Liverpool connections at Rangers:
  • The Rangers chairman is close friends with Dalglish and sat beside Dalglish during the first leg of the CL semi final game.
  • Andy Scoulding - Rangers head of scouting - also worked with Gerrard in previous roles at Liverpool and England.

That could in reality become another nearly winning the league moment for him..

Anyone even considering taking the Rangers job, would be well advised to read Phil MacGiolla Bhain's blog https://philmacgiollabhain.ie/ to get an insight into the club's financial situation. It is a near impossible situation for whoever is the manager, as the club has been continually spending money it doesn't have, then desperately trying to survive from month to month.

Even the members of the board that had been providing loans to keep the business alive, have decided to stop funding the business. King talks about over-investing yet seems astonishingly reluctant to use his own money. The take-over panel's verdict should force him to offer to buy those shares he didn't buy during the original take-over but the price is way above what the shares would be worth right now.

He does know a lot about clubs who used to win lots of league titles but now largely live on former glories.

Don't sign old players and cast offs
The guy whose every manager thought he was too dim to play in his own favourite central midfield position and tried to move him out wide or further up.
Great athlete but not the brightest.

I see. Still, the Liverpool-Celtic connection is surely stronger. Don't see him inspiring the huns to win over a far superior Celtic squad.

Gerrard trying not to sing You'll Never Walk Alone will be funny.

Although for as much as I'm taking the piss, fair play to him...big job to jump into where he'll get a lot of stick if it goes wrong. If he does take it.

Meanwhile, Brendan has distanced himself from the Arsenal job by talking about it for the 95th time in a week.
Brendan Rodgers OBE said:
"Arsenal are a great club, they have a great manager and they are going through a tough time of course. "

"People will look at it and see that I went to Liverpool, they were struggling for five seasons for Champions League football and I was able to get them back."

"And when I came to Celtic, they hadn't been in the Champions League for two seasons and I got them back."
More modesty:

A risky proposition but if he does take it on then fair play. Much more sensible than Neville taking on the Valencia job. If he does manages to somehow win the league title over Celtic, then his valuation will certainly soar.

Celtic are years ahead of the rest, they aren’t being topped anytime soon. It will be hard to catch them especially with the non existent budget Rangers have.

Phil’s a huge bigot though so his material needs to come with a health warning.

Obviously it worked out so well for the last Liverpool legend to take his first management job in Glasgow.

I thought these "he was a great player, let's make him head coach with basically zero experience" appointments were a thing of the past.

You’d think yes. But King’s got connections to Liverpool and is looking for a quick crowd-pleasing move to appease a pissed-off support.

St Baldy does not like this post.
I assume you mean Guardiola? He (as well as Zidane) was trialled at one of club's own youth teams. My previous post was worded a bit poorly I know. But I think it makes a big difference if you have someone coaching at your own club so whoever decides the new coaching position can literally watch his every move and pick his brain every step of the way compared to someone who is working elsewhere, where you don't have that kind of access.

Rangers seem poorly run. Can’t see why any new manager would go there.
