problem is a lot of these people are bonified A list movie stars so with Cavil on board I doubt there is really that much more scope for big names. Chloe would have the martial art skills and so on you would think from Hitgirl but nah, not for me. Plus depending on what the plan is she’ll be 7-8 when she first shows up in the series and be 16 by the end. So i’d I’d imagine it might be an unknown actress or just someone really young like Milly Bobby Brown. Although if we are going for the older Ciri, Emma Watson or Cara Delvigne maybe.
God no. Delevigne has been awful in anything I've seen her in. Watson just doesn't fit. Ciri is going to have to start out as a child too if they go by the books and she is pretty tall for a woman as she gets older. I'd rather an unknown.

I love Kate Beckinsale as much as anyone but she s too much of a distraction if that makes any sense. Kate does have the grace, maturity, intellect and let's face it.. sexuality of Yen's character but I'd like for them to dig up someone relatively unknown. In a way not knowing the actress might go a long way in adding to the mystique surrounding the character.
I agree. Kate Beckinsale is too Kate Beckinsale. I dunno if she could pull off the haughty bitchiness of Yennefer either. Eva Greene could do it. Eva Greene could probably play Geralt and make it convincing.

That last line I do agree with but reminds me of Modern Family where Cam says

“Meryl Streep could play Batman and be the right choice. She is perfection.”

Seems like everyone is in agreement that Yennefer should be Eva Greene. Hopefully it happens.

All this TV show talk is making want to fire up The Wild Hunt, never did finish one of the DLC, but I feel like i’d need to start from scratch again and that is a massive time investment.

Alexandra Daddario as Triss, no reasons at all for that suggestion :wenger:

Good god no! Especially the latter.

I would have preferred Zach McGowan (Charles Vane in Black Sails) just because of how he looks - but Henry is still a solid choice. If we're going for a prime Geralt then Mads is too old for me (but amazing actor). Henry is a massive fan which he gets kodus for - and for me he's a good actor.

Looking forward to this!

The only problem with Eva Greene is that it could end up like Penny Dreadful where she acts everyone else off the screen. Other than that she would be perfect.

Both DLC's are great in their own way. Blood and Wine is better than most full games. Re-watch the Night to Remember trailer before playing it.

I wonder what story they're going for. If they're going strictly by the books, there are a number of characters that are more interesting than Triss in terms of casting. Milva, Cahir, Regis, Dandelion, Vilgefortz and Leo Bonhart are all pretty important outside of the main trio. Especially Vilgefortz will be interesting.

I read somewhere they'll have Regis in the series, I don't really see how they can possibly reach the point he enters the story in just 8 episodes. Unless they're already talking about future seasons.

I might be wrong, but I *think* I remember reading that when the show was announced. Could be wrong and it could’ve changed.

Some of the good stuff that happened in the first two books (off the top of my head so there’s probably more);

How Geralt became known as ‘The Butcher of Blaviken’
His fight with the Striga (think it’s the very first cutscene/video that plays before The Witcher 1)
How he met/became destined with Ciri
How he met/became destined with Yen
The time him, Yen, Dandelion and some others fought a dragon
Yennefers backstory
————
It’s an interesting one though, like Revan mentions the books are jampacked with action sequences, war, politics, sex etc. but at its core it is very introspective. Geralt oft finds himself filled with self-doubt about his worldly philosophies. How well that translates - or if they even take that direction - will be interesting.

Really? I guess I’m wrong about it only being the first two novellas then. I’m pretty sure Regis is introduced within the third or fourth when the overarching plot - Geralt and his hansa try to find Ciri - is laid out.

There's about 15 years of story to be told between Geralt's fight against the Striga and Regis' introduction. I really wonder how they're going to condense the short stories in a way that makes sense. Some of them explain how Geralt became such an infamous Witcher, others set up his link to Ciri, with the law of surprise in Cintra and others explain his chaotic relationship with Yennefer. They really can't afford to rush that part of the story.

Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter?

I was thinking earlier about Saoirse Ronan, not sure why she came to mind but I wasn’t thinking for Ciri.
Yes, Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter ^^
Probably thought of those two because of their very light hair and complexion.

Wouldn't say that they're above her - bar Vilgefortz - but you can put all of them around the same level, after the main trio. Triss got a heavy upgrade on the games though, when she became Yen's replacement for the first two games.

I am a bit worried about short stories. They're good and fun, and more importantly introduce the main trio (and some other supporting characters). Geralt-Ciri relations is the main thing in the saga, and is introduced on the first book, while Geralt-Yen(a) story is important and the Gini fight would be fun.

However the thing is that after the first two books (short story collection), the story changes and becomes much bigger. It is still personal and based on Geralt, but it changes from Geralt the monster hunter, to Geralt whom for some reasons happens to be in the center of a political battle between many different fractions, kingdoms and an empire. It also becomes much more mature, with all the political drama. If they target GoT audience, they should already start with the novels instead of short stories, and if they start with short stories, the jump from them to the novels might look too steep.

This is exactly why they need to pull all the stops to cast her. Eva Green as Yen would make it more than watchable even if everything else sucks. And let's face it, who doesn't want to see what Eva Green can make of Yennefer?:drool::drool:

I'm already terrified of Yennefer. I don't need Eva Green making that all too real! She is brilliant though, I can't even work out if I find her attractive or just insanely talented. Is she really that hot or just acting?

Have you watched The Dreamers? probably her best work she has ever done, cough, cough, it’s for sure because she is extremely talented. Penny Dreadful everyone else was dreadful except her, she should be the number 1 target.

I think she's a stunning woman, but I have a soft spot for French women. Don't know about hot, I don't think that word fits her.

So we all agree then, we'd take her for a lovely KFC and a fingering. Not together because that would be weird.

She would be perfect for the role to the point I can't even think of anyone else that would suit.

Have always had a soft spot for Bridget Regan ever since Legend of the Seeker. Her acting was pretty bad in that imho but she s been good in anything I've seen of her after that. She seems like she has the looks and more importantly the intellectual and playful sensuality needed for the character.

Odette Annable
She was in Banshee, Cloverfield and is now in Supergirl. Another one to add to the list of possibilities.

Odette Annable is definitely a beauty and more importantly a very capable actress. Thought her best role was on House, but she was good on Banshee as well. I barely recognize her in that fan art.

Apparently Ciri won't be white in the series. A leaked casting notice is looking for a 13-16 year old black, Asian or minority female for the role.

Internet isn't happy!

Make it an adult pagan show, perhaps something in mood of Vikings or else it will lost the charm of books with so many juicy descriptions of violence, gore, sex, nudity and profanity.

I agree in a way. Obviously tho there will likely be significantly more humor in this than in Vikings tho. I guess now that I think about it Vikings has almost no humor at all. Seeing how this show will inevitably need be a bit sfx heavy tho making it dark imho is the only way to also draw in the crowd that doesn't like fairies and dragons so to speak. In a way this show should build up the sfx heavy stuff like GoT did. I've talked to many people who said they normally don't like fantasy stuff but they like watching it for the darker things like the human intrigue part. The more classical fantasy stuff it contains didn't show up to a larger degree until people were already hooked on the show.

I expected an appearance change, if only to differentiate Ciri from Danaerys from GOT. Another white haired girl/lost princess invites inevitable comparison and probably some derision.

It will probably be shite anyway, most recent stuff from Netflix has been, a diverse cast is never a problem, allowing contemporary social politics and virtue signalling to become more important than actual solid writing, characterization and world building is when I lose interest. Subtle commentary is fine, distracting, immersion breaking displays less so.

Aye, there should be some comical relief filled with cursing and fecking around but my fear is the actor who will play Dandelion. I doubt they'll cast someone vastly talented like T.Hiddlestone but it's really important character for the Witcher's lore. It has to be someone who will deliver both comedic and bit more serious tone as in many times Geralt's only true friend.

Not surprised, kinda had a feeling they would do something along those lines with someone, although if it’s Ciri then surely that would mean changes for other characters like her father or mother, possibly even Nilfgard.

There is another one with Eva Green the same guy has done but it wasn’t all that good. I barely recognised her as well in that picture.

Political correctness is the most important thing in our era. The problem is for people who have read the books and played the games, at the beginning will be weird to see Ciri look totally different from books/game.

Why wouldn't they be? There's nothing wrong with diversity, but the way Hollywood, games and the media have ham fistedly handled it the last few years there was always going to be backlash.

I'm against it, if you want diversity then add in your own characters. Don't change an established character just to fit your political agenda. You change Ciri and you've got to change either the entire nation of Nilfgard or Cintra. Change Nilfgard and you go down the hole of calling them "The Black Ones" being "problematic". It also makes me worry how they are going to handle the racism within the world where everyone is as bad as each other. It's a move that doesn't give me high hopes given the material and how it could easily go deeply wrong if real world SJW politics or political correctness are thrust upon it.
