Supposedly very reliable for Man City but starting to branch out to United, he confirmed Alexis for us. Tweet doesn't say he will be a United player but just validates firm interest and that we are the most likely ones.

City journalist speculating warrants a thread? I would like to see something more concrete before the fest begins.

Maybe City enquired and were given feedback that Alderweireld had already agreed to move elsewhere, the City journalists were all over the Sanchez stuff and Lee's also mentioned Fred to United (another City target).

Sam Lee is a united fan based on his own tweets from the past.
So he says but I'm very sceptical of that, the way he gushes over City is quite telling.

He didn't confirm Alexis. He is the City PR team's mouthpiece in the press and he was running with the line that there was no chance Alexis would join United over City for a long time after Di Mazrio broke the story, basically what City believed.

I don't see this happening at all. Toby probably wants the move but Levy will find another buyer and sell cheaper to a PSG or Bayern Munich and will troll us like Bale.

Can Levy sell a player to some club he doesn't want to go,surely he can't force him to go to another club if Toby wants to come here.
One thing is almost certain, Toby is most probably leaving Spurs this year and I don't think PSG with their FFP issues can shell out 40 million on a 29 year old CB.
Does Bayern even need a CB
I can see Real trying for him, even Chelsea
But Real will be prioritizing a top forward this summer and Chelsea won't probably qualify for CL.
I think we have a very good chance of we make a move early

I don’t see us spending money on a CB.

We’ve just given Rojo a new contract and have Smalling, Jones, Bailey and Lindelof.

The priorities this summer is at fullback, in midfield and possibly a genuine winger if Martial demands a move.

Yeah he's a good player and all, but do we even need him at this point ?

Yes our CBs are not the greatest, however, we still need to buy fullbacks, which I feel, are more of a priority. Overhauling the whole defence will cost a lot of money, and might destabilise it as well.

Why on earth would Bayern want him? They already have Sule, Martinez, Hummels and Boateng to play at CB. PSG is a possibility but they have more glaring holes in their team right now, not to mention they're supposedly struggling with FFP and are already dropping 150m on Mbappe this summer.

He's arguably the best CB in the league and has been for quite a while now. We'll still sign a full back or possibly two, but turning down Alderweireld would be stupid. Going on what Mourinho has said over the last few months and some of the rumours posted we seem far more keen on a LB than a RB, I strongly suspect we'll end up signing Alderweireld, Tierney and Fred and leave signing a RB until next season (hope I'm wrong though).

Think it's a situation where we'll buy an upgrade if it's a big one or just keep what we have. Alderweireld fits the bill.

He isn't, he is the third choice center back for Spurs, ffs.
Only because he's leaving though. There can be a debate on who's better between him and Vertonghen but even then, Sanches isn't part of the discussion

Jones and Rojo could leave.
If that's the case, it makes sense.

He got injured then refused to sign a new contract and seems to be leaving this summer, he's only third choice based on that, not ability. He's absolutely fantastic, whether he's best or not is down to opinion but I fully believe he's the best.

What? City AREN'T in for a centre back this window?
I call bullshit, what kind of crazy World does this guy think we live in?
Well they got one just a few months back also I get the feeling they could be looking at a superstar signing, maybe someone like Dybala or even Griezzman

Come one man, you know full well that he's Spurs first choice CB, but not signing a new contract means Poch will do what Poch always does.
I would definitely pick Vertonghen ahead of him on the basis of last 3 seasons. Toby is a great center back and I would love to have him here, but this "best CB in the Premier league" cliche is an outdated myth. Whatever the reasons, he hasn't played much this year, and if he was that big of an upgrade on today's Sanchez, he would've been picked and played by Pochettino.

Have you seen him play? He's been the best CB in the league the past 2 seasons.

He pulled his hammy and while out refused to sign a new deal. That's why he's not back in the team.

Was absolutely miles better than Vertonghen up until the contract issues.

As for "he would've been picked and played by Pochettino"... no he wouldn't, that's the way Poch treats players who want out, doesn't matter how good you are.

Alderweireld is class and would be a good partner to Smalling.

However he would cost a lot and CB cannot be a priority for us this summer considering our problems at both full back positions and right wing.

Not sure he'd cost loads.

He's 29, not played for a while, has 1 year left on his contracts and if Spurs trigger a 12 month extension he'll have a £25m buy out clause.

Think he'd probably cost around £30m

Yeah, you are right. I read up on his reporting and looks like he got the Sanchez transfer spot on.

If we can get him for a reasonable price then yes please, he's a bloody good defender. I would say he's been one of the best if not the best for the past few seasons. Also It's no coincidence that he's been apart of the best defence records for several seasons.

Yup this has been mentioned by several pundits. Alderweireld is a brilliant defender - but what really makes him stand out is his ability to organize the other defenders

Would be a great signing. How much would he cost though? 60-plus i imagine.

Rumour has it Spurs are after about £50m for him, he's not got that long left on his contract apparently.

I’d love Alderweireld to sign for us but we’ve spent so much on signing quantity over quality that we’re fully stocked at centre back and would need to sell at least two centre backs.

We’ve got Bailly, Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Lindelof, Tuanzebe and Blind already so even though Alderweireld is an upgrade on every single one of centre back choices it’s going to take some serious upheaval to bring him in.

I’d happily see Rojo, Lindelof and Blind all go as we’d probably bring in £50+ million from that which would pay for Alex Sandro and when you throw in Darmian and most likely Shaw going too that would pay for most of Alderweireld but I just don’t see Jose doing that despite loving the idea of him doing so.

Smalling looks great alongside a ball playing centre back which is why he looked immense alongside Blind so I can imagine alongside a genuine centre back and upgrade on Blind we’d see Smalling look like that player again and Jones always looks best being led through by a leader.

We've got stock full of CBs

Bailly & Lindelof just bought in.
Rojo just offered a new contract.
We get more service out of Jones than the fee we might get by selling him.
Tuanzebe and Fosu Mensah need games.

So the only ones that could be pushed out are Blind and Smalling, who might net a good transfer fee.

Why wouldn't they? They got James, Goretzka, Tolisso, and Coman they don't "need" any of them. Kovac plays a 3 cb system, Martinez is their cdm with Vidal likely gone. Boating is their Phil Jones. Levy will probably give them a bargain, they could afford his wages. You think Bayern Munich cares if they added him, their bench can compete in the EPL. They will compete for trophies every year, we can't even compete with Sevilla.

FFP is a joke, nothing is going to happen to PSG. Qatar will write UEFA a fat check and will look the other way.

Can Levy sell a player to some club he doesn't want to go,surely he can't force him to go to another club if Toby wants to come here.

Can United sell a player to Liverpool or City if a player wants to go there? Levy hates us and we know he's a vindictive person. We will be the very last resort.
