@Damien @Raoul can I have a poll for this please? Options;

1. Win the league unbeaten
2. Win the league with 100+ points but take a loss

Genuinely baffled that the unbeaten season Barcelona could have is seen as not that impressive a feat.

Absolutely Unbeaten.

Psychologically more difficult as there is pressure on every match. City hasnt had pressure in weeks.

Unbeaten to win title as there's no blemish. Records points total after losing at home to Levante not as perfect.

On paper, 100 points is the better achievement, but I’d much prefer going unbeaten. There’s a certain aura of having The Invincibles label associated with you. Much nicer tone than The Hundred Pointers.

I’d go for the 100+ points. Arsenal went unbeaten but drew 12 games. 12 boring draws.

Would you rather;

A) played 38, won 36, drew 2 PTS 110
B) played 38, won 37, lost 1 PTS 111

?

This. Every team will try to be the team to put that blemish on your record right up to the final game of the season (even if the title and relegation is decided).

Unbeaten with 110 points since I would like knowing that no one in the league got the better of me in a season.

I'd prefer whatever gives the most points, as that is the measure of success in the league.

Also, you're not really invincible if you lose 3-0 to Roma.
This is about a league only. If any team ever wins a treble undefeated then obviously it dwarves just the league.

The measure of success is winning the thing. So if you knew you were going to win the league at the start of the season, would you rather do it as an unbeaten team or take a loss or two?

111 points, obviously since 1 win and 1 loss is better than 2 draws.

Would you rather 80 points and unbeaten or 111 points and not unbeaten?
So long as I win the title, 80 points and unbeaten.

There’s absolutely no way you’d take 111 points over 110 for the sake of 1 loss = less points dropped than 2 draws, no way.

I'd prefer most points. 37 - 0 - 1 e.g. is the third best possible league run, only 38 wins and 37 - 1 - 0 is better.

More points. It's harder to win football matches than it is to not lose them. More points means you won more games of football.

Doesn't matter, I just won the league.

Why would I not? Because you've arbitrarily decided that not losing one game is more important than actually getting more points which just happens to be the whole point of the sport?

Out of the two, going unbeaten for sure. Pressure is on you from the first game to the last. That Arsenal side played Leicester on the last day and although the league had been wrapped up for weeks, they went out with the intention to not lose the match.

As far as the points tally our 1994 squad racked up 92 points and did it with 13 players regular players all year. You got the odd youth player making an appearance, but you basically had our starting 11 playing almost every match. That was a massive achievement. And what a starting 11 it was.

Then neither Arsenal but they still kept that title for their team. Whatever happens in a different tournament has no bearing on the league.

80% of the people here are saying unbeaten yet only one person has voted for it :annoyed:

More points is objectively indicative of a better performance IMO, but unbeaten just feels better.

Overall I'd take unbeaten but if it was a choice as wide as 100 points or 80 and unbeaten, I'd probably take the 100.

The label "Invincibles" is far too rare. I will take unbeaten season in a heartbeat than than having 100+ points. The face value of going full season undefeated is quite a feat.

Like...I get why it's incredible and all to go unbeaten because of how rare it is and how common it is for teams to slip up once or twice over a 38-game season, but objectively speaking finishing with more points is better. The goal of a league isn't to just not lose games...because that can involve drawing a feck-ton, and mathematically a draw is closer to a loss than a win. Arsenal's feat in 03-04 was phenomenal, but compare their tally to City's this year and they'd have lost the titles with games to spare.

Look at Juventus' 2012-12 season for an interesting example. They did extraordinarily well to go unbeaten, yes, but did draw 15 games and won a mere 23, a tally that's fairly low for a title-winning side. Hypothetically a side that season performing like City this year would've blown them out of the water.

A similar analogy would be referring to a team who scores lot of goals. A team who hypothetically hits 120 goals in a PL season would be undertaking a remarkable achievement because that's not something which realistically happens at the top level; contrarily though if they also conceded 60 and lost out to a team who scored 90 but only conceded 20 then the latter team is objectively more successful in every way. Even though the losing teams mustered a historic achievement that's generally an indicator of success.

Depends on the points total. 37-0-1 is far more impressive than 26-12-0 so I'd take that. But if it's closer, say, 33-5-0 then I'd take unbeaten to piss off Arsenal fans.

Not that we have to worry about either scenario any time soon.

More points obviously. It's a league and that's the goal of the thing.

Now an unbeaten champions league title is a far bigger achievement than both like 99 and 08.

Maximum points in the league, that is the essence of any league campaign to get as many points as possible.

It's a bit of a foolish question

Winning the league is ask that matters . How you win it doesn't come into it .

Personally a last day win tops both for me
