To be honest if he wear something like a retro sport dress up, he will look cool as feck.

Wait. You think saying his hair reminded me of Coolio is offensive?
His hair doesn’t look anything like Coolio’s, not even a little bit.

Your comment wasn’t the worst but it was completely baffling nonetheless.

To be honest I think it's stupid and a bit immature. He's a bloody grown man with a teenagers hair cut and like some others in the team, I question their mentality at times. Shouldn't matter but for me it says a lot. We lack Men in this team and there are too many that are mentally child-like.

Haircut was a disaster, but he played well. Looks like he wanted something different, but didn't know what to go for.

You are very easily baffled.

It might not be the same, but I havent seen Coolio in a long time. Saying it reminded me of Coolios hair shouldnt be even remotely controversial...

Sadly telling of our zeitgeist when people become that sensitive about a post of a black man of African descent with braided dreads.

(bleep) Trump and his fascist agenda; I can't even make a Coolio reference without being accused of being a racist.

I’m still baffled, especially since Coolio wore cornrows for most of his non-bald existence.
The grouping of black hairstyles that deviate from the ‘norm’, is the controversial part, as if they’re all the same and black people suddenly look like each other.
It’s predictable.
Like I said, yours isn’t the worst.

Don’t think I said anything about offensive but it’s amazing to see these stereotypes like crack addict, wakanda etc. thrown around so casually based on a haircut.

Just wondering if anyone would say this kind of thing in front of a person that had this hairstyle on the street. I completely get finding someone’s hairstyle funny but throwing stereotypes is not cool to me.

I don't normally pay much attention to Smalling's hair, but I did actually notice it before the match and thought it looked good on him. Iinitially I thought it didn't look so good when it was at the sweaty and weather beaten stage, but after he scored it seemed perfect.

Looks worse with the pink kit somehow. Maybe he thinks if it worked for Rio (kind of), it can worked for me. I remember Wes Brown copying Rio, and he looked ridiculous too....

I like it, I've seen him in person many times and he always looks good, I'd be more concerned by his alleged conversion to veganism.

I wouldn't worry about that. Top athletic performance is entirely possible on a vegan diet, particularly one as micromanaged as Smalling's will be.

Seems he’s playing better, without injuries being a vegan.
I believe so, but it's still quite a recent lifestyle change, I'm aware that other sportspeople have successfully managed to perform at a high level whilst maintaining a vegan lifestyle, but is it something for a central defender in a very physical league? I guess if a boxer can do it then a footballer can. I just find it hard to imagine having witnessed first hand the volume of food footballers can eat.

Brilliant hair. Scored and defended very well. Dredd-ful, in a good way.

Nice goal though. I guess they told him to think he's passing the ball to a teammate whose standing more then 4 meters away from him.

everclear is a cool band. yeah they still exist.
It's probably a lot less offensive than this "contribution" to the conversation:
I apologise. I knew beforehand that I maybe took it too far - hence the "sorry for the racism" part - but I posted it anyway because I wouldn't have been offended if the joke (and it was a joke) had hypothecially been at my expense (I am from the middle east, so let's assume somebody would have posted "It's like he remembered he is a terrorist")

However, just because I wouldn't have been offended, that does not mean that others need or should react in the same way. I realise that now, and therefore: I am sorry.

Most people know him from Keenan and Kel and the music video for Gangsta's Paradise so that's the available memory. Also, comparing Smalling's hair to his is fine. How many celebrities you expect us to know with that sort of hairstyle?

His hair was in cornrows on both Kenan and kel, and the gangstas paradise video, completely different.

I don’t expect you to know that many people with Smalling’s hairstyle, so how about complimenting his hair, without having to compare him to somebody else?

A bunch of guys in the NFL have gone vegan in the last few years, and it's had a positive impact on their fitness. For whatever reason, cutting red meat seems to have a positive effect on tendinitis, which Smalling has said he's continually suffered from and played through.

Hes only recently gone fully vegan but he's even said he was mostly vegan before as his missus had been for a long time, and he'd eat what she eats.

It's positive for him so there is no concern at all. Its just food afterall.

We often compare things to that which are familiar to us. It's perfectly reasonable to discuss in addition to complimenting his hair.

When i seen this thread the other day i thought to myself it'll only be a page or two before someone gets accused of saying something racist or stereotyping etc.

Most discussed hairstyle since Rooney went from slaphead to full locks.

Some of the replies in this thread, I have no words
 why are you surprised? I knew exactly the responses we were going to get when I clicked this thread. Middle aged white men being asked to discuss an afro hairstyle.

Guessing from all these replies they are the cutting edge of style
