My gaffer just come into work and said that on the "betting circle", his odds slashed very big on him joining us.

We get rid off DDG and get Bale and another from Madrid?

It's inevitable he will go there soon. I'd just bite the bullet and try to cherry pick from Madrid and let's win the league.

Hes not good enough for us. Watched Everton plenty last season to attest that. Nothing in this, Jose has already said that DDG is not going anywhere this Summer.

Even if he was, this man should be near the bottom of our replacement list. Romero is arguably better imo.

Butland's the better keeper, whatever Southgate thinks. and would be cheaper. I agree that at some stage DDG will go to Madrid

He's arguably not even good enough for Everton's level, no way he'd be anywhere near a shortlist to replace DDG if he finally left for madrid.

If I’m looking at worst case scenario and De Gea DID want to leave for Real and was adamant on it then I’d tell Real it would be for Bale with them also paying some money then even though it’s a downgrade (everyone is compared to De Gea though) I’d go for Courtois as he’s got a year left on his contract and I think is gettable.

I simply HATE the idea of us without De Gea and seeing as Butland is by far the better keeper I HATE the idea of Pickford for us even more BUT if we went into next season with Courtois, Dalot, Alderweireld, Smalling, Sandro, Fred, Matic, Pogba, Bale, Lukaku, Sanchez with Romero, Valencia, Jones, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Shaw, Young, Herrera, Fosu-Mensah, Pereira, McTominay, Lingard, Mata, Martial and Rashford as back up I’d very content.

I actually think he's better than some of the above posters are giving him credit for, but if we got him as a replacement for De Gea I'd be very dispapointed.

I'd rather Romero than Pickford.

It’s not inevitable, not by a long way.

I would sooner have Dean Henderson or Pereira as back up to Romero to be honest.

Anytime I've seen him his distribution has looked poor.
Like others have said, I'd go with Romero ahead of him.

Would be a very poor argument I think. He’s a good keeper, but a bit short of our level I think.

He was sensational at Sunderland.

For now perhaps, the difference is Pickford will keep improving.

No guarantee he'll ever be as good as Romero, and our defense would need upgraded if we got a weaker keeper.

Rather stick with Romero or promote either of the young uns like Henderson and Pereira. I think United have another one as well, the one from Czech? Or maybe they didnt buy him?

With each year that passes where he doesn't go to Madrid, the less 'inevitable' it becomes, IMO. He could have left there for free at the end of 15/16 if he sat and waited 8 months (no chance LvG would have benched him all year) but he signed a 5 year deal instead, which involved no release clause for RM. Madrid only bid for him the day before deadline day that window, after not moving all summer. I just don't think Madrid wants him that badly, nor is DDG that desperate to go. He's still here and he has said he is happy here.

If DDG was being shipped out tomorrow, I'd doubt Pickford would be on the club's top 10 list of potential replacements. He might improve more in the coming years, but right now he's nowhere near good enough. He's the weakest GK in the England squad IMO. I'd even have Heaton over him. He looks reasonable with the ball at his feet though, and that seems to have become more important than actual goalkeeping now, somehow.

If De Gea leaves Romero should be #1 he’s good enough.

Very odd.
I saw him play for Everton against us. I think it was last season at OT. The guy put in probably the worst GK performances I have ever seen at OT. He made not a single save. Basically, as long as we put a shot on target, it went in.
I realise that some of you may like an English GK, but you can't replace DDG (best GK in the World), with a GK, who seemed to crumble under the pressure at OT.

In any case, I think that this is a ridiculous rumour and probably made up.

Pickford will need to improve beyond recognition to get anywhere near our first team.

"a bit short"? He is far far short.
Sunderland is his level, ie. battling relegation.

Even if he was, this man should be near the bottom of our replacement list. Romero is arguably better imo.
There is no argument mate, Romero is better than Pickford.

Sensational is way overselling him. Keepers that play for teams that face a lot of shots always tend to get way overrated, see Mignolet at Sunderland, Heaton/Pope at Burnley.

Nowhere near De Gea's level, hope we don't buy him but he's being severely underrated here.

Not really. The logic is far simpler than that. Keepers who make a lot of saves, especially good ones, tend to be highly rated. If those saves are extracted and out on a title-winning keeper, the keeper would be rated even higher.

Heaton and Pope, for instance, don’t face a massive amount of shots per se, with Burnley being a very good defensive team. The simple fact is, they save a lot of shots. Unlike Claudio Bravo, who played for a better team but was criticised for NOT making saves. Ben Foster went down without receiving huge praise as his goalkeeping wasn’t as impressive as Pickford’s.

Although I don't think this is true, if it did happen, i'd rather we gave Romero the chance for a season while Henderson is loaned out then bring him as understudy/competition. Henderson and Pereira as no1/no2 would be good for us...

Think Butland is the better keeper. A bit like Romero, nothing flashy like Pickford and the City keeper I cant recall the name at the moment.
