That's where I am too. We need the luck to fall our way here and there to stay in the race. They don't.

As long as they're close it's not good. Their performances have worsened but they keep picking points.

You would expect a goalkeeper that cost you £70 million quid to be somewhat competent.

The key will be whether City start prioritising Europe as that competition goes on and start dropping points in the league as a result.

They depend too much on their pressing game and turnovers /transitions for attack/creating chances. For now their midfield lacks the guile needed to create. They could have done with somebody like Kovacic. I don't know if Keita can provide any of that subtlety and clever passing.

You guys are firmly in the title race. I hate Liverpool but you’re a proper side now. You defend well, you can win ugly and you’ve got a GK who isn’t Mignolet and Karius.
City might take their eye off the league to win the CL. Unlikely, because Pep is so driven and demands the best every single game. But there’s always a possibility.
I won’t be happy until City have a 5 point lead at least. And that won’t happen next week because you lot play Bournemouth who don’t know how to sit deep and shut up shop.
edit:- I just checked. City are away at Chelsea next weekend. You both have 3 point bankers midweek (Watford and Burnley?)

If you think Liverpool depend too much on their pressing game I think it's fair to assume you haven't watched them play this season. They have moved away from high energy pressing to a more controlled, defensive game, hence why they are conceding and scoring far fewer goals than last season. Trying to play more possession football has highlighted the weakness of their midfield as none of their players have the guile or play making ability of the City midfield.

Liverpool didn't impress but I wouldn't say that they didn't deserve to win. They were a little bit better overall. City look on another level but you never know given Leicester's title win not long ago. If City win the next 3 games though, it will be almost imposssible to stop them even if there are many games till the end. Liverpool are grinding out results and won't be fresh enough to sustain the challenge. The likes of VVD, Robertson and the front 3 are playing too much.
Napoli are stronger than Everton. If Liverpool play at that level, they'll be out of the CL.

Firstly you are right I haven't watched them much.
Secondly we are both saying the same thing. That their best way of creating is pressing and turnover, which they have moved away from and so are having a difficult time creating chances.
As a Liverpool fan, I have to ask this - how the feck are we still winning games?

Now I can genuinely, fully, appreciate what clean sheets bring to a league campaign.I think part of the reason we're not so great in attack is Klopp tinkering with it too much. Why is Salah playing CF with his back to goal a lot of the times? I prefer him coming from the RW cutting in, creating havoc. He does that better than Mané whose passing is too erratic for him to playmake. Keep Firmino at 9 Mané at LW and Salah RW and allow him more of the ball running at defenders.
Hopefully Keita gets into some form very soon he is a pretty good ball carrier and that should provide a link between front 3 and midfield.

Question for Liverpool fans - what's with Klopp and Lovren?
You have such a talented back 5 now and yet Lovren seems to go straight back in the team and displaces one of them.
That foot race between Mbappe and Lovren had it been against Trent/Gomez/VVD would have been a lot more interesting.
Not to mention some complete car crashes of matches he's had (e.g. Tottenham last season).

He plays Lovren not because Gomez is bad, but because TAA is shaky defensively, so he has to shift Gomez to the right, and then Lovren occupies the CB spot.
I'm not really sure what I fear more - Lovren's brainfarts or TAA caught out of position. I think I'd still prefer TAA
He just has too much faith in certain players. More than they deserve. I'm talking about Henderson and Lovren in particular.
Trent all day. He caused PSG huge problems in the first leg as Neymar was not tracking him. This allowed us to get his quality deliveries from out wide. If you're going to be facing Neymar and Mbappé it doesnt really matter which fullbacks you put out as they will at one time or another be beaten one on one. We would have had Gomez's recovery pace and Trent's deliveries as added weapons, it was imo a huge tactical failure in that match and Klopp does it far too often.
It will be interesting to see how their squad copes with the fixture load over the next month. With the short summer break I'm wondering if all premier league teams might start getting more muscle / fatigue injuries than usual over December.
Firmino's not suited to playing as a no.10 at all. He should be playing up top with Shaqiri behind him and Salah on the right.

I agree with this completely. I'm wondering if Klopp is still struggling to trust Shaqiri with the defensive work that he demands from his central players though? We played brilliantly against Southampton (I think it was them but correct me if I'm wrong) and he still took Shaqiri off as we needed to control the game more. Coutinho and Ox were/are both willing to put in the defensive graft which helped us win the ball higher up the pitch and keep the team a bit more balanced.

I can't see City dropping points at Watford. Even with our more conservative approach this season, we beat them 3-0 away from home. I will be supporting Chelsea come Saturday though. Just hope we beat Bournemouth as that's a tough ground to go to as well
Neither can I, but it's still a tough game. That 3-0 flattered us majorly, although I expect City, if they win by such a scoreline, will have warranted it entirely.

Liverpool will be top by next Monday. Then the gap will creep open. If Liverpool can beat City in January, the title will be in Liverpool's hands. City buckle under pressure. Klopp has played a blinder so far by playing defensive and saving the press game when the clocks go forward.
Keita was very good last night, looked to come into his own. Gomez injury is a worry though ref wasnt protecting the players.

Joe Gomez has a lower leg fracture. Faces up to 6 weeks of recovery time.
Big, big blow for us as that means we will have to play Lovren or Matip next to Van Dijk now during the congested holiday period.
