couldn’t you have just joined the numerous people calling for the manager to be sacked in the Jose thread??

This is just decorating a Jose out post into what seems like a Jose out post. Pointless.

My gut feeling tells me some people are overreacting.

The state of this forum would have us believe all the players were on the bench and 11 Joses were playing on the pitch every matchday

Looking for Eric
I was not optimistic with Moyes.

I was a little optimistic with LVG having got Holland to the sem finals of the World Cup with a fairly average team.

I was very optimistic when Jose was appointed and thought he would have the ability to evolve and understand what Manchester United is about.

Almost at the end of the 2nd season and my optimism has gone.

S.A.F. please use your hairdryer to re-arrange the philosophy of Jose and explain how our club demands more pertaining and attacking football. It would also help if players started to make runs and we pass to them instead of standing still.

Honestly...

The manager is negative by nature and the fans expect an attacking style of football.

The board are being sly. They want to use the attacking brand of old, but chose a manager who they think are a safe bet and will bring solidity, top 4 and the odd trophy. They do this because they panicked post Moyes and the LvG era didn't help either. I'm sure they will want the league long term but want it risk free.

The players are hiding behind the manager. They know he's not got the security of Fergie or the same desire city had when they sought Pep. They know they can give 90% not 100% and they can get away with it.

Our squad lacks depth in terms of quality. In most positions our second string provide no threat to the first teams starting spot. This helps breed complacency. The only exception is left wing and in goal.

We've got tonnes of defenders but who's a clear cut better player? None. Rotation doesn't improve the standard.

The manager knows he can hide behind his players. He knows a lot of them are not popular with the fanbase, he knows nobody is a clear cut performer on the pitch so he can dump on them to cover up his failings, especially those players he plans to get rid of.

---

The solution in my mind is to give the manager enough rope. He'll either succeed or hang himself with it. We're on number 3 in 5 years, it's not transformed anything. Let's change tact a bit, let him carry on as long as we get a trophy a year, top 4 minimum and put up a real title challenge every year.

I just don't understand where the direction or inspiration in this team comes from. As effective as we have been at times we look utterly rudderless in the way we play.

Gut feeling...

  • Mourinho doesn't trust the defence and as such doesn't allow the team to sit as deep as they need to to create the space to play true counter attacking football.
  • Our fullbacks are in their 30s and can no longer rampage up and down the line and provide genuine width.
  • Honestly? I think Martial has shown himself to be lazy. I'm sick and tired of watching him stand still or jog back if a pass that was meant for him was intercepted. I'm also pretty tired of seeing the same people that protect him crying that we don't play like Liverpool do.

I think you need to start of by finding out what optimism means. Now that you’ve dumped your irrational fears, create a thread dumping out all your positive thoughts then we can have a real discussion

Ok my positive thoughts refer to the squad. Pogba, for example is a class act imo and I believe would perform better under a different manager. Sanchez also for that matter. We've got the players just need a few additions and we could be up there. A few positives!

I think we have enough threads discussing this already. No need for a new one.

Also, wtf is with all those ............... in the title @Crazy Horse? Less of that please.
