I'm tempted, but I'd like Divinity Original Sin 2 first. These games are a large time investment.

Pro tip: Don't disobey the god at the start... Or, do, and see what happens.

Divinity 2 is fecking incredible.

I'd be surprised if this is anywhere as good!
I thought the first Divinity game was pretty mediocre, while Pillars sits in my top three to five CRPGs of all time. Not played the second Divinity game, but I'm 10 hours into PoE2, and really enjoying it so far.

Hmmm. Quite tempted by this. Wasn't that impressed with the original, as I got bored about 10 hours in... which never happened to me on BG2 for example. However the reviews are really good for this, and it does look interesting.

I wouldn't disagree about the first Divinity, the second is on a whole other level. Masterpiece.

First Pillars was pretty good but flawed. Seems this one has addressed a lot of those problems at least.

It's out! Great reviews so far! http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/pillars-of-eternity-ii-deadfire

I really liked the first one, but sadly never finished it. Got to Twin Elms or something. There's an opportunity to load PoE 1 savegames or create a backstory in II.

Anyone else about to start playing this one? :)
I backed the crowdfunding campaign on Fig, and when the launch was delayed, I couldn't wait any longer and invested anoher $20 to give the beta a go. Was delayed by work for one day, but got through the opening sequence yesterday evening :)

I don't even remember the story of the first game, which is weird considering that Chris Avellone wrote it (Planescape Torment, Kotor 2 are some of the games with greatest and most complex stories).

I am probably gonna skip this.

Chris Avellone only really had a prominent writing role in two companions for the first game (Grieving Mother and Durance) according to himself. He wasn't involved at all with 2: Deadfire's writing.

I was under impression that he was main writer of the first game. I know that he isn't involved on this considering that he has left Obsidian.

Anyway, I didn't find the story of the first game interesting enough and hardly remember anything.

Maybe that's a good thing. I don't remember being impressed with Grieving Mother.

Might have to try it. I know I'm in a very small group here, but I didn't like the combat in the first game... Felt too slow, even for a turn based game. I'd rather play Shadowrun. And don't get me started on the story :wenger: That said though, I did only make it 20 hours in, so it's unfair for me to properly judge the narrative.

Pillars 1 was definitely flawed (Caed Nua management was dull, the writing wasn't up to the standards of PS:T or SR-DF, difficulty was sporadic with the game being hard for a bit, then easy until the last boss) - And probably more besides! That said, it always had a charm that other recent RPG releases just don't have for me. Plus, like you say, the sequel has bettered so many aspects of the game: Production quality is definitely higher, the writing (18 hours in) seems better & more varied, the side-content feels more fleshed out, there's more voice acting, better music, the option to play with enemy scaling (in either/both directions), and some of the tediousness has been taken out of magic use.

It's not perfect, though. Performance is, at times, laughable, and the difficulty isn't anywhere near where it should be (I'm playing on veteran & it feels like I'm playing on normal or lower... Maybe I really should've started with a Path of the Damned playthrough).

The ship stuff is surprisingly enjoyable. I usually hate anything & everything pirate themed.

is it just me that cannot stand these "birds eye" view real time strategy games like WOW, divinity 2 etc

They look so bland with 0 story, shitty graphics and no real fun. I dont know how you guys do it
 they're RPGs, and WoW is 3rd person. What you on about?

...

Firstly, so casually throwing an isometric RPG with a first person/third person MMO is ridiculous. Secondly, WoW is 14 years old, and is still one of the best looking games in its genre, with an art style that's loved by many - And don't get me started on Pillars... It's like a handpainting!

Story on WoW is naff nowadays to be fair, but I'd put Pillars up against anything in its genre other than a handful of classic RPGs like System Shock & Planescape.

Basically any game like this, where your view is up on high, youve got spell buttons everywhere on the bottom and top with the casual player avatars on the left or right. So basically WOW, Divinity, POE etc

Its so boring and lame, whats so good about it? I might buy Divinity 2 to see what the big deal is

You've already decided they're boring and lame, presumably without even trying one. Why waste your money, you've already made up your mind.

I'm not, i'm genuinely confused why people like these games, whats so good about them? If they can convince me i'll buy it and try it out since some reviews are glowing but eh

Tbf i did say this about Skyrim until i tried it on VR and was blown away. If they're just alright then i can avoid but if they're 10/10 like some people claim Divinity 2 or POE2 is, i might try it

Story of Pillars crushes the overwhelming majority of RPGs. WoW is still the best MMO on the market, so if you like hooking up with people & killing dragons then WoW is amazing (although that screenshot you linked is terrible).

To each their own. I personally think the latest Tomb Raider games are absolutely terrible, Naughty Dog have only made one great game since the PS2 (and it's not TLOU), and Witcher 2 is better than Witcher 3 (although Witcher 3 is still great).

I didn't like Divinity 1, yet to play Divinity 2. No idea.
These are some of my favourite games, would i possibly enjoy POE?

Skyrim, Fallout, Witcher 3, Nier, Persona 5, Horizon Zero dawn, final fantasy, God of war, Uncharted, Monster hunter, Bloodborne, metal gear, dark souls, last of us

Yes, you've said, we heard you. Why are you repeating yourself?
Look mate, i'm sorry i offended you now lets move on

Skyrim is trash.
Bethesda's Fallout games are trash.
Witcher 3 is great.
Yet to play Nier.
Persona 5 is solid.
Yet to play Horizon.
Final Fantasy has been shit since the PS1.
God of War is a lot of fun, yet to play the latest one .
Uncharted was fun but grew stale.
Bloodborne/Souls are top tier.
Metal Gear is lovably mental.
TLOU is the most overrated game of all time.

Those are my thoughts. I don't know how anyone can criticize the combat of games they've not played while liking recent Final Fantasy releases and Skyrim, though

I'd say give it a try. I'd be playing it right now if it wasn't for WoW chores.

How does POE compare with the games you rated highly?

Skyrim on VR is a blast and i only liked the recent Final fantasy for the story

They're entirely different, but they all have (in my opinion) enjoyable gameplay, and Pillars definitely doesn't fall behind on story, lore, and artistic merit.

Officially the best poker player on RAWK.
Fine i'll leave, cant ask anything these days without triggering someone
It would help if you even knew the genre of games you are trashing. Or at least played one before telling everyone they are shit.

Then again, you listed Skyrim as one of your favourite games, so I've no idea why anybody is taking you seriously anyway ;)

I think that most of people who played games before 2010 have some kind of dislike for Skyrim. Not cause it is a terrible game (it is a good game actually), but because it is nowhere as good as people claim.
