Now that it would seem Martial wants out, and given that we need a right winger in the summer, could a possible swap deal between Martial and Perišić be beneficial for all parties?

On one hand Martial is younger and with bags of potential, but on the other hand we need probably 4 players in the summer (arguably 5 if you want a CB too; since we need two fullbacks, a central midfielder and a right winger) and in a World Cup year, this will be extra tough.

Should we look into this? We floated the idea of Willian + cash to Chelsea, could we do the same to Inter? Would they pay? Could they afford to pay if they want to?

My understanding is that he plays wide left which could be a problem, but given that he is very much two-footed and good at crossing he could be used to keep width on the right while Sanchez cuts in on the left. Mourinho did the same with Chelsea, using Hazard to come inside while Willian stays wide; could he be planning to use the same strategy for us? Willian was given a great deal of defensive responsibility, and Perišić does the same for Inter, so it could make sense for Mourinho to identify similarities between the two.

Buy a 29 year old left-winger and play him on the right. Sounds like something we would do.

I’ll go with the same answer I went last summer window - no. But if mourinho wants it done, it’ll get done this summer as it seems that martial wants out. Yet we still need a RW

CalcioMercato is a terrible source, for what it's worth.

Just depressing.

We seem intent on increasing the average age of our squad

Has he signed then?
Nope, just commenting on the article, which some have already pointed out has a dubious source, so let me crawl back into my hole. Although, some of the other players we've been linked with would do the same e.g. Willian.

Dodgy source, but knowing Jose I wouldn't be surprised if this happens. He views missing out on Perisic as having destabilized his project for this year.

I was heavily against signing Perišić last summer because I wanted Griezmann above all else but this time around I would probably take him for a reasonable fee. I see him as a cog in the machine, helping the team do what it needs to do without being standout world class. You need players to be those gears so that the top class players can shine. I would think Perišić would also do well at Atletico Madrid too.

or..... we could get another 29 year old left winger and have him compete with all the left wingers we already possess... Sounds like deja vu.

Personally, I don't want 29 year old average players here.

1. Give Fellaini a new contract
2. Sell Martial
3. Sign Perisic
4. Win everything in style

Sounds similar to Benitez plan at Liverpool
1. Keane up front
2. Sell Alonso
3. Buy Barry, play him on the left
4. Barry feeds Keane
5. Win.
6. Profit.

why would you even take time reacting on a shitty journalist source?

Perisic is a good player but the ship has sailed, shame because in form he could be played on a wing and off form I could see him as a successor to Valencia/Young being a a great fullback if Mourinho decided to convert him, you'd save space for one more player in the squad

We already got Sanchez who plays in that position though.

Permanent switch to 3-5-2 then? Coz he’ll have a tough time fitting Perisic, Sanchez and Pogba into any other formation - and we’d still need a top RW.

Doubt it’ll happen though. Probably inter, if anyone, trying to lure us into a deal for one of our talented youngsters.

I think the left side is covered now with Sanchez. Mourinho will try for a specialist RW. He likes Willian so a deal could be done with Martial going the other way.

I don't even watch Inter or know what Perisic is like but I fcuking hate him now just for this constant link. Also because he's continually described as a functional winger who can fill-in as a wing-back (feck that).

The thoughts of potentially watching a United starting 11 next year with Valencia, Young, Rojo, Smalling, Fellaini, Lingard, Mata and Perisic in it, makes me very sad. Therefore I'm going to stop thinking about it and have some ice cream.
