Sure let's laugh at Lukaku. Our striker who was constantly trying to receive balls in MIDFIELD, and then had the urge of trying to get the ball forward. Let's forget he's actually a striker, and should be nowhere near our midfield, or should be nowhere near giving as many crosses as he did. He was the only united player on the field who showed any attacking determination besides Rashford. Why did he stumble so foolishly over the ball at the end? It's because he was tired af from receiving the balls in midfield, getting it forward, and then running to the box himself.

He proves how good he actually is at the Belgian national team. That is how many goals he can score if he is allowed to play as a striker. That is how many goals he can score if he plays in a team with an attacking mindset. The hate he receives is ridiculous.
Scoring a little over 1 in 2 for Belgium isnt so impressive when you realize how many of them come against the likes of San Marino/Luxembourg/etc, and how few come against actually competent teams. I dont know why anyone ever looks at goalscoring stats for national teams overall. They dont mean much for the quality of a player. If a country has a great team but no adequate strikers, that average striker is still going to rack up stats against the countries without professional footballers.

It's hard to comprehend Lukaku's first touch. It's clear that he has become much slower and clumsier comparing to last season. He really needs to lose weight, or he is going to become famous for his hilariously bad first touches.

Why do people keep saying this stuff?

He can't do the basics right at all.......he's a liability at moment. Shocking how bad he us at football. You don't see anyone else having his touch and lack of movement.

Can't believe he is our main striker............Shocking

Romelu, you spent almost the whole game hiding pretending to be playing off the defenders shoulder

I can't have been the only one shocked that the fat feck didn't actually burst the ball when he stood on it?

My first and only reaction to this thread is, What Touch? That being said i firmly believe that Lukaku is not the only one at fault for his abysmal performance this season. he is a kind of player who thrives on delivery, United has zero. He ain't no Drogba, or even Costa for that matter, to live off scraps. Either feed him balls to score otherwise get another striker Jose.

Did our scouts not watch him at Everton? Its shocking that any team would spend so much on a player with so many fundamentals lacking.
Jose wanted him badly, that’s the cost of giving managers the full control.

He has over a 100 goals in the premier league. He was our top scorer last season. But I guess everyone just wants to see what he wants to see.

And yep obviously I'm Romelu Lukaku... but the facts are there

Under a tree.
People keep going on about his record, so he must be good....yeah Darren Bent also had a good record but was also a average footballer found out at the top level. He's our Darren Bent.
He went to Sprus for 17m back in 2007. Let's just hope we recoup like they did..:nervous:

I quite liked him last season, and I thought the talk of his lousy first touch had been blown out of proportion. His hold up play was reasonable for the most part. Not amazing, but I don't think he's a target man anyway, but based on all the chat about him having zero technique before we signed him, I thought he did fine.

He looks noticeably worse this season. Bigger, heavier, clumsier. I don't know if he's piling on muscle or if he's put on weight, but its one of the two. He definitely looks chunkier, and not particularly in a ripped sort of way. He used to be rapid, and he still does have a good top speed, but his movements over short distances are much slower than they used to be. There is very significant regression IMO. He wasn't always this bad!

Yeah theres been plenty of reliable goalscorers without being good footballers. Lukaku is one of them. Big clubs need strikers who bring more to the game (and can control a ball).

I would have expected Mourinho to know better than our scouts if it’s about Lukaku.

His touch is probably the worst of all forwards in the top 5 leagues in Europe, but you can't criticize the man's scoring ability. He's 25 years old and is 1 in 2 over the last 7 years in all competitions, not just the NT. It took him 216 games in the PL to score 100 goals (12th fastest in PL history while playing the majority of those games for Everton) so implying that he's an average goal scorer is just plain laughable.

He’s so bad. Thinking about it, he’s got worse since we signed him. Actually, gradually declined. Remember the pre season goal v City or dash and finish v West Ham. He’s done. Needs binning ASAP.

Not sure why our own fans are taking the piss out of him when there's enough opposition fans doing it already.

That said, it can be embarrassing watching him when stuff like that happens. Felt he held the ball better today, though.

It's not just Lukaku's touch, he always seems that split second behind the player marking him when both are moving toward the ball from a standing start, it's almost like he lacks concentration and only when his marker moves does he realise he has to move as well. For a big lad he can move, once he overcomes his inertia, but he is still easily 'muscled out' of it by players with less bulk. Balls played to him down the channel so he can get into a foot race with his marker is his only real out ball.

If Jose is going to continue to play him up top it means taking a different approach with his support players. He should try playing Lukaku wide on the right and give Martial or Rashford a longer run in the central striker role.

Said it as a bit of a joke when we signed him that most of the fans in the stadium will be better at trapping a ball than he is.

But I was actually right on the money, tragically.

Every time I see the ball ricochet off his foot I cast my mind back to the finesse of the likes of Van Persie and Berbatov and wonder how we’ve got here.

I had a good chuckle listening to the Spanish commentators on my stream describing him as 'corpulento.' I was able to pick out assorted references to 'fish and chips' in the same commentary.
