Hopefully he'll be the surprise package for us this season, his stint at Valencia will have done wonders for him.

Still only 22, I have high hopes for him - and he's a good versatile option to have. Hope he stays patient this time.

I wonder if he shouldn't spend another season at Valencia. He's settled there, and will continue to get a good amount of game time if he goes back. With the signing of Fred and the renewal of Fellaini's contract, he's probably quite far down the pecking order in CM stakes.

He shouldn't of went on loan last season never mind this one.

He was quite far down last season but as injuries and suspensions happen he would of got his chances.

Tbh, I can't see the hype about this player anymore. Good player, but doesn't look like a one in generation talent like some make my believe, just good player that's it.

Did anyone say he was a one in a generation talent?

Don't recall seeing that on here.

I didn't say someone said that though. I said that's what all the hype about him whenever he plays makes me believe. People talk very, very highly about him that I always expects more from him, but he just looks good, nothing more.

Literally a friendly after 3 days of training. Christ.

Does he possess the skill-set to play as our deepest midfielder ? He was ok but I'm not convinced he has the defensive awareness for such a role. His passing was generally safe and unadventurous.

What is this related to my post ?

Surely I'm not evaluating him based on today only. Not to mention, I said he's a good player, just doesn't look like he's worth the hype around him. Decent squad option at the moment, nothing more.

Think that’s where Jose sees him. Last time he was on tour with us he played as a 6 as well.

Pereiras play style reminds me of Modric (not suggesting for a minute he’s anywhere near as good as Modric).

He's a good passer and dribbler, but I think he's still too easy to get past as a #6 at the moment. I feel he's better suited to playing further forward as one of the #8s.

I can assure you no one said that here. He is a good player and first of all a CM ( not a proper number 10 or winger ). In football there is one in generation talent when it comes to Center Mid ( May be expect Verrati recent times ). With time they will learn how to play as a CM. It was the same with Modric , it was the same with Verrati .

Not implying Pereira is as good as either of them and he will never be, but he can be at least half as good as Modric in my opinion.

Pleased with his performance. Would like to see him further up the pitch with someone behind him doing the job he did. As I feel he is far more creative than the others there. Any minutes though are a positive.

I think we were just checking out how he would do in that deep role. He does have good passing ability but lacks the positional awareness. In todays game, maybe he could have been better if he had played in more advanced position. Later in second half, I thought he was in more advanced position and had some impact in our attacking moves.

He played well. I like his technique and decision making. Agree with others that he should be given more freedom to attack, him and Herrera were playing in each other's best positions.

He'll make mistakes that cost us in midfield but it will be because he's trying to take some risks and play incisicely. I like what he brings to the table, but it'll take time for him to develop into a quality CM. Good enough to use for rotation in cup games and get minutes off the bench for now.

Was one of our best players - he retained the ball well and made some good passes forward.

He should be a rotation role for Pogba IMO.

He can play as a deep lying playmaker but he doesn't have the defensive ability to really rely on him playing there IMO, he's better closer to goal where he can dribble and use his balance with quick turns.

Looks good in that video. I have always liked the way he uses his body to feint and deceive which direction the ball is going. In that video he also stops if there is nothing on and turns to find a pass in another direction. Whether he can do that to the pace of the PL is to be seen, but so many of our players last season would just hoof it clear if there was nothing in front of them.

Or play a safe pass back to the CBs or FBs. We need more players that are willing to play in between the lines or capable of spreading play out wide quickly. He shows these qualities in the little I've seen him play at CM and I believe it's why Jose has always played him in a midfield 3 and stated that he played at Valencia in a role that didn't exist for him at United as a wide player. He'll need to be patient, but I do believe he'll get chances this year to prove himself.

His game is Pogba-esque. He is always looking to play it forward quickly and skip the slow buildup, which I like. His touch is good, his passing is crisp and accurate, and his ability to beat players off the dribble is high for a CM. I'd like to see him play Pogba's role in cup games, and rotate in the midfield especially when we play weaker teams and can field a more attacking lineup. I really do believe he could go on to be a very good player, but if he doesn't get regular chances in the next couple of years he'll end up having a very average to below average career.

He’s a good rotation option to have. I’m sure he’ll improve this season as well.
