I'd change Martial from a possibly into a probably. He's about as likely as the other four names mentioned not to make it.

Johnstone's still a United player.

Surely you'd take Martial as backup?
Nah. He's barely played this past month and France have quite a few attackers: Giroud, Griezmann, Mbappe, Dembele, Coman (currently injured), Fekir, Lacazette, Thauvin off the top of my head.

Smalling
Mata
Herrera
Are the ones that will be left out.

Martial might make a preliminary squad but in danger of not making the final squad. Or maybe they might put him on standby or something.

Bailly, Sanchez, Valencia, Blind, Darmian not going because their countries never qualified.

Wouldn't it just be easier to do a who is going thread than listing all the ones who won't?

Wasn't there another thread last week about only DDG and Pogba representing United at the WC? Forgot about Lindelof; he probably makes the Swedish team.

Smalling and Shaw confirmed not to be on the plane. Young, Lingard, Rashford and Jones all are

Only 5 you could call first teamers in all of these. But how many of these 5 will be regulars or here next season.

Valencia
Bailly
Smalling
Herrera
Sanchez

I"m absolutely delighted that Sanchez isn't going to the WC.A nice rest this summer and a good preseason should see him in top top shape come august...

It's actually the reason why I created a thread, a reference point as to who will have a summer break, who will be in the tour and who should be fit and firing for the start of the season

Don't worry, all English players will pack their bag after 3 weeks. Squad should be fresh by July.

Without wanting to turn this into another 'Jose thread' - does it not prove Jose is spot-on with his criticisms of our squad when you consider the players we have that are eligible and who's countries are competing but who still haven't been selected?

For example, I keep being told our attack is great and 'if only Jose would let it off the leash we would win every game 18-0"....doesn't really stand up does it when you think Martial probably won't even go, Rashford and Lingard will probably be subs in a dreadful England side, Mata is nowhere near the Spanish squad....

I could go on, Smalling....Shaw.....Herrera....none of them even close

No. Because they used to be playing for their countries. Some of them were before Mourinho came in. So why would it show that they arent good players? It shows that under Mourinho they havent looked as good as they can be and have been in the past.

And one more thing it might show is that those national teams dont want to play like Mourinho's United

Or you could turn that round and say if Mourinho had spent less time criticising his players and a bit more time motivating them(that's his job afterall)maybe a few more of them would be going to the World Cup.

The total absence of Smalling from even the standby list for the England squad is baffling.
