15mnths for the Ox - a season & 2 summers. And the described state of his leg doesn't sound encouraging either.

This is arguably the best team they've had going into the start of a season since that 08/09 team. I still don't think they'll win it because its them; but have to say I'm a little anxious.

Keita, Fabinho, Shaquiri, Alisson and probably Fekir.

That is a great transfer window for any team.
It would only be a great window if a year from now they have something to show for it. If they wind up finishing 4th again and not winning the CL then they would've spent all that money for feck all.

They've done some excellent business. Not sure if they will pip City to the title, but they should be second with the team they've got.

Now that Alisson is close, we might actually look good.
GK: Alisson / Karius
LB: Robertson / Moreno
CB: VvD,Lovren / Matip,Gomez
RB: TAA / Clyne
DM: Fabinho / Henderson
CM: Keita,Lallana / Milner,Wijnaldum
RW: Salah / Shaqiri
ST: Firmino / Sturridge (?) / Solanke
LW: Mane / Woodburn (?)

Gutted for Ox, he has been very good for us before the injury and would have took the second CM spot from any of Lallana/Wijnaldum/Milner.
Hopefully Mignolet, Ings, Origi and Grujic will be sold.

If we land Fekir as well, we may play 4-2-3-1 with him under Firmino, or he can play on Firmino's position.

All of the guys are of good age as well, and we seem to extend the contracts in time.

If you look at the squad, our 2nd team is decent, we have a healthy squad (except maybe LW).

So, at the moment, I think it's fair to expect result, e.g a title run with City and some trophy even if it's WhateverItsCalled Cup.

But let's see, after the Fekir deal I'm waiting for an official announcement, so it can all become doom and gloom again in a brink of an eye.

Whoa 15 months for Ox is just insane.

Think their team is better than the 08/09 team, although they had more stars, but also a lot of weak links.

Strong looking side, very good transfers on paper and had really hoped Karius would stay no1. Hopefully there will be an end to Liverpool supporters complaining about net-spend for a while at least.

Reina; Arbeloa, Carragher, Hyypia, Aurelio; Mascherano, Alonso, Kuyt, Gerrard, Riera/Benayoun; Torres

Vs

Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Keita, Fekir(?)/Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane

I’d still say 08/09 is better based on the core of the side. We finished on 86 points in 08/09 and lost two games all season.

So, Liverpool's spending is:

Naby Keïta 60,00 mio. €
Fabinho 45,00 mio. €
Xherdan Shaqiri 15,00 mio. €
And now Alisson for 75 mio. €

So they're at 195M€ ... They're not joking around this year. Klopp better deliver. if they get Fekir, they would smash the 250M€ bar.

We spent 59M€ for Fred and 22M€ for Dalot for a total of 81M€. Pretty sure that we won't stop here.

Next year is going to be tight, Liverpool looks like challenging for the title with us and city.

In a world of my own. People know me here.
We finished 19 points away from the team above us...because we needed more goals.
Gary Lineker in his one & only season at Everton scored 30 league goals when the Blues finished 2nd with 86 points in 1986. The following season, without him, they won the league with the same amount of points & scored fewer goals. Our main objective next season is to pick up more points against the better sides. Winning 4 or 5 nil against the likes of Swansea & Bournemouth still only gets us 3 points, & it's likely we'll still pick up the majority of our points against those sort of sides next season regardless of how many Salah & co score. The key to us challenging for the title though rests in us increasing our points tally against the other sides with big ambitions. Just 3 from a possible 18 from the 6 games against United, Chelsea, & Spurs. If we don't improve on that in 2018/19, then Salah might score 50 league goals, but 4th will the best we can hope for.

Yea, Mascherano, Alonso, Kuyt, Gerrard, Torres is what made that team good - it's rather bad when you look at the defence, but if you only lost two games all season..

The current one is more all-round I think. Gotta say you've finally have strengthened yourself long-term in areas where needed. Only player I'd look to strengthen would be the world's best defender.. Lovren.

No doubt a great transfer window.

Best transfer window they have had that I can recall, even with the failed Fekir transfer
If Salah has a good season they should challenge for the title and give City a run for their money.

Fair enough. I would say best of luck in achieving that.

Sorry, I meant wouldn't not would.

Great additions so far tbh. It's weird because I feel they can definitely go toe to toe vs City and come out on top when playing against them, however I still feel City are better suited to win PL. But I would definitely favor Liverpool in a cl match up for example.

All this fawning over Liverpool is perfect. Klopp has no option other than to deliver silverware next season. Let's see how he handles the pressure of expectation.

Liverpool are not fecking about. Alisson and Van Dijk at big money will/have solved massive questions in whether they can win the Premier League. Add Fekir, Fabinho and Keita as well as their existing front three led by Salah and they're not far away from City at all. Can't see how with the players we've got at the moment and the man leading them, how we are going to finish in front of them again this season. If we're being honest, they were better than us last season too but God knows how we finished ahead of them.

Unsettled back line, goalkeeper rotation and too many draws is how you finished above us. We also gave up too many points from winning positions. Hopefully some of those things will be eradicated next season.
As with anything though, you solve one problem and something else generally appears

It’s fantastic to only have to worry about City this coming season. I still think they will have to much for us over a 38 game season but I think we will run them close.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves please. There were two other teams better than us last year apart from City, and the transfer window is still open for almost a month. There's no guarantee that each player will immediately adapt to our style of play as well (and a new league for Alisson, Keita and Fabinho). We've done our homework and should be City's closest challengers imo but a lot can still happen. Not to forget that we're missing a very important midfield piece for the entire season and it's even in doubt whether he'll ever return to his former self.

No Fekir it seems.

Damn, I would've expected/hoped that the news about Ox meant that Klopp would push hard for Fékir now, but doesn't seem to be the case. Would that mean Henderson, Wijnaldum or Lallana would still be one of our #1 choice midfield? Don't really like that, Lallana is prone to injuries, Henderson himself as well and it would mean we don't have that much quality left on the bench either.

We've still had an excellent window though.

One team was better than us, United had a great start and then basically stunk the rest of the season out. We dropped many points due to resting players for the latter stages of CL, and having to rely on the likes of Solanke and Ings to cover our forwards. Our midfield depth is much better now also.

If I had to pick between signing Alisson and signing Fekir, I’d pick the former.

We’ve scored plenty of goals over the last six seasons but defending has always been a problem.

Signing Van Dijk and then Alisson seems like a big step towards fixing that issue.

Looks like it's going to be a long season in this place when the season starts. Liverpool will be this season's City with 5 new threads a day every time they win a game.

Sad for the Ox. He was starting to show his potential and this injury happens. If it's as bad as they are reporting there is no way he comes back to 100%. 90% would be great. I work in that field and know the issues plus you can still have the mental issues of trying to take care of that joint (trying too hard and over-exerting the joint with fears of a re-injury etc...).

I think we have improved but I still do not think we have the consistency to beat a healthy, loaded Man City squad over the course of a long season. Don't even know if we sign a CAM as that will help obviously but with so much spent now who knows?
Realistic: 2nd/3rd
Optimistic: 1st
Disappointing: 4th/5th

It will be a great PL season regardless and Man Utd with your style of play will still be challenging. I never count Mourinho out or that style of play. Just hope Abu Dhabi FC get knocked down.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I really think we should have upgraded our supporting forwards. Getting Keita, Fabinho, Shaqiri and Alisson is fantastic, but an injury to Firmino means we have to put out with Ings/Solanke in the starting lineup.

I think Sturridge will be the backup to firmino, sounds like he is staying.

No we won't, we would put Salah up front and play Shaqiri on the right, that's why we bought him.

Chamberlain is out for the season. And even then was never intended as clear 1st choice.

Shaqiri will play from the bench. Is that so puzzling?
Honestly forgot about the ox injury!

Fekir in that midfield looks susceptible to me. An entire midfield of players new to the premier league. High risk move IMo at least with likes of Milner etc you got workrate guaranteed not sure you will get that from that new 3 on paper which imo will compromise the system.

Carragher hypia and arbeloa all class. And that old midfield tri mops the floor with current side too IMo
Torres was possibly best striker in the world at Liverpool during that season

If Chelsea sign Higuain, Golovin, Rugani they could be dangerous under Sarri. Also, if Hazard, Kante, William, Jorginho, etc play at their best, they could compete for the title.
Tottenham have inprived with Pochettino, they have a good defense, a creative midfield and a top striker.

It's going to be an interesting season. I just hope we don't start the season with Valencia and Young as fullbacks and Mata as RW.

Liverpool signed quality players, but I think they need time to click.

If we're not signing Fekir we need someome else because just Shaqiri is not enough depth.
