    Young Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Pereira
    Fred Pogba
    Lingard Lukaku Sanchez

Expect Martial to come on instead of Rashford this week.

Sneaking suspicion Smalling will play over Lindelof, but I'd like to try and keep the partnership together and see if they can build something.

I'm a little apprehensive but fairly confident we will play Lukaku in this one as Rashford/Martial didn't turn up in this fixture last year. Brighton will be all over us and we will have to ride our luck but I'll go for a 2-1 United win.

Mate, Fellaini is a good player who adds something to teams which very few other players can add.
Moyes, Fellaini and now Jose all rate him highly, as does the Belgium manager. 4 managers cannot all be wrong.
I'm not saying that we should base our team around him, but he is a fantastic option to have, just in case we are deadlocked at 0-0 or 1-1 OR if the opponents are very physical.
The other thing he gives is an all-out effort. Where I've seen Martial and Pogba give sub-par efforts, I have never seen Fellaini do this. He always gets stuck in.
I think you’ve misinterpreted me. I was making the same point as you are.

Rashford was shifted to RW v Leicester, as Mata/Darmian were heavily exposed. This is clearly our weak area and teams will try and exploit it. I have a feeling Rashford will now be given his chance to lock down the RW spot.

    ..............De Gea
    Young - Bailly - Lindelof - Shaw
    ...............Pereira
    ..........Fred ---- Pogba
    Rashford -- Lukaku -- Sanchez

    I like that.

I predict the same. Rashford over Mata or Martial is the only doubt.

    De Gea

    Young
    Bailly
    Lindelof
    Shaw

    Pereira
    Fred
    Pogba

    Sanchez
    Lingard

    Lukaku

I think we should ride with Bailly+Lindelof until they play poorly and same with Shaw. Darmian simply shouldn't be in the team so Young steps in at RB. Midfield was fine so I'd keep it the same. Lukaku has to come in. I'd like to see Martial start but he won't. I love Mata but he probably shouldn't be starting this one (or many other games FWIW).

Think we'll win the game 2-0 with Lukaku and Sanchez on the score sheet.

I'm confident of getting a minimum of a point from Brighton, I'm not against City.
Thats the thing. Loss against city wouldn't be unimaginable since they're a very good side but losing points to these guys gets me worked up.

We're going round in circles here, but surely that explains why the city game is the hardest.

Get what you're saying. Most Irritable is the word i should be aiming for in my original post.

Brighton started the season poorly losing 2 nil to Watford away so this is their first home game and I expect them to be up for it.

We don't really know what to expect of Man Utd. I lie we do.

A boring 1nil will please me combined with some positive returns for the likes of Lukaku and Young.

Not enough of a link between midfield and attack.

Sanchez's passing isn't consistent enough and Rashford's instincts are to get behind the last man rather than between midfield and defence. That's not a Mourinho setup.

One of Lingard or Mata will be on the right if we play a 3 up front.

Torn this weekend. Do I support the team I've followed around the world all my life OR do I side with the team that have just signed Alireza Jahanbakhsh?

    5-2 United, Jahanbakhsh brace.

Fail to score here and I believe it will be the first time since 2005 that we have blanked in three consecutive away league matches.

I have Jahanbakhsh in my draft team purely based on his stats. Do you think he'll do well in the EPL?

I don't see much reason for, nor do I expect to see many changes to the starting XI at all. I haven't heard any news on the potential sale of Darmian for a bit now, I'd expect it to be after this game if it happens. I think he'll start, but Young & Lukaku will probably make it onto the pitch earlier than the usual 20~ minute appearance for players lacking match fitness. I think it'll be more like 30-35 minutes. However, I can see the potential of Lukaku starting as it's an away game and we'd want him more match-ready for Spurs. Unfortunately, I think that would likely mean it's Rashford who is left out. By the looks of things, José wants to limit the amount of late World Cup arrival players who are on the pitch at the same time for now. Rashford and Pogba were both replaced against Leicester, even if the latter was very late on:

    de Gea
    Darmian Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Fred Pereira Pogba
    Mata Lukaku Sanchez
    ---
Grant; Smalling, Young; McTominay, Fellaini; Martial, Rashford
José has gone with Bailly/Lindelof earlier than I thought. Roll with it now, even if I think Smalling is our best, stick with the partnership for a while even if there are some wobbles. Only replace them for lesser games or injuries/suspensions. Jones & Rojo should only make the bench if that's the case, otherwise, there's no need for them to be in the squad. Young is a great bench option as he can play either fullback role. Once Valencia is back, I expect to see him and Shaw start all the important games (if Shaw stays in form) with Young on the bench to replace either when necessary. Again, stick with Pereira and Fred, for now, to see how they do, but expect Matic and Herrera to be knocking on the door after the International break. I'd rather Mata not start, but I get the feeling José is going to try and utilise the guys who didn't play in the World Cup at least until the Spurs game, with the exception of Lukaku/Rashford as they're pretty much required it seems (something isn't right with José & Martial's relationship and it seems as if José is putting across the point that despite him being fresh, he isn't even a requirement. Unfortunately, this could result in him moving on but I am hopeful he has a change of attitude and just works harder because that's what we need this season).

I keep saying it, but if we can get through these first four games and take maximum points, regardless of how we do it, we'll put ourselves in with a big chance of being somewhat successful. These four weeks will be some of the hardest and it won't be until the Watford game (after the internationals) that we could have a fully fit squad with no question marks over who is actually staying. Reckon we'll win this one, but Spurs and Burnley are games I'd lean more towards us drawing unless we really ramp it up and Lukaku hits the ground running this weekend.

This is quite telling really, how far we've regressed. Not many people are confident we can beat Brighton away. However If it was City or Liverpool, the majority consensus would be a a huge win for either of those teams.

We currently feel a bit like we did between 2004-06.

Still capable of putting a run together and beating most teams but completely vulnerable to a slightly iffy start against a promoted team or a relegation struggler and then completely capitulating when the crowd gets behind them.

    We're weak as feck mentally.

I cannot wait for this. All negativity aside, it's the first away of the season, on a sunny August weekend in Brighton. Should be a fantastic day out

Brighton were the only team that couldn't even muster 1 shot on target.....against WATFORD :houllier:

If we go 1-0 up and then sit back, god help us
Against us, Brighton will play like Real Madrid.
Last year, when we played against relegation fodder, the big accusation was that our band of highly paid superstars could not be bothered to put in a good performance as it was beneath them.
I wonder if this will continue this season.

Somehow I think City will feature here

Our problems towards the end of last season were the minnows, who our superstars couldn't get themselves motivated for. Against the top teams, they came out all gunz blazing!!!
As for MCFC - we'll spank them

As someone who's actually been paying attention to Brighton, everyone please calm down. Even away, this is a significantly easier game than Leicester.

Anyone else genuinely excited to see Paul, Andreas and Fred playing together again.

I haven’t been this excited about our midfield since the fabled ando-clev axis was first trialed
Yes, and let's hope it doesn't go the same way.

It's a shame Andreas will be dropping out when Matic is back up to speed, I hope he still gets plenty of chances this year.

They are fecking shit, if half our team show up we will beat them. Brighton are the worst side I've seen live, they are going down this year. If Rom plays we will destroy them, comfortable 2.0 win to United.
