I’m not having a go, but it’s just thread after thread of negativity isn’t it?

Obviously when you’re spending that much money you expect to be one of the best football teams in the world. The reality is we are some way off at the moment.

But at the end of the day, we are spending within our means, so it’s not a huge problem IMO.

We massively overpay mediocre players. Then people wonder why we have trouble selling deadwood and why we end up selling them for peanuts. It's because no other club is stupid enough to pay them anywhere close to what we do.

Of course it's a problem. We end up stockpiling shite players who we can't get rid of because they don't want to walk away from a massive contract.

Not a surprise, we pay way over the odds for players and mànagers who are just not good enough. They do not provide the returns that are expected from them compared to the money that they are being paid.

So we have the 2nd most expensive squad in Europe now (in terms of wages)

Let's win something!

We need to stop signing shite players on high transfer fees and/or wages.

We will take a hit on those players. It’s a problem, just not a huge problem as we can afford it.

I’m more concerned about what happens on the pitch. Financially we don’t need to worry.

Unfortunately ridiculous wages are what we have to offer if we want top players.

Or we could just get potentially great players who fit the system and won't ask for astronomical wages. But nah let's go full Galactico but achieve feck all.

We can afford it for now, but if it keeps rising we won't be able to. It's an unsustainable model.

United remind me of Madrid post Del Bosque when it was a mismatch of players from different regimes with different managers coming in with different philosophies and thus no consistency (strangely enough, until they got Jose for a few years).

I agree with most, the problem with paying so much for mediocre players is then getting rid of them at a loss. Were trying to force it in terms of getting back to the top with no actual visible plan.

Especially when Sanchez is performing the way he is on those wages. All it's going to do is feck up the wage structure and players are going to demand more.

When it comes to the financial side of things we are the best in the world.

Seriously, it may appear reckless but it is certainly sustainable for us.

Look at our senior management team and owners. They are money men. They know how to make money.

As a fan I personally don’t mind how much we spend on players.

Again, for now. Spending money is a lot easier than earning it. If every player wants half a million a week to join us and we blindly give them it, this club will go bust.

More to the point City's revenues are just £90m less than Utd's now which means if Utd fail to get into the Champions League, City will be financially more powerful than Utd which will mark a return to the first days of the City takeover before Financial Fair Play took effect.

So tell me, why would an experienced money man like Woodward do it then if it wasn’t sustainable?

Just a matter of time untill we get a topic with sources telling someone United is the worst organisation in the history of sports if this keeps up.

On the topic at hand, it's a grim statistic to be honest.

He stopped the transfers coming in after Fred Dalot and the goalie. These were all cheap and probably low wages. This could be a sign of an unsustainable model

Well he hasn't done it this summer has he? Isn't that the clearest indication to you that we do not have a bottomless pot of money?

Just wondering exactly how we got in to this mess.

New players/agents have smelt desperation from a United needing to get back on top?
Old players/agents have done the same knowing we don't want to be losing players we need while trying to get back on top?
Muppet managers desperately to keep players and setting a terrible precedent (Rooney springs to mind)?

I know we get a United tax, but why don't other teams who everyone knows have a giant/infinite pot get a similar or worse tax?

We need to start including variables or bonuses instead of bigger basic pay. If the player is performing well and activating bonuses even upto 200k or more than fair fecks to him.

Not sure they are even Galactico signings. They are not quite Galactico signings, which means we don't quite go anywhere.

Thought it would reduce after getting rid of Zlatan and Rooney but we still lead conduct poor management. Laugh at Spurs all they want but they've managed to keep all their main players thus far and kept the wages fairly low (in football terms).

So what you’re saying is from now on we’re not going to overpay on players again?

Suddenly Woodward and co will now be more frugle with the money for the most profitable sports club on the planet?

Just because you picked one summer in ages where we didn’t spend big money, doesn’t prove your point. How do you know we weren’t spending this summer in order to spend big in January or in the summer under a new manager?

We will continue to spend big and overpay, and we will do so because we can.

What is clear is that if Woody doesn't think it makes financial sense, he won't do it. There's evidence of financial constraint.

That's not to say we are poor and can't afford the best. We can, but maybe not as frequently as some fans would like.

Paying huge wages for top class players is not problem. Our problem is that average players are having salaries like first team players in some other top clubs.

Its gone up from 45% to 50.2% last season according to OP. Not a bad number to deserved all of this hysteria. You would think we are on the brink of collapse reading some replies and not sure its all Jose.

Not surprising Woodward doesn't bother negotiating he just throws money at the situation.

I don't feel that we are getting value for the money being spent. We don't spend effectively or efficiently. Which is why 5-6 years post Sir Alex, we still have not rebuild a Title-winning squad, despite spending approximately 500 million pounds with the accompanying huge wage bills.

Wholesale improvements necessary at ever level to restore us to the status of elite on the football pitch.
