Portuguese media saying Spain is trying to organize the 2030 World Cup together with Portugal and Morocco.

A World Cup in 2 continents would be something new. What's the general opinion about this possibility?

I would like a Uruguay-Argentina world cup.

Makes sense to celebrate 100 years of WC where it all began.
Hope so. Europe would miss out, but i would love to go to that WC and visit Argentina/Uruguay, having some roots there

Isn't Argentina completely broke right now?

And Uruguay is too small for a modern WC. Maybe Brazil-Uruguay?

But again, I read Brazil lost a lot of cash in the WC and Olympics recently, plus the economic situation seems to be getting worse.

I think finances will be the big obstacle for a South America WC.

It'll definitely be Uruguay in some part. Maybe opening match and final or along those lines.
But there's great optimism in Latin America that it'll be held there due to first wc in Uruguay in 1930.

It would be poetic. Are there any credible rumors?

There's already a Uruguay–Argentina–Paraguay bid on the table and I'm sure they'll stump up the money between them for 12 years time.
Argentina has insane inflation at the moment. When I came here two years ago $1 was 14 pesos, now it's 40... I'd be surprised if there'll be money over here for the next couple of decades..

Don’t sleep on China. FIFA is desperate to have them hold a WC over there. If they come with a bid, it’ll be really hard to beat that.

Yes. But didn't FIFA end the rotation principle after the Brazil bid? As far as I remember only the confederation that held the last WC cannot bid.

Yes isn't this the year England with Scotland, Wales and Ireland want to host?

I wouldn't be against Argentina-Uruguay doing it though.

Yup. Although given the turbulence of the Argentine economy I don't know if it would be wise. I'd like to see it though.

Wasn't the Brazil economy in a mess around the time they hosted in 2014? I remember there were protests on the streets when they hosted the Confed cup the year before.

It's 12 years away, maybe things will pick up. Argentina nearly went bust in 2001 and then a few years later things were pretty stable.

I am fairly confident it will be England + one or more of the other home nations.

It’s way, way overdue.

Argentina is a middle income country in economic turmoil right now. Uruguay has a population of 5m.

Neither are close to being fit to host a WC.

Uruguay at 5m, Qatar probably has half of that, and it has zero football history. Makes you think how on earth this 2022 WC is going to be pulled off.

I would love the WC to be hosted in the U.K. & Ireland. Get the chance to see great national teams without spending a fortune.

I would like a World Cup hosted in major cities across the world.
The 100 year WC should be done like the next Euro, have a group each near a major city somewhere.

The final can go to Uruguay.

Argentina was worse off in 1998-2002 and they recovered. Economic Crisis are the bread and butter of Latin America. Brazil was also in the middle of a recession during WC/Rio Olympics.

2030 will be a 48 team world cup and maybe even 64 as rumoured with 16 groups of 4 teams then round of 32 followed by Round of 16. If so only the UK and the US could hold the tournament and maybe the combined Iberian bid with Morroco.

Uruguay and Argentina would be nostalgic but financially impossible, the combined UK bid looks to be the sensible option with Both Northern and Southern Ireland joined by Wales, Scotland and England.

UK World Cup would be great, largely because the infrastructure is there to host the World Cup if it started tomorrow, and there won't be issues with rushing to build stadia in terrible working conditions and people dying. Not that FIFA give a toss about that.

The infrastructure is there in the south. Good luck when millions of tourists descend on the north and need a train!

You would need to extend the tournament to two full months or even more to allow for intercontinental travel which would be inevitable under this format. It’s plenty of hassle for teams and even more for fans.

Trains are shite here in the south too. IMO the north west has much better transport links. And if you're going to Scotland from anywhere from the Midlands and below, you might as well fly, considering how cheap it is (and how extortionate trains are)

Hopefully they'll just leave Scotland out of it. They can have a pity qualification spot, but their grounds are all a dump anyway.

What I find crazy about the 2030 WC is that Mbappe will be coming to the end of his career ha. I wonder if they'll be a new wonderkid on the scene ready to take the football world by storm.
