As a huge fan of the book series, I'm delighted to see that Amazon have bought the TV rights for Iain M Banks' Culture series.

Consider Phlebas arrives as Amazon has been on a mission — a mandate from CEO Jeff Bezos — to find its Game of Thrones. The streamer has since spent $250 million on global rights to a Lord of the Rings TV series in a deal with the J.R.R. Tolkien estate that started with outreach from ousted head Roy Price but ultimately was sealed by Yguado. Other genre plays at Amazon have included Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's The Boys and Ringworld, among others.

“Iain Banks has long been a hero of mine, and his innate warmth, humor and humanism shines through these novels,” Kelly said. “Far from being the dystopian nightmares that we are used to, Banks creates a kind of flawed paradise, a society truly worth fighting for — rather than a warning from the future, his books are a beckoning."

Can't wait! Will be a long time before we see this on TV but it seems Amazon paid a bug sum for the rights.

For anyone not familiar, this is what Wiki says..
The Culture series is a science fiction series written by Scottish author Iain M. Banks. The stories center on the Culture, a utopian, post-scarcity space society of humanoids, aliens, and very advanced artificial intelligences living in Socialist habitats spread across the Milky Way galaxy. The main theme of the novels is the dilemmas that an idealistic hyperpower faces in dealing with civilizations that do not share its ideals, and whose behavior it sometimes finds repulsive. In some of the stories, action takes place mainly in non-Culture environments, and the leading characters are often on the fringes of (or non-members of) the Culture, sometimes acting as agents of Culture (knowing and unknowing) in its plans to civilize the galaxy.

Really interesting premise. I finish my studies for a little over a year in a month or so and was hoping a good book series might rear it’s head.

Is it a complete series?

I believe every book is independent on other. Same universe, but different places and times. Player of Games was great (but not sure if it would be so as a live action show), and Consider Phlebas good, and space operish so might work better as a show.

Have you ever read any Ian Banks? (without the M) Some cracking standalone books. Same bloke. He added the M as his sci fi alter ego.
I’ve not, no, but I’ll probably give it a miss if that’s the extent of his creativity and guise.

Had a copy of Consider Phlebas on my shelf for ages waiting for a read, spose this might provoke me into starting. All I know is that the ship names tend to be odd.
