Been here for 4 seasons and he's played a total of 4669 minutes for United, equivalent to 52 games. Fecking injuries.

He'll be the main LB backup most likely, and I really really do hope he'll finally step it up and earn a first team spot.

Problem here is that his contract is running out, he needs to pull his finger to get a new contract or good move next summer. Sorry but I can’t help but be cynical about his attitude long term.

That's literally the same bullshit they pulled last season. If he put as much time and effort into staying fit as his agents put into making up this stuff, he'd actually be the fittest guy at the club.

His fitness is only half the issue. The other half is that even when he has had a run of games, he doesn't look all that impressive (or in other words, pretty average).

Luke Shaw has been topping fitness tests for ages, but you can do great at fitness tests yet not be fit during the season.

For example when Luke Shaw was recovering from his leg break, he was in good shape. Yet he has gotten as chunky as he has ever been while being fit.

He looks like a textbook yoyo dieter. Can have a dad bod at the beginning of the year and have an athletes body 6 months later. That eventually comes with it problems of maintaining fitness levels, as you are constantly changing your diet and exercise program.

Pretty sure I have read this report of him topping fitness tests about 10 times or though during his stint here.

Only the pitch will be the place to evaluate this.

If hey gets fit, gets a run of games, that's our LB solved.

He has the talent, hopefully his attitude is there and Jose shows a bit of coaching ability and shows some faith.

Think of it this way - with Shaw fit and firing and playing to his potential - No LB signing required. Puts us in a better position to get a top tier RW or CB..........

Manchester united should be the ideal club for a home grown player to learn his trade and flourish - Shaw's had a rough few years but its make or break for him. Hope he's given a chance

Seems to be the usual story. I have no trouble believing he has come back fitter than the others, but the others will all improve through pre season at a rapid rate and be fully fit by the start of the season, and maintain it through the year. Will Luke? Experience suggests not.

I think he has a long way to go in his offensive side of the game. He cannot cross for shit.

People saying they hear this every season, they're talking out their arse. Last season he was on crutches, the season before that he was still out from the leg break, his last proper preseason he looked a player in his prime and one of the best fullbacks in the league.

Am I the only one who can’t remember shaw playing badly in any game let season? It seemed to my eyes whenever Shaw played he offered a much more promising outlet down the left than Young.

When Young got his stupid red card Shaw and Martial struck up a brief and exciting looking partnership before Mourinho dropped Shaw and bought Alexis.

I just think Mourinho has a bee in his bonnet with Shaw and he could be our man of the match and still get dropped he next game. Then we all hear the press conferences and read the papers and that becomes the narrative.

Though fitness is great thing to have, what is more important is whether he can keep it all season and also impress the manager with actual football.

Shaws supposed to be an arm round the shoulder type player. He’s also supposed to be very immature. Mourinho doesn’t like these types of characters.

If you think running forward with the ball equates to great performance, then maybe. Anyways the sample size is too small. He could not give Jose what he was looking for and went out of the team soon

He got 2 MOTM appearances in that stint Young was suspended, he still got dropped when Young returned though. Pretty soul destroying if you ask me, no wonder Shaw gave up trying.

Probably explains his awful record with nurturing young talent that aren't fine tuned to his demands.

His contract is up at the end of the season so this is his last chance to make it at united. He is easily replaceable right now but has the potential to make that position his own for club and country if he can push himself. Mourinho gives him a hard time but he must see something there to give him this last chance and I'm glad he has, good luck to him.

Apparently he was in Pochs office nearly every day to get encouragement. Maybe that’s why Poch is so good at bringing young players through.
To be the very best in man management you have to be flexible and have different approaches to different types of personalities. Mourinho has already said he struggles with this which explains a lot. It was also one of Fergie's biggest strengths, this again explains a lot when you look at his track record with young talent.

Finished top in some fitness tests.
what a surprise when he started his training few weeks back to be fit, he may have topped some stamina and endurance tests but still be average being too fat in some other. Players are after their holiday so this is no surprise anyway

I know... Hence why I mentioned "last season" not "last pre-season". The articles appeared around November claiming he was the fittest guy in our squad, think they claimed Valencia was around the same.

Bewlocks.
Come Sept 1st he'll be 15st and will have made 2 x sub appearances, with Jose deciding it was a mistake to keep him around considering he'll be going for free the next summer.
Absolutely no faith in, or time for, this bloke I'm sorry. Fool me once....

Looks heavy: gets slaughtered. Looks and performs like an elite athlete: still gets slaughtered.

His spell over Xmas/New Years showed he’s got the ability to warrant the leftback slot, but like Martial and even Pogba, he requires a tailored approach to man-managing the maximum out of him, so Mourinho can’t be arsed with him.

It seems like the board is keen for him to utilise what he has rather than binning an abundance of talent, when Jose is approaching the time in his contract where he implodes; I imagine Shaw’s determination to stay and fight is in part based on him not expecting Mourinho to be at United much longer anyway.

If we failed to get Sandro then this guy must deliver, we can't keep using Ashley Young as Main left back for whole season. It's make it or break it for him.

Would be bigger than any signing we'll make this summer if he can hit the ground running. Need a player who wants to stretch the wide areas more than anything else.

I like Young, I'm less keen on Valencia, so Young be freed up for the right side would be a nice possibility.

Ashley Young's habit of cutting back, going central, etc really hampers our play on the left wing.

Hopefully Shaw can get going and provide good support for whoever starts on the LW for us this coming season.

I still have faith here, and if we don’t sign a LB, I hope he’s created a situation where Young doesn’t get back in when he returns. It will also create the added benefit of Dalot being played in his proper position as a fecking right-back!
