NM writeup

Batting:

1. Gibbs - Great opener with average of 54 and 85+ strike rate in ICC tournaments. Great fielder!
2. Dilshan - Aggressive opener. Great stats (average of near 50 at nearly 90 Strike Rate) and a useful spinner too. Will be my fifth bowler with Yuvraj
3. Dravid - The Wall. Ideal player to anchor the innings with all the stroke makers around him. Average of 55 @ 74
4. Williamson - Top class. Average of 48 and strike rate of 88 in ICC tournaments
5. Yuvi - ICC Tournament GOAT contender. 45 average with nearly 90 strike rate
6. Bevan - ODI goat and decent ICC player (Average of 40ish)
7. Imran Khan - Can rebuild in times of crisis and smash it if needed at the end.
Brilliant player.
8. Richard Hadlee - Great all rounder (poor average in World Cups) but he is a fantastic number 8!
9. Morkel - can wack the ball
Tail - they will try and fail to wack the ball

Bowling:
1. Imran Khan (Fast) - Average of 19, econ of 3.8, strike rate of 29 Legend!
2. Hadlee (Fast) - Average of 19 econ of 2.88. Brilliant,
3. Walsh (Fast) - Average of 20, econ of 3.5, legendary bowler
3. Morkel (Fast)- Average of 20, strike rate of 26. Wicket taker
5. Qadir (LS) - Average of 21, econ of 3.8 strike rate of 32. Wicket taker
6. Yuvraj (SLA)- Average of 27, and strike rate of 33
7. Dilshan (OS) - Average of 38 and strike rate of 38. Will bowl a few overs if needed

Why I win:
1. Amazing Bowlers: All 5 of my main Bowlers average 21 or less, all are wicket takers and my sixth bowler averages 27 and is a wicket taker too. I even have a 7th(Dilshan) in case multiple bowlers have an off-day! My bowlers are legends of the game - Imran, Hadlee, Walsh, and Qadir. I have amazing balance - Pace, and all 3 types of spin.

2. Amazing fielders: Bevan, Gibbs, Williamson, Yuvi - we will be getting some run outs, and saving 20+ runs in the field

3. Balance batting: Two aggressive openers, great innings builders in Dravid and Williamson Williamson, two GOAT finishers in Yuvi and Bevan, and the experienced legends in the lower middle order (Imran, Hadlee) in case of trouble. All bases are covered.

One note: My stats are ICC Trophy + World Cup.

Overall, I take this in a close one due to better bowling, much better fielding, and a better balanced batting.

Crappy writeup

Batting

The great Viv Richards leads the line up with a 100 against his name in a WC final. He was pretty much the best batsman in world ups until Sachin came about. Sangakarra, one of the best players of all time in any format and Martin Crowe, player of the tournament in 92 WC, further cements the middle order. Crowe was phenomenal in that world cup both as a player and a captain. Ganguly and Jayasuriya open the batting. Ganguly, an all time ODI great, has exceptional ICC record. Jayasuriya, man of the series for WC 1996, will be the X factor upfront. Watson will play the role of enforcer/finisher in the line up with support of Brendon Taylor, who was absolutely brilliant for Zimbabwe in 2015 WC with aggregate of 405 runs.

Bowling

Alan Donald, Zaheer Khan and Mitchell Starc is a superb trio of pacers. Donald was consistent for SA in WCs as his records reflects while Zaheer Khan had a great world cup for India in 2003 (despite the poor performance in the final) and was possibly India's second most important player in 2011 World cup win. Even in the 2011 final where his final figures were not good due to leaking runs in the end, he pretty much set up the win by choking SriLanka at the beginning of the innings. Starc was the best player in 2011 WC final and the very reason Oz won that WC. Mushtaq Ahmed takes up the role of spinner having played the same role in 92 WC win for Pakistan with excellent figures. Watson and Jayasuriya join the line up with both capable of bowling 10 overs each. Other bowling options are Richards and Ganguly making 8 bowlers in total.

Summary - 10 out of 11 players have better record in ICC tournaments compared to their career one. (Borderline for Donald too). Overall team has great pedigree in terms of historically great ODI players with match winning performances in world cups.

This is another tough one. The addition of Jayasuriya into Crappy's line-up just about swings it for me.

Close contest as usual as semi used to be,at first instance this look like NM got better balance on all three fronts at the same time crappy’s top 4 of 5 is fantastic. Will vote later based on how the argument goes.

Don’t think NMs batting is anywhere close to mine. Bar Yuvi (and at a stretch Gibbs), no one from his team would get into my batting lineup given the context of this draft.

Bowling wise he has bigger names but if you take into account the WC performances it’s a different story. Starc was phenomenal in 2015 and Zaheer was the best bowler in 2011 edition. Mushtaq had a great run in 92 WC. Donald is Donald.

This is a joke post.

My players are EASILY getting into your batting line up ahead of Brendan Taylor, Watson and JAyasuriya.. Just using stats.

Also the bowling doesn't lie either. My top 5 just have better stats in the context with Starc being the only one of your bowlers being better.

My lower middle order goes much deeper and I have more variety too.

If we use ICC stats, here's how it goes:

Batting:
Ganguly > Gibbs (Though I'd question how he would do against Morkel, Imran and Hadlee)
Jayasuriya << Dilshan
Sanga < Dravid
Viv > Williamson
Crowe > Yuvi
Taylor < Bevan (sorry - look at who Taylor made his runs against)
Watson> Imran
?? <Hadlee

I have more depth, even if he has more quality. And there isn't a big difference.

Bowling:

Starc> Imran
Zaheer<Hadlee
Donald<Morkel
Ahmed<Qadir
Watson<Walsh

My part timers average is about 7 runs better too..

There's no contest objectively in the bowlers.

WTF Dravid > Sanga in ODis and WC? Just going blindly by stats is idiotic. Ganguly has a better average than even Sachin in ICC tournaments. Is he better? Don't be a moron.

And I am writting joke posts. Dilshan is not better than Jayasuriya (>>). You probably think Rohit Sharma is the best opener in ODIs of all time. Jayasuriya is an all time great for SRL and the main reason why they won the WC.

Yuvraj would get in my line up ahead of Taylor. That's about it. Bevan is an ODI great but there is a reason why he was picked so late in this draft. He should not be featuring in SFs of this draft at all. Morkel > Donald? On what planet? I would take Zaheer's performances for us in 2011 over Hadlee anyway. Just watching his opening spell in WC final against Lanka. That alone tipped the game in our favor other wise they would have scored around 300.

Ok, firstly, great name calling. Secondly, its an ICC draft. That's the purpose of the fecking game. In this tournament, guess what, Dravid is better. Heck in real life better too IMO.

Why don't we watch Zaheer's spell in 2003 against Aus. 7 overs for 67. You can't just pick his 2011 and ignore the previous past ffs.

What's the point in having an ICC draft if ICC stats are ignored.

I get being partisan for your side, but your going over the board. JOKE POST.

Stats are not everything. You are just going by averages anyway. Ganguly's better than Sachin. So is he or is he not a better batsman than Sachin for ICC tournaments?

It is not about ignoring stats but by your way, we should not have any voting but just compare stats against stats and decide which team is better. Stats only work with context.

Sanga was brilliant in 2011 WC (their best batsman even if Dilshan had more aggregate runs) and had an incredible run in 2015 WC (4 consecutive centuries IIRC). Dravid has never been as good as Sanga in ODIs be it at WCs or any other tournament.

Hard to stay civil against dishonest arguments.

With the stats he is. With eyes he's not. Sanga has never looked good to me. Much prefer Jayawardene with the eye test..

What you disagree with, you call dishonest. Seen that in a few drafts with you.

It's quite simple, I believe my bowlers are easily better, and my batsmen not nearly as bad. The way you right it, it seems my batsmen are a joke. Yet you only lead by one vote. Maybe your the one being dishonest..

Anyway good game either way.. I think you just need to pipe down. Never enjoy draft threads with you, which is a shame. Good luck if you advance.

Good to see some bite in a cricket draft game.

Shame there is such a small turnout for a semi.

I think both teams are great but marginally went with Crappy as he has Viv who slightly swings it for me. Open to change my mind though.

You are the one who degarded the discussion by taking so much umbrage at my argument that bar Yuvi none of your batsmen would get into my team. Then proceeded to use different paramters to judge different batsmen against each other. I mean if you going by just the averages then Brendan Taylor is a better batsman than Bevan too. I called your arguments dishonest because I can't fathom anyone wanting to have Dilshan in their side over Jayasuriya not only in context of this draft but any ODI one. Same for Morkel over Donald.

Your side looks good on paper but if we go by the spirit of this draft then only true match winner is Yuvi and in some aspect Imran due to his overall influence on Pak's 92 win. In my team I have 3 folks (Crowe, Starc, Jayasuriya) who won man of the tournament award in a WC with 2 being the most important member of their team's WC win. Viv is not even amongst this 3 and the best batsman in this draft after Sachin. Then there are Ganguly and Sanga who have been consistent throughout. Sanga's WC record is even better and his over all ICC average is only brought down by below par record in ICC Champions trophy.

It's getting spicy :). I prefer NM's bowling, I prefer Crappy's batting, but in the parameters of the draft I must say I buy Crappy's argument that he has more demonstrable ICC match-winning potential.

It's obvious that by the SF stage you're likely to have two teams of ridiculous quality, but it's in the finer details of standout performances in big ICC games that Crappy takes this one for me.

NMs bowling is awesome but odi is batsmen’s game.Just noted that NMs 3 infielders Dilshan/Yuvaraj/Gibbs will be at he top of the game with in the circle.Since this being ICC specific draft I don’t remember any special knock from Bevan other than one innings in2003 also I don’t rate B.Taylor much.
Batting I would give it to crappy especially those middle order and with Viv this swings my vote in favour of crappy he makes all the difference, his batting makes lot of difference who is also an top class fielder.Sorry NM.
