Yaya Toure: We put Manchester United in City's shadow - that's my greatest achievement.

They can never talk about their success without mentioning us, so no. They will always be in our shadow.

Are you watching closely?

Nobody really gives a feck about City (not even their own fans judging by Etihad), and everyone knows that the only reason they are where they are is unlimited access to Arab oil money. Hardly impressive in any way.

Erm, they put us in their shadow for all of 3-4 years. And even then we haven't exactly been relegated, and have actually beaten them on their turf quite a few times.

Yaya should come back when he's 50 years old and then see where the two clubs are to make this point.

Its easy to say that, looking at the 'state of play' as it is right this second. But I think they have a few years to go before they can make that claim. We have all but guaranteed a worthy 2nd place to a brilliant City side - this season. Im not sure what the benchmark time period should be when working these things out, but around 5-10 years would seem fair (this is what is used for UEFA coefficients etc). City have been more successful than us over this period, but fact is we have been a side in massive transition, whereas they are a side that has (finally) gained some sort of stability in its playing side etc, after several years of massive rotation of players.

Currently, it is not even close. You have to look at these things with some perspective, and in a larger time frame. Whether you look at the last five, ten or whatever years, they have done nothing to suggest we are in their shadow. And that is looking only at results in the domestic league.

Add that they have failed to conquer Europe, have a limited fan-base, have produced little if any local talents etc. they are nowhere near us in the grander scheme of things.

They were good in the league this year though. Kudos.

Finishing above a side with league positions of 7th, 5th and 6th isn't something to brag about tbh.
Thats only using the City v Utd dynamic as well.

Yes, but only if They stop making cringy promotional videos (sponsored by Etisalad). They have to remind everyone how good They are through shitty ads and songs - it's them in our shadow .

He didn't even contribute much. He's not Aguero ffs, fecking birthday kid. Might as well change the club's name to Manchester Cringy.

City are obsessed

Premier league also ran that will never come close to discussions about the league's best midfielder and whose legacy will be a strop about his birthday.

Since Toure's been at City they've won:

EPL: 11/12, 13/14, 17/18
FA Cup: 10/11
League Cup: 13/14, 15/16, 17/18
Community Shield: 12/13

United have won:

EPL: 10/11, 12,13
FA Cup: 15/16
League Cup: 16/17
Europa League: 16/17
Community Shield: 10/11, 11/12, 13/14, 16/17

Obviously, you'd rather have City's record, particularly since Fergie left - but this hardly equates to us being in their shadow. Right now, they're doing better than us on the pitch, but it will take a much linger period of dominance for Toure's claims to be true. Plus they'd need to achieve success in Europe.

*I know counting community shields is petty.

Yaya's been licking Guardiola's rear end ever since Pep won the spat with his agent and got him to apologize. Been weird.

I can see his motivation though. Lip service are easy and their fans will day top blue give him a contract.

Many of our players did that, albeit in a different way. I doubt many of them really loved the club.

3 titles in 7 years isn't enough for them to put anyone in their shadow

A team that won a grand total of 0 European trophies surely put us in our place.

And people actually want us to sign this obsessed clown.

Talk about an inferiority complex. Winning titles isn't his greatest achievement but 'putting United in City's shadow' is. City have won 2 titles and United 1 in the last 5 years. That's a massive shadow.

Speaks volumes about his career really.

Shite.
2 spanish titles, 2 english titles (bit farcical to count this year's title for him, so I won't) a champions league and African Cup of nations trophy isn't shite by anyone's standards.

You misunderstood. The highlight of his career is something that isn't even true. There lies the issue.

United were certainly in City's shadow last month at the Etihad. You know when the whole stadium was crying.

I remember a blue 'mate' around the time of the takeover telling me to prepare for "...a lifetime in city's shadow."

This type of rhetoric is deeply ingrained in the city psyche. They're defined by not being us.

We've won 13 of the last 26 titles, and 2 Champions Leagues in that time.
They've won the title 5 times in 138 years, and never won the Champions League.

You can't have your cake and eat it Yaya.

This City generation have won only 2 league titles in the last 5 years. Chelsea also won 2 league titles in the same period so I don't know what he's talking about. It's not like they have dominated the league post SAF or anything.

Give the man a cake!

Nothing to see here, the fact that he mentions us sort of negates his point. Grumpy old man

Since Toure's been at City they've won:

EPL: 11/12, 13/14, 17/18
FA Cup: 10/11
League Cup: 13/14, 15/16, 17/18
Community Shield: 12/13

United have won:

EPL: 10/11, 12,13
FA Cup: 15/16
League Cup: 16/17
Europa League: 16/17
Community Shield: 10/11, 11/12, 13/14, 16/17

And he didn't even play a major part in the last league title and league cup win. Deep down he knows he's chatting BS, just talking to appease the fans.

United Compared to City
League Winners: 20 v 5
FA Cup: 12 v 5
League Cup: 5 v 5
Charity Shield: 21 v 4

European Cup: 3 v 0
UEFA Cup: 1 v 0
CW Cup: 1 v 1
Super Cup: 1 v 0
Intercontinental: 1 v 0
Club World Cup: 1 v 0

Are City currently the better team, yes, that's fair to say that they are.
But are United in City's shadow? That's laughably short termism.

considering a big part of City's claim to fame is being our neighbours...

but he has to make that type of statement though, and to be fair, in recent years, we made it all to easy for them. he's not the only one that believes/says that either, now more than ever, football seems to have an incredibly short memory and while we have been faltering, be it with major trophies or play style, they are the in the moment team/club. Its still incredibly weird to me when i open twitter and see people outside of manchester supporting City.
