Very good performance, I wonder how many times we've actually played him as a RWB over his career here? Pretty sure that's the position he came here from Torino.

He was being made a captain to bump up his price.
I'd be pissed if I were him and take every preseason games as if They're WC finals to proof a point.

Wouldn't of even given him game time if were trying to negotiate an exit if I'm honest.

Exactly what I was thinking. Surely if he's definitely leaving those minutes would have been much better going to a youngster to gain experience? Why was he even on tour? Jose makes some absurd decisions sometimes!

Because he's not even come close to agreeing a deal for him to leave? Because deals fall through in football all the time? Because it's realistic that he might still be around at the start of the season because our transfer window closes earlier than other countries?

There you go, gave you three reasons.

I think some might have missed that Darmian might start due to Valencia and Dalot being injured at the beginning of the season. We are also able to sell him after the window closes because the deadline for selling to foreign leagues is later than the PL transfer window.

Still the best crosser on the right we have, often feel like Darmian gets some over the top stick from a lot because they think it’s the cool thing to do. He has had games where he’s been disappointing but he is quite comfortably for me more dangerous than Valencia is on the right and is a better defender all round. Valencia just having the pace and strength over him in one on ones.

Darmian always looks better as a wingback than as a full back. He actually takes the opportunities afforded to him in that position to get forward and provide width. His defending in 1v1 situations never fills me with confidence but I can see why there'd be interest in him from Italian clubs.

He's the worst fullback I've ever seen at United. Worse than Buttner. I'd drive him myself to Italy tomorrow if I could leave him there.

Exactly, I thought he was pretty good last night and definitely a better crosser than Shaw or Valencia. I wouldn't mind keeping him here because I have a feeling Valencia is going down hill fast this season.

Might be a tad hyperbolic but I agree, we've not had a full back as poor as Darmian in years. One good game clouds the judgement, he can't defend or attack and really has no business being here, he doesn't even have any significant physical attributes to fall back on.

It’s not 1 good game tho, it’s based on his time here. Even when he was playing on the left he was putting in better service than Valencia was. When we play as we did last night he is I would say the best at intercepting and breaking up play on the press than Valencia also. His understanding of defending for me is also significantly better than Valencia’s. Yes there are far better RB’s out there in world football but we don’t have them. He’s a good squad option and I’d rather keep him especially if Valencia is going to be injured for the start of the season.

Do think the stick he gets is OTT especially if you think of some of the people we have deployed at RB over the years

He might occasionally put a decent cross in but apart from that occasional cross his crossing is abysmal, at least you'll get a corner out of Valencia's crosses.

The bit in bold: that's your opinion and it's fine but what's the point in understanding the defending if you can't actually implement it? He's consistently and easily beaten any time he's played right back, he was so poor at right back he's been replaced by a 32 year old winger. Any pacy winger can get past him and has been the case since he joined us, he's not a good option to have as he's proven over the last 3 years. If there are teams offering us up to £16m we should bite their hands off.

He's just got nothing about him, no aggression no desire. So many times the ball goes wide and he just casually jogs out to them giving them all the time in the world.

I've never seen Valencia torn to pieces before like Darmian has, and he's been absolutely mauled by league 2 shite many times.

In the League cup against Bristol it was an absolute shit show, he cost us the match.

Valencia might be regressing now but he's still head and shoulders better. I'd rather play Young at RB if Valencia is injured.

I thought he played alright actually, he was quite high up the pitch compared to normal.

He was playing as a wing back so was much higher than usual. I don’t think he is that bad of a player. Just not suited for United though. He will do well in Italy.

Played a good part in the 2 goals but that second half was the Darmian we all know and hate.

Out of position almost every fecking time, letting Madrid youngster running behind his back every time without even trying to stop him. They scored from his side and it was a near miracle they didn't repeat it the second half.

Involved in both our goals, super assist for Sanchez's goal, but some of his defending was unconvincing; I guess he was exhausted.

I think we will try to keep him until the end of August and then sell him when Dalot/Valencia are back.

Yeah you wonder if he's actually our answer to the rw position (only joking of course) I can't believe he's a defender.

Great servant to the club, can't take that away from him; he's being featured to try and attract bids from Italy.

Even with our injuries at RB, Lindelof will likely take his place during the season.

Before we get any false hopes let's not forget he was excellent in his first preseason when we signed him. In other words, performances in preseason friendlies don't mean a thing.

Hopefully Tuanzebe or TFM instead, with Lindelof playing CB if he plays at all (he should be given a chance to start alongside Smalling or Bailly or in a 3 including at least one or more likely both of those two).

Poor lad must feel like an unwanted dog in a shelter at the minute.

All these clubs taking a look and thinking 'nah, not him'.

Started well tbh. Having Bailly next to him helps him out a lot.

It's soul crushing to know that every time a ball is sprayed out right to Darmian that it is coming into a complete dead end. Like what is the point of passing him the ball? He does an automatic pass to the closest CB or does an absurd attempt at a pass down the line. He has absolutely no footballing skills, no desire to dribble and draw pressure to create space around, no real athleticism to take people on. He has a pair of alarming lamb chops and solid form with his Mourinho butt slaps though

I was told that you can't judge players/play style from pre-season. They're only games to get match fit.
