pretty sure mourinho even made a comment about his desire to play. but keep up believing the sob story
He didn't question his desire. If you read the article and the interview Lukaku gave after the final, or even any interview he has given in fact, you would know that he comes across as a very straightforward guy. He felt he wasn't doing well in training and had a honest conversation with his manager about it. I don't see a lot wrong in that really. It's not the first time it has happened in the history of the sport, and it will definitely not be the last.

Erm, just so I am clear. You are not ready to listen to what a player has to say, but much rather see how he performs on the pitch? At the same time, you hang onto each and every word of the manager regardless of the so called manager having a history of not being completely honest under public scrutiny, all the while probably ignoring he probably manages on the field (A little bit of a hyperbole here, but considering, it's the caf I wouldn't be surprised if true)? Good to know that I have wasted unnecessary effort in have a 'conversation' about this.

Look, I really don't want to derail the thread and take it in another direction. But if you wish to discuss this more, feel free to PM :)

But ideally yes, I feel he does, although I am not a body language expert.

What an article - respect is not even enough!
All the people saying "he hasn't got the hunger to make it in a top-team" must feel ashamed now. I've always liked him since he was that kid from Anderlecht, have seen him grow to the player & person he is today and really hope to see him smashing even more critics.

Come on Rom, keep going!!

I come from the De Gea thread to this one and you're here posting absolute nonsense again. Why not take a break and visit another website?

away and stop talking nonsense. go watch a young Rooney and a tevez when they were here they played football like it was a cup final, lukaku wont even chase things down half the time. hes a lazy player like loads of people were saying majority of the time on this forum now its come out he had a hard upbringing hes the shinning light of the club.

The last bit about wishing he could have one more phone call with his grandfather to let him know that things were better now, that one really resonated with me (for personal reasons).

Regardless of your thoughts on his quality as a player, he’s the kind of character that it’s impossible to not like, when you read stories like this. He’s the kind of person you really want to succeed and make it at your club.

so for telling my opinion then its horrible because you dont like it ?
Your opinion is horrible because it makes no fecking sense. Why was Lukaku playing as a right winger and tracking back to help the right back throughout the season but apparently couldn't be bothered in a cup final.

Moreover, why would the injury be an excuse when Mourinho plays him whenever he's fit.

He had an injury and wasn't match ready, so he came off the bench as a last resort.

 This thread is why I love RedCafe.

An incredibly deep and rare article posted, leading me to spend about a half hour on the other similar articles and videos on the same website, I then come back to this page to post my thoughts on the topic only to find myself embroiled in another thread where someone insists that Lukaku probably didn’t stay at Everton because of voodoo and a passionate Icelander intensely defending the local influence of Coca-Cola compared to Pepsi.

There’s nothing quite like the Caf.
Correct. Let's get back to Icelandic surnames. I drink both Pepsi and Coca Cola. Like them both.

Brilliant article. Very inspiring.

Although I take such articles with a pinch of salt. To say he plays every match as it was final is a stretch. But then it is his opinion. Even Jose believes he got his managing absolutely spot on in every match.

Wow, that's a great article, I'm showing that to my son. He needs the same hunger in his game and life that Rom has.
Love that guy.

I fell he was one of the few guys who really give it all and play for the club

I hope he keeps developing here and helps us win the title

Wow. Refreshing, raw and powerful read.

Really hope he becomes a legend with us. FWIW, he has on my ongoing FM game; his goal tallies in the last four seasons: 65, 58, 68 and 62.

The way other coaches and players talk about his attitude should tell you about his character and desire. Hopefully Lukaku, Sanchez, De Gea and Matic really rub off on the other lads and we can sign another character or two of that ilk. It's clear our team lacked real leadership and passionate players of quality in recent years.

Lukaku is a credit to the game really. Really want to see him become a great player for us for years to come. Same for Pogba.

He seems like a genuinely friendly and humble guy, a gentle giant. Hope he'll keep lighting up Russia.
