This is so bad  I still have nightmares about LvG's second season but it was actually better number-wise.

He almost has to get sacked unless we improve incredibly fast.
The quality of the league was awful that season to be fair. Didn't Liverpool finish 8th and Chelsea about 10th?

That's true, this will probably be a season with an all-time high point tally for the 4th place. LvG still had 6 more points than we do now in 2015/16.

Finishing fifth e.g. no longer means you're awful and terrible, but losing to Brighton and West Ham does.

When we can't mathematically get top four.
This is what is in the contract I suppose. But it's such a dumb idea. Something like 10 points off top 4 at any point in the season would be a more ideal criteria to sack the manager. Atleast this way, we would still have a chance to salvage something out of the season. Otherwise, it's a complete write-off.

Around March 17thish after we play Arsenal and City for the second time in the league. It'll also coincide with when top four is mathematically impossible.
I think you've summed up what most here would want to say in a logical manner.

To put it into context. If Chelsea and Arsenal win tonight the gap to top 4 will be 11 points (12 due to GD).

In LVGs Sacked season his lowest point was 6 points behind Top 4 (Week 25 and 26).
In Moyes Sacked season his lowest point was 12 points behind Top 4 (Week 28, 30 and 32).

So for Jose to achieve pretty much the identical gap between Top 4 in 15 games is astonishingly bad and doesn't compare to LVGs season at all. It's a bit more like Moyes season except it took the gap till near the end of the season to reach and yet we'll have done it this year with more than 50% of the season to go. The scenarios are very, very different.
I didn't realize we were so bad! I don't know what the board is waiting for. There's no coming back from this.

Brighton are one point behind us. It's never been this bad in the PL

I have a feeling a lot of fans would want us to lose tonight if it meant Mourinho would get the sack sooner. Because they hate him more than they love United. This is where some are now.

It's not a case of when will he be, but when should he have been.

He should've gone weeks ago, if not months.

The fact he's still here really only serves to tell us that there is no pressing desire to sack him.

Yeah but a lot of fans are just generally apathetic. If we win, great, but so what? What's it going to do for our season? The ship has sailed whether we win or lose.

I don't hate him and i certainly don't want us to loose any game. I'm just praying that the board will understand that Mourinho is not the manager for us anyway.

Unfortunately i think the board has made it clear it's top 4 or get sacked, so as long there is chance to get top 4, he will be here. We will have to wait a bit longer.

He will walk in the summer, and should for his sake and this fanbases who seems deranged on the levels of pool and arsenal fans lately.

If we dont get a director of football our next manager will also be a failure and we will quite literally sink into mediocrity unfortunately, our transfer business is like giving a teenager money to buy whatever he wants and he spends it on fur coats and flashy cars

There’ll be a moment when a perfect storm arises where
costs of dismissal/blame from fans and media/availability of chosen replacements
all align.
That is when he will be dismissed.
It may be immediately, it may be some months away but the board are assuredly waiting for that day to come IMO.

What teenagers buy fur coats with their money? Maybe Liberace did back in the day but round my way the only fur they know is skunk.

He could lose the next three league games and still avoid the sack, most likely he will be here until around March.

He will be even more miserable once all the leaks about his replacement start and he is struggling to stay in the top 8.

Don't understand the logic behind waiting until top 4 is mathematically impossible.

Prevention is better than cure. We'll be closer to the bottom 3 than top 4 based on points at the current rate. He's absolutely done at this level, and all the bitching and complaining makes him even more intolerable. How many midfielders does he need to buy with bite considering he himself has brought in 3 of them.

feck off back to Madrid

I predict our future under Mourinho as such;

Arsenal (L)
Fulham (D)
Valencia (D)
Liverpool (L)
Cardiff (W)
Huddersfield (W)
Bournemouth (L)
Newcastle (D)
Reading (D)
Tottenham (L)

We finally sack Jose.

I don't think many are expecting United to beat Arsenal tonight, but lose the next two matches and the sacking could be on the cards.

Can't post in the match thread so I thought I put this here but just an awful lineup. Set up to fail. When will he stop playing Matic? No reason for him to play with the formation tonight. Not very confident about getting a result.

They want him gone for the good of the club, not because they hate him. That’s where we are.

I think we should forget about the nr of points needed to reach top 4. Let’s focus on progress and plan instead. That should be the emphasis on the assessment from the board anyway.

Mourinho has been here for 2,5 years. What has our progress been during that time? How many of our players are better now than they were then and how much better are they? The players who are playing good now are from SAF:s era, mainly Young and De Gea.

How much more exciting is it to watch United play now compared to then? It’s worse IMO.

To be hanging around mid table after 3 transfer windows is no way near acceptable and there is absolutely no plan for how to turn it around. It surely cannot be done with new players. NO PLAYER bought after van Persie has been a success. He’s had three main transfer windows and two January’s. Regardless of what happened this summer, there’s been so much money invested in the team during his reign he cannot complain about more players.

The guy has failed. He has made a career in ways I could only dream about but he has failed at United. The odds that he’s going to turn this around into a winning machine that also plays exciting football is incredibly high.

No I’m not making a prediction because I’m not party to the facts and figures that your board are working on.
If I were to guess I would say end of season but it’s more complex than that.
