He has been one of City's best buys in the past years. Reliable, relatively injury-free, does his job, and just an allround good CM with both defensive/offensive qualities.

Also a dirty snide. But yes overall been a good signing for them.

He is the only midfielder of the team, that can play as dm. That makes him very valuable for city. He is a bit like casemiro for Real or matic for united. Those players add balance to the team that ball-playing CMs (like kroos, toure, Silva, kdb, modric, pogba) don't provide on their own.

Individually fernandinho is a very versatile player, because he is not an out-out DM. He deserves praise, but there are various players out there on his level.

One of those players like Alonso or Casemiro who seem to get away with murder before they finally get booked.

Great player for City tho, I agree.

He's a solid player. Not amazing but he fits the sitting role of their midfield trio perfectly.

Everywhere on the pitch. Delph has been surprisingly decent as well.

Why wouldn't a football fan admire top players? :smirk:

It's certainly become Bluecafe this season. Think we need a City sub-forum so the eulogising can be kept to its own place.

Fernandinho has been very good since he joined.
He’s improved further with pep.

Sadly he’s going to be a big miss when he finishes /retires.

Presumably we have a replacement lined up already.
Excellent player but also one who is an easier player replace than say, Silva, because his skillset isn’t as hard to replicate. I think pep will change tac slightly and go to someone like Weigl next summer, since we lack depth there, and Fernandinho will become a squad player.

Has been a very good buy, been to City what Makelele was to the Galacticos the glue that holds it all together

I see what you've done there.

Think his legs might be going. Jorginho will probably be first choice before too long.

Different kind of player though, but St.Pep usually makes it work in his system no matter what. He even somehow managed to camouflage Otamendi as a decent CB.

Shocking performance. Cost Brazil a lot. They are a different team with Casemiro.

And make Jesus seem like a decent striker at times. This World Cup actually shows that Pep is a very good manager

The amount of space he allowed De Bruyne to work in was criminal. Casemiro is far better at positional awareness and keeping track of players moving through zones.

Maybe the City players are just knackered after a long season. None of them have been that good. Most teams play a very different system and that probably doesn't help either.

Don't think he was as bad as many are making out, I'd say a 4/10 performance tonight. Comparisons to Casemiro are like apples and oranges, one is the best DM in the world and in his prime, the other is 33 and more a box to box midfielder, he doesn't really play deep covering the back 4 for City as he plays in midfield and chases things down when the front 5 miss the press.

Brazil's worst player tonight (but I'd say Paulinho runs him close, Jesus not a huge amount better) but he literally had zero help on those counters first half. 2 of KDB, Lukaku and Hazard were dropping deep and he had no clue/couldn't mark both.

He's a good player (probably my fave City players) but does seem to shit the bed for Brazil. Hazard had him on toast today but Hazard and Lukaku are probably front runners for PotT.

Yes, but Casemiro is also the best DM in the world currently. No reason a 33 year old Fernandinho should come close to him.
Casemiro is still underrated. I think he is on par with Busquets as the best DM in the world.

Casemiro is not underrated. He is pretty widely considered the best DM in the world. Biscuits was better during his prime of course, but not anymore.

People often talk about Real having the best midfield in the world with Kroos and Modric. Casemiro should be mentioned in the same breath. He is just less eye-catching because of a different role.

Busquets is still only 30 years old btw. No reason to not be in your prime as a DM at that age.

Didn't look like the same player than beasted the entire league last season. Had no idea where De Bruyne was throughout the game.

His 2nd half of the last season was not as good as his very good first half. Usually when City gave away stupid goals it was because of poor passing from him or Otamendi under pressure. Other players rarely failed.

I think they would've lost with Casemiro anyway.
