Ajax are sort of my second team and I am now able to watch them legally here in the states again. So I figure I will start this thread. After 4 consecutive second place finishes Ajax have added players Blind and Tadic who should still be in their prime while only really losing Kluivert.

So what is everyone else's thoughts @PepG @totaalvoetbal @Ajaxsuarez @KirkDuyt

They have the most talented squad, but Psv are very strong too. Ajax is more spectacular with higher ups, but psv is very consistent and their ability to get late goals is up there with United under Sir Alex.

Really can't pick a clear favourit honestly. Hope Psv edges it though since domestically I want Ajax to fail, badly ;)

Other than those 2 no teams will be contenders I think.

I have been keeping up with scores and notice that klaas jan huntelaar has been scoring a lot recently is he back to full form now ? how many goals do you reckon he will score? Also Tadic seems to be a level above everyone in that league seems to be getting a goal or assist or both in every game! Lastly are their any upcoming talents from that league that we have not heard of yet from any of the big 3 or any of the smaller clubs ?

Side note: FC Porto signed Bazoer I remember him being an interesting talent at Ajax a few years back, is he the real deal or just hype?

There's only one player that's a level above everyone. And it isn't Tadic.

Lozano is working his way op there. Although i'm sure a few of the eredivsie followers won't agree with me.

No, Ziyech is the best player by far imo.

Oh wow I mean he is very talented saw a lot of him in Twente. Though I have not seen any game of Ajax this year besides vs Kiev I Made that assumption based on Tadic stats I was very impressed.

There are four from that list of players I would love to see United buying. The excitement from buying young talent is always greater for me than when we sign the ready made players. De Ligt would be my dream signing, followed by De Jong, Lozano and Ziyech. All potential superstars, with De Ligt being an absolute nailed on certainty to reach the very top level.

Ziyech is not United quality IMO.

Possibly not mate, but still has potential to be much, much better than half the dross we have in our squad currently
Untill you realise he's the same age as Pogba and a typical great in the Eredivisie not good enough for a real league type of player.

Bit like Brian Ruiz.

But, then there is someone like Van Bommel did not leave Holland until he was 27 and ended up achieving a lot at the highest levels.

True, but Van Bommel played in a PSV side that was practically in the CL final. It may have only been ten years, but the level of our league has dropped dramatically since then.

Van Bommel is also a completely different player. Ziyech has more talent than Van Bommel, Im sure of that, but he lacks both physical and mental strength for the top I think.

Perhaps Im wrong and Ziyech will tear of the premier league or La liga in a few years, but I doubt it.

Jahanbakhsh, 21 goals and 12 assists in 33 for AZ last year and moved to Brighton. Only been used as a sub so far. Be interesting to see if he can do anything in the PL this season.

I think Ziyech's ability to create chances would translate anywhere but, I just do not know what position he would play on a real good side.

That's another problem. Jahanbakhsh is a gifted player and great to watch, in an attacking team like AZ that's better than most league opponents he's great. Now he's in a lower premier league team where he has to work his balls of to keep up with the play. Leaving much less energy for his attacking, add to that the fact that defenders in the premier league will actually mark you and you're gonna have a bad time. Same thing happened to Steven Berghuis at Watford. Playing for the top 4 in the Eredivisie is an attackers dream. All defenses are shite and you have 70% of the ball.

That’s when it becomes a mental thing too, not to lose your confidence when the game is a struggle and you get few opportunities to show your qualities.

Leicester tried to sign him this summer. Would have been a great choice as a replacement for Mahrez.
Roma wanted him until they were able to get Pastore. And Lyon looked at him as their replacement for Fekir until the transfer fell through.

Well Jozy scored 20 something odd goals in Holland too and he was a flop at the highest level. Its tuff to judge a player by his stats in the Eredivise because of how poor the quality is especially defensively. Always great talents coming out of their tho just have to get the right one. Sporting got Bas Dost and he came from their and he scores goals for fun and then their are others who have not had the same luck when moving to a bigger league.

Dost isnt good enough for the top leagues eitger though to be fair. Bit of a poor man's Huntelaar.

de Jong and De Ligt are the two best young players in Holland. I think after this season both will be in Spain

De Ligt is a must buy for us. De Jong would be more suited to spanish football and Lozano needs a few years to develop although he is already looking really good.

Not sure about that. PSV are flying again. Lozano looks great, former City boy Angelino looks good, and it may well be the year of Steven Bergwijn.

How does Lozano need time to develop and Frenkie de Jong doesnt? I rate De Jong, I really do, but why Barcelona nearly bought him this year is completely beyond me. The boy has played half a season in defense, he did well enough there, but still not in his natural position. He was injured for a bit, and now he's played a few good games this season. Shouldn't we let him play 1 entire season in mid field before declaring him the new Johan Cruijff?

Hype's insane with this kid.

Ideally, yes. But top clubs nowadays buy players as soon as they show promise. Best examples are Arthur and Dembele Barca bought. Arthur played 40 games for Porto Alegre and Dembele something similar for Dortmund (one season only) before both got snapped up by Barca. You would let them develop a few years in the best case, but it happens quicker nowadays. When they come calling, rarely does a player say no. I have read in the summer that they fear someone else could buy De Jong or De Ligt, for example Spurs or Bayern. Then they would have to pay double or triple the amount in the coming years to get them from these clubs.

As for the hype, Social media and twitter are a huge part of that. Every player getting linked to these clubs gets hype, especially Barca. They are hyping up De Jong and De Ligt to be their next Cruyff and Koeman with avatars/photoshop and gifs all over their timeline

I think our club is finally starting to tinker with using 3 at the back with a midfielder as our 3rd central CB. it's been highlighted as an option for too long & not been utilized.

Whilst De jong is clearly a CDM - a team that buys him to play & give him his own role - like a CB who is allowed to take the ball forward up to Cm and even more will get the best use of him. He has the ability to make a position historically his own; whilst messi played attackingly as a false Cf in between two inverted forwards; De Jong has the ability to play as a false CB inbetween two wider inverted forwards.

De Ligt I understand completely, he's Ajax captain and has done well both domestically as well as in the EL (he was one of the bright spots of the final) and for Oranje.

Frenkie de Jong has played all but 10 professional games in his actual position. Last years Ajax didn't win the league or cup and was ousted from Europe by Rosenborg. The fact that Justin Kluivert is named Kluivert puts some reason behind Roma buying him after 2 good games, but Frenkie de Jong, who is a youth product of Willem 2 (he joined Ajax when he was 18) and is yet to play a complete impressive season in the shiter than shite Dutch league should not go anywhere near a club like Barca at the moment.

For Dutch people I may come across as a jealous Feyenoord supporter, but I'm honestly not, I want him to become the next big thing, I just genuinely haven't seen it from him yet.

Ok, i won't say you're jealous. ;)

But if you don't see that Frenkie absolute top class you're kinda blind. I hope he gets a chance against France this weekend. we'll talk again after...

Of course I see he's class, he oozes it, every touch of the ball is perfect, he weighs his passes well, he's both positionally and tactically sound, it's just that he's barely played any real matches.

Oh and I'm jealous as feck. I would sell Clasie into slavery without any remorse if it meant Feyenoord could sign Frenkie.

I understand and I agree. De Jong also needs time to develop but quality in midfield is easier to detect than quality in attack. Lozano might score and assist a lot but so did Janssen. De Jong needs to stay in the eredivisie for experience and reputation while I think Lozano still has something to prove.

The most remarkable thing about Clasie has always been the tattoo on his arm that says: "You are everyting to me"

No I did not misspell that, he did.

Yes and no I think he has all the attributes to succeed in leagues like EPL and Bundesliga. He showed he had what it takes to play their in 2014/15 he was scoring goals for fun he is tall has great positioning and if he has 3 chances will score 2 goals.

The issue is his style of play is not really one that is used in modern football he is a classic number 9 whip the ball in and he is their similar to Jardel a few years ago. He is a guy who needs to only stay in the box and if is played to his strengths will score 20+ goals in Portugal he has averaged 34 goals 2 season in a row so far.

Modern football is evolved now and strikers do much more then just score and the limits his usage.

RVP is miles above the rest in terms of quality, he's old though and struggles to consistently play 90 minutes. Berghuis is probably our most valuable player. He had the most goals & assists totals of all Eredivisie players last year. Behind that Jorgensen is a good striker, though he's been struggling with injuries. The rest of the team are a bit subpar to be honest.

The only big talent in the team right now is left back Tyrell Malacia, he's 19 and has done quite well so far. Honestly, things are a bit glum at Feyenoord. The signings are very uncreative, we were in for Eljero Elia (yet again) and Brian Linssen from Vitesse. Meanwhile Ajax and PSV sign players like Lozano, Ziyech, Tadic etc and Feyenoord fans wonder why we can't compete.

To be fair, I'm used to Feyenoord being a bit shite, but it's all good.
