I trust Di Marzio and Simon Stone more than this hack, both have categorically stated that neither Pogba or Martial are for sale.

Jose mentioned literally yesterday that Martial will start the season as one of the players in front 3, what more do people want to believe?

All - please give me your opinion on the Thiago Alacantra rumours...

If he was to sign, do you feel he would fit within our midfield now of what I assume is going to be;

Pogba x Matic x Fred

Would we play with 4 in the middle? Would he replace someone?

I'm not getting caught up on the rumours, just given that we have signed Fred, would there realistically be a place for him in the starting XI without Fred becoming just a rotational player?
This is the Pogba thread, keep on topic please.

I must say it's nice read and feel the fear from United fans of possibility of losing their star. For years Liverpool have been going through the panic and anger and confusion you guys have now.

To me this whole Pobga rumor is firmly in "please let it happen God" so basically zero chance of it happening.

What you as fans fail to grasp in my opinion is that Pobga represents United's ambition no matter how he plays. He together with DDG are the star power in your squad. Sanchez needs to prove his worth to have the same weight. In simplistic terms Pobga = United's pulling power. Especially since no recent United incomer says he's looking forward to play for Mou. Mou's pull as a manager is waning the more and more he moans and bitches and rips onto his players. Sure they pay lip service to that but honestly how many United players have come forward singing Mou's praises lately? I argue that Pobga is more and more the main reason to come to United. That and the huge wages. Players usually want to come for only 2 reasons: They like it there - Are part of something exciting OR shitload of money. United is less of former and more of latter nowadays. Especially if the star player and manager are not the bff.

In this day and age where players are more and more connected who do you think they will call if offered a new job somewhere? Rhetorical question. Their pals and buddies in the said clubs. "So Paul, how is thing at OT? What about the manager?" And what do you think Pobga answers? Contrast that to Alisson sounding out to Firmino and Salah. And other Pool players saying the same. Players have their own grape-vine like everyone else. Great places to work and such...Current star players are the best recruiters. Now France being the cornucopia of talent Pobga is worth doubly the 100m or more in that sense of luring talent to the club. Fabinho the other day half jokingly had urged Mbappe to come to Liverpool.

Mou's only real pull is that he is a winner and he delivers results. But he seriously is not making his players happy especially certain Paul. And if things go like this United must get rid of Mou asap and get someone who can excite and sell a vision and get everyone worked up about being a United player and a fan once more. Or be in risk of United becoming more and more Liverpool of past years. "A great club with magnificent history and SAF and the glorious stuff they did yester-year...."
So there is a lot more riding on the outcome than just a boatload of money.

You may just write this off as rubbish. So full of shit etc but think about it a minute.

We certainly as a Liverpool have been there. Always hoping and then dissappointment.

Just taking a quick read of redcafe and it's mostly doom and gloom and denial. Not a happy vibe at all.

Not transfer tweet but Howson being saying on his transfer review that Pogba 80% to go to Barca. He says that people from inside the club have told him, he rarely says transfer stuff and looks worried? Could be utter crap and probably is but he rarely says things about transfer stuff from inside the club. It would tie in with these strange stories of him going back to Juve and offered to City earlier in the year. I doubt a deal like this could happen so late on in the window without the . Anyway just saying, oh and don't shoot the messenger. Not that I believe it but wouldn't 100% rule it out.
I'd rule it out this year, further down the line who knows.

I'm a huge fan of Thiago. He can play anywhere in midfield. I think he would make a phenomenal No. 10 as well. I think he could play as a No. 6, 8 & 10. Pogba and Thiago as No. 8s and Fred could play No. 6. That would make us really dynamic.

I am not for Pogba being made captain, but I understand the debate around the topic, seems fair to me. The reason I'm not for him being captain is because I want the captain to be someone who of course has the talent to be a regular in the first team but also sees himself as happily staying at the club assuming we are competitive. So far I believe Pogba will want to move the Barca or Real at some point plus he has Raiola as an agent who will go around every summer putting his player in the shop window to at worst increase his contract, that makes Pogba ineligible for the role in my eyes.
If handing him the captaincy changes all that, then I can get down with the idea. Barring Juve or PSG, I don't see him ever being given the captaincy at Real, Barca or Bayern.

I disagree with your assessment of his world cup performances, as in you are a bit too harsh. Coming up spades versus a rather good and combative Croatian side comprising Modric and Rakitic in a world cup final is not a feat to be scoffed at.
As someone mentioned ahead, there is no one in his age bracket and in his position that brings the variety of qualities he possesses on the ball to the table. His issues are linked to a lack of maturity, but he has made quite a few big finals now, there is no reason not to believe that those experiences won't help him figure himself-out and become the consistent midfield general he has the potential to.
I didn’t mean to sound harsh about his performances. I put him in my team of the tournament and thought he had some very good games, and good second half in the final. I like Pogba, I hope he stays and leads our tea, for years and wins everything at the club. But I don’t think his tournament should necessarily be seen as a turning point we’ve seen him perform highly regularly only to be anonymous a week later. Also I am exhausted by the wantaway stories at united. Martial, Pogba, etc. All press lies aside, if a player wants away, sell them. That would personally be my policy

Jose haven't earned enough credit to decide future of our Marquee signing if we don't want to sell Pogba he would stay Mourinho is a non factor in all this.
We pay a manager a whooping 14 million pounds a year and yet he hasn't earned 'the right' to sell a marquee signing who might want to leave? Oh yeah.

If Pogba is desperate to leave and the price for him is right and there is a replacement, Jose will not fight to keep him. It's not about him having any right or not.

Why has this been pinned/stickied? Considering it's not even a transfer chat thread, it's a shite thread about a nonsense Pogba rumour...

Since Martial is linked to Dortmund and we aren't supposed to take the transfer tweet thread too much off-topic; what would people say to a Pulisic Martial swap deal? Not that it is likely.

My initial reaction is it’s not a good deal because Martial has a much higher ceiling. But if he is intent on leaving, the sad truth is we will never see him reach that ceiling with a United Shirt. We could insert a sell thru clause and first purchase option (Dortmund may want the same with Pulisic). So if done correctly, it’s a deal that can benefit both clubs and both players.
I definitely want to see Martial succeed at United, but I am just not sure, how likely that still is. I rate both highly, so I think it would actually be a decent deal for us.

Didn't Howson also say SMS was a done deal? He has very few connections and occasionally gets things right but he uses his small connections to con people into paying for his pseudo-knowledge.

Decided to spoiler your load of nonsense so no-one would accidentally read it, you've taken about 15 paragraphs to try and brag about how fantastic Liverpool is but in all absolute drivel you've amazingly still managed to say nothing of substance. Try being a bit more concise in future, you might have a chance of a few people actually paying attention to you. Well, I say "in future" but 2 likes in 200 posts doesn't really bode well.

Not posting for likes.

You may consider it drivel but you did not really comment in what or all of it you deemed worthless. Zero argumentation on your part. And like it or not Liverpool IS a place to go for whatever the reason.

There's actually a key point in that long message. Players talk to each other a lot more nowadays. They play a quite important part in transfers now. And Paul Pobga plays an integral part in United in that sense.

If Pogba leaves, and I don't believe he will, then my faith in the club getting anywhere at all is lower than under Van Gaal.

Things would look rosier with Maguire and Willian signing. I'm not a big Lukaku fan, because he can't trap a bag of cement. But him flanked by Sanchez and Willian is pretty exciting.

Apparently Bayern would let either Thiago or Vidal move on, we should try really hard to attract one of these..the latter would be a dream signing.

Maguire and Bailly as a CB partnership is better than any pairing we've had since Vida and Rio.

I'm pessimistic about this season, with this current squad we would struggle for Champions League qualification.
Liverpool, City, Tottenham and Chelsea (as of now before Real strip them of Hazard and Courtois) have better squads, and I like the look of Emery's Arsenal too..Aubameyang is going to have a great season I feel.

Howson is very reliable when it comes to academy but is crap when it comes to our team. He said two months ago that Savic deal was done.

How's everyone ranking the top six in terms of how the transfer window has gone so far?

I feel like Arsenal and ourselves have had a pretty strong window, and City adding Mahrez doesn't hurt them. Spurs and United haven't lost anyone important but Chelsea are a bit up in the air at the moment.

Are you? I don't see how we get better, if we swap our best outfield player.
Pogba has not been in our top 5 outfield players in either of his two seasons to date.

People seem happy about Arsenal's work but I am not so sure. Sokratis and Torreira might improve them a bit. Leno and Lichtsteiner look unlikely to be first choice. I am scratching my head a bit, can't see them threatening.

City didn't need to do much but they got Mahrez who is very good.

Liverpool look like they have really improved. Keita, Fabinho and Alisson in exactly the positions they needed. They are a real threat.

Our business looks fine but we could do with a full back and winger, and selling some squad players if possible. I am not bothered about buying yet another CB though looks like we might.

Although he probably won't leave, were he to leave, we could possibly get Thiago and Kovacic, plus get an excuse to bring Pulisic in with that money. Or maybe Mbappe and one of the earlier two.

Then I'd slap myself back to reality.

Question: If the player is a free agent, can Utd sign him after the window closes? I think free agents can be hired until November, correct? (By free agent I mean a player that is out of contract since last season)

I think free agents can sign anytime, could be wrong.

Who is this free agent ?

No one in particular, but I believe some players will try to force their way out since the market is open in La Liga and Serie A. And I'm not referring to Pogba, there are several players doing that all over EPL clubs, and that will make EPL clubs hire some free agents available as a stop-gap.
