When I lived in Manchester I went to Leeds for a weekend. Wasn't too popular in the pubs with a United jersey, got kicked out because too many chavs were pushing and screaming at me.

Klich scored two goals under him already, amazing if Bielsa can get him up a level.

I missed their game vs Stoke last week but they were impressive against Derby. It'll be interesting to see what sort of position they're in come March.

Two options:
1. Already promoted.
2. Squad meltdown, Bielsa fired before christmas, and the club in shambles.

I lean towards option 1, mainly because of Kalvin Phillips. Holding midfielder that can pass(control the match), read the game and with enough physicallity to defend. Should be on the radar for a couple of PL-clubs.

It just feels strange that perhaps the best tactical mind on the planet is at Leeds. It is totally apparent why he is there and not at Barcelona but still inspires a double take everytime I see his name and "Leeds" in the same sentence.

What makes Bielsa arguably the best tactical mind?

I think he is one of the rare coaches who sees things outside of the blueprint that the people before him left. From early on in his career he didn't look at a set of players and say "Okay so I can use a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 or I could even get crazy and try a 3-5-2."

He broke it down into what players tasks are on the pitch without a set template and made the system from there. I actually don't think his 3-3-1-3 is outstanding so maybe "best" is the wrong word, perhaps I should say innovative. His impact on the way things are done now is also important, his attention to small details in positioning and player movement added to his pressure will leave a lasting effect already seen with Pep and Klopp. He hasn't had the same impact as the coaches in the past who thought outside the box but introducing new methods to a game that is centuries old is impressive.

I wouldn't go so far as to say "best tactician" but his tactics are/were quite revolutionary and helped shape the modern game and other great managers.
Not sure his preferred formation will work for United. Ed would have to at least invest in another top quality wingback and ball-playing center-halves.

I definitely think he would be a terrible manager for Utd right now. He needs players who are excellent at following instructions, we have very few of those.

I can only picture it ending in a meltdown.

Yup, we need someone who can come in and connect with the players, ala Klopp in terms of his man management approach, as opposed to an authoritarian fryer like Bielsa.

True, although one thing that just popped into my head is how much Bielsa would love Ander Herrera, certain managers you can just picture getting a lot out of certain players.

Bielsa's speciality is his ability to get a player to perform to a higher level, personally. His tactical efficacy is directly linked to his ability to improve each individual within the tactical framework, individually. Cumulatively when this happens, the entire team click and perform.

I could see a couple players being happy about a potential appointment. (Herrera, Sanchez)

Then again we don't have a bunch of spring chickens on the squad who would follow instructions and run like madmen.

Even Herrera said that he and his Bilbao mates ran on fumes in 2011/12.

Ander Herrera said:
It is quite a romantic view about football, but I can’t lie to you, in the last months we couldn’t even move. We had five games to play in the league and were in two cup finals and I think we lost all of them (they lost three of their last four games in La Liga and both cup finals 3-0).

Our legs said 'stop'. We used to play always with the same players and were not at our best in the finals. We were a completely different team than we had been before because, to be honest, we were physically fecked.

We couldn’t run any more. We played I think 65 games that season - 38 in the league and a cup final in Spain and the Europa League final.

The buzz he has created there this summer is incredible, Leeds fans have not been happier for as long as I can remember.

Hope he gets them into the premier league he will add quality and excitement while bringing up a historically great club if he can pull it off

I ironically completely forgot about Herrera being at Bilbao. That would be a huge issue with him here especially, our players much prefer lightly jogging for the most part.

I don't blame you. Everyone here wants to forget what happened that season.

Seriously? You’re aware that this a website inhabited mainly by Manchester United fans, right?
Well it's not really much of a rivalry these days lets be honest, others have shared the same opinion as well about Leeds going up with Bielsa so I don't see why you have to nitpick my post, if you don't want to talk about Leeds I suggest you do not go into the Bielsa thread since he manages them

Don’t let the fact they play in a different tier of English football make you forget they’re still the enemy after the scouse and Citeh. So you’ll get no sympathy from showering praise on them haha.

I’m fine talking about Leeds, thank.

I also reserve the right to say “ffs” about terrible posts where people wish them well or imply they’re not really rivals. Football wasn’t invented by the Premier League, you know.

They are historically a big club, less of the 'great' :). Everything else I fully agree with, I want them up so we can continue our hostilities.

Yeah it will just add more drama if they get up with him and the head to heads against United will be great entertainment for the fans and spice up an old rivalry

Solid 0-3 win to put Leeds on top on GD. Next game should be fascinating, Leeds Vs Boro, top 2, and such a contrast in style Bielsa Vs Pulis.

Have to admit I never paid much attention to the championship but this could be a fadcinating season. Being an overseas supported I harbour no ill will towards Leeds (apparently disliked by both United and LFC fans) and would like to see them back up with Bielsa, think he would be a welcome addition to the collection of 'elite' PL coaches.

Wonder if we can get @Marching to appear and offer thoughts..?

I'm going to have to take the time to watch a game or two of theirs this season when they are next on Sky. Heard alot about Bielsa and the changes he's made to their play.

Don’t his teams always get tired after Xmas?

What’s he ever won?
Messi's only gold medal for Argentina and the Argentinian league a few times 20+ years ago. Not really managed many very good teams however. 13 years as a manager of Argentina and Chile and then did a decent job at Athletic.

Only if we are in better shape though. The last thing I want is for us to face resurgent, highly attacking City, Liverpool and Leeds teams twice a season while we try to learn to string 3 passes together.

I don't get the reference.
No one knows the classics anymore. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.

Hate Leeds but love Bielsa. A true original. He’ll probably promote them and quit on the day the Premiership season starts
