Obviously won’t be an opinion shared by many and there are some clearly debatable choices in there. Matic is obviously better defensively than Andreas but he uses the ball so well and I just love his style as a player.

I also hope for Dalot to come in and hopefully take that RB spot as the season goes on.

Martial over Sanchez is obviously going to probably not happen, but Sanchez really doesn’t have it right now it’s weird. Loses the ball so often and makes really dumb decisions that kill our attacks.

*If they actually play to their ability. If not then there are options in Jones/Lindelôf/Smalling at CB , Herrera/Fred/Mata/Fellaini in MF and Rashford/Lindegard/Mata in attack

IMO, depth is not a problem at all in this squad as we have plenty of options. The "best XI" is nowhere near the best we had, but should still be able to compete for the title of Mou gets them playing well together. Both yesterday and last season we looked comfortable in defense for the most part, what we need to do is sort out out attack and get them to play like a well oiled machine

I'll just copy what I posted from the same thread a day or two ago.

Martial Lukaku Sanchez
Pogba Matic Fred
Young Smalling Bailly Valencia
De Gea

I hope to see this.

1. Sanchez is by far the most likely player in our squad to give us something from the right wing. Any team without him there looks stupid.
2. If Dalot is good then give him games over Valencia asap.
3. If Pereira maintains his pre-season form then give him games so Matic doesn't get run into the ground like last season.

Good enough for top 4 imo.

Young Bailly Lindelof Show

Would like to see Young played RB when he's fully fit, his delivery and general contribution to attacking play is superior to Valencia. Also would like to see Pereira get more game time but Matic still gives us more in terms of defensive contribution and solidity in front of the back 4.

I think Mourinho getting a solid starting 11 could be the most important aspect of our season. Last season there was just a general feeling of fear from the players about their spot, that fear that one mistake/poor performance could have you sitting on the bench for a few weeks. Furthermore, it could be the case that a solid core of 11-14 players always in contention could encourage more competition and a general increase in performance.

It felt like last season there was a lack of committment and real competition within the squad, possibly players feeling they would simply get chances due to other players mistakes. Having that core group competing for places every week is crucial to all top sides, for the players looking to get into the team and also for those holding a position week in week out.

Would probably play Young at RB until we get a good look at Dalot if I’m honest and hopefully Sanchez’s performance yesterday was an anomaly as he was dire. Still only takes 1 second to make something happen and we know he has quality.
Early days but Pereira would be in with a shout to start over Matic for me. Last season Matic started off superbly but by December January he really dropped off. Was slow and ponderous in his decision making and often made the wrong choices so seeing how Pereira played yesterday would be happy to let him continue in that vain. He just added something different to the team.

Leave the right empty and just play 2 LWs and Shaw on the left wing.

Valencia. Bailly. Lindelof, young
Fred. Matic
Pogba
Lingard. Lukaku. Sanchez
Obviously if Sanchez doesn’t improve soon then Martial should replace him

Sanchez obviously need to step up his game, if not Rashford on the left.

For games where we are on the front foot and against a team that has come to defend:
De Gea
Young Bailly Lindelof Shaw
Fred Pereira Pogba
Lingard Lukaku Sanchez

For games where we can expect to be under pressure and need to defend well:
De Gea
Valencia Bailly Smalling Shaw
Fred Matic Pogba
Lingard Lukaku Sanchez

There's no such thing as our best XI since whoever any one selects aren't likely to all be available for any consistent stretch due to injuries, suspensions, loss of form etc.

Not sure it's going to be good enough for top 4 (City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs best XI are better imo) but I agree this is probably our strongest line up on paper, we'll never see it though.

Potential title-winning side. Agree with other posters to give Lukaku a try on the right with Sanchez moving up top. Would improve intricate play around the box and give Lukaku more space to maul defenders.

Martial Lukaku Sanchez
Pogba Fred
Matic
Shaw Lindelöf Bailly Dalot
De Gea

Even if Marital and Sanchez keep playing poorly, both are better than Welbeck 2.0 and Lingard.

Attacking threats on both wings. Lukaku if he can play like he did vs Brazil in the world cup is miles better than anyone we can play on the RW. The front 3 can interchange at will and both fullbacks (hopefully Dalot can take the RB position) are attack minded. Sanchez as striker has less touches and instead focuses on finishing. Martial is our best player at taking on players and dribbling 1 on 1 so he has to be in the best 11 otherwise we lack quality build up.

It's a tough one this, but I'll go with:

----DDG
Valencia/Dalot - Bailly - Lindelöf - Shaw/Young
Fred- Matic - Pogba
Lingard
Lukaku - Sanchez

RB: Depends on how quickly Dalot adapts to the league.
LB: Depends on if Shaw can continue to improve and bomb forward like he did against Leicester
CDM: Matic provides extra defensive cover, but Pereira forward passing and greater mobility may mean that he's the better option against certain teams.
CAM: Mata may be a better creator, but Lingard is quicker and makes better runs. Again depends on the opposition imo.
CF: 2 up front with Lukaku and Sanchez, who I believe is better up front. When Sanchez plays on the left, both him and Pogba seem to take up similar positions. This should help to remedy that.
Formation: I went for a 4-3-1-2, to make better use of Sanchez/Martial/Rashford centrally. Also, factoring in that we don't have any RW's in the squad. This formation will require width and crossing ability from the full backs, so I have high hopes for Dalot on the right side as Valencia is somewhat limited on those fronts.

Agree with this.
4312 formation could get the best of our current players. I would like to try Sanchez behind Martial and Lukaku. If Martial fulfill his potential, he can be an important player for us. Also, I would like to see more of Pereira, even as a No.8 if Matic I going to start as our main CDM.
