Joe Gomez has a lower leg fracture. Faces up to 6 weeks of recovery time.

Big, big blow for us as that means we will have to play Lovren or Matip next to Van Dijk now during the congested holiday period.
At least it's "only" 6 weeks this time. Still, losing Gomez before the make-or-break Napoli game is absolutely terrible :(

My feeling is that Liverpool will beat Bournemouth but the game with Napoli won't be successful and they will lose pts vs United or Wolves.

Liverpool will be top by next Monday. Then the gap will creep open. If Liverpool can beat City in January, the title will be in Liverpool's hands. City buckle under pressure. Klopp has played a blinder so far by playing defensive and saving the press game when the clocks go forward.
Can't understand some of the media and pundits keep saying it's a one horse race. City are a good team, but they have struggled in some games this season aswel. 2-1 against Newcastle and Watford. 1-1 against Wolves.

There is nothing to chose between the two keepers and I would take Liverpool's defence over City's all day long.

The midfield favours City, but if Naby Kieta hits form and the Ox is fit in the new year, then they will have two fresh players for the run in.

The forwards are again very similar. Liverpool consistency has been astonishing. I can see them wining every league game up to the City match. By that stage they could be top and then it will get very interesting.

January bid for De Ligt?
Klopp doesnt operate that way. But if he did I'd want us to try for Christiansen from Chelsea. De Ligt will never happen, especially in January.

To be fair I somewhat agree with him and I think many of us are in denial that Liverpool are in a title race with City. City are a different class from them no doubt but 'pool are in with a big shout unfortunately. Consider the following reasons:

1. They have had slightly tougher games compared to City so far yet hey are just 2 points worse
2. They are a level below City but 1-0 wins are all that matters with getting 3 points. Same with 5-0 wins. They are masters at grinding those sort of narrow wins
3. If there is one team you'd back to beat City head to head that team is Liverpool. Whilst City are the favourites, they have a very fair chance.
4. They are very efficient playing most league teams. They have lost zero points against bottom 14 and the season is almost half way gone. They are really good, guys. Even City in their invincibity have lost 2 points against bottom 14.
5. They have a real chance of catching or surpassing City this weekend
6. City have a tendency to show weakness atimes. Who doesn't? However will City's weaknesses be too costly in the title run? Here's what I mean. You have team A that wins 1-0, 1-0, 2-1 and team B does 6-0, 0-1, 5-1. Who goes through? Team A of course. This is quite simplistic but my point is efficiency might prove to be the decider at the end of the day and I hope you get my point.

Dejan Lovren time.
Expect him to show everyone that he is still the greatest defender to ever exist.

But jokes aside Lovren is still better than any CB we currently have. No wonder we concede like mad...
We really need to buy someone with quality this summer if not in january.

They can win it. But City are more likely to do it.

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/soccer-predictions/premier-league/

Personally, I expected City to be 5-7 pts behind Liverpool with KDB being out for 4 months. Yet they are 2 pts clear, KDB is back soon and they host Liverpool at the end of the festive period when they are more likely to be fresh due to their squad depth. If City are not ravaged by injuries, they seem capable of going to 100 pts again if needed.

If Liverpool win it, fair play to them. They will need a lot of luck against a team like this City but that's part of the game.

City haven't had to rely on the luck we have this season. They've won most of their games at a canter whereas we've had a lot of instances of good fortune & the opposition missing good chances. We need to up our game to City's level if we're to be in the mix come next May.

2 horse race now though.

If we say City are 5% better than LFC, all things being equal, there's still a variety of factors could close or (hopefully) widen that gap.

Next big one is Champs Lge progress (or not), I suppose.

And how will Lovren do over the next couple of months?

Liverpool could finish 3rd I fancy Spurs to finish ahead of them if they fail to qualify for champions league next round .

If i said City will walk the league, go undefeated and also win all the cup competitions, will you be asking why Man City is not coming under my user name?

Or as I support Utd, would you like me to say, everyone relax, Mourhino will buy 3 players in January and we will easily finish in the top 3 and also win the Champions league ?

I hate Liverpool mate than anyone, but they have a great chance of winning the league, which I think they will and I'm just stating what I think . Sorry if you have been offended by what I'm thinking.

No because City are actually capable of doing that. I actually do believe that Liverpool have a chance to win the league this year and hence are in a title race. It's just that everything you said was so over the top. Masterclass. Blinder. It was put across in a manner I genuinely would expect from posters on Rawk

That's why we need Liverpool to feck up soon. It's close enough for a few bad City results to swing it.

I think you are wrong. I dont know any Liverpool fan saying they will the league. In Fact no Liverpool fans in the media or ex Liverpool players saying that either. Maybe deep down they want it to happen, like deep down I don't want it to happen. Maybe I need to check out the posters on RAWK.

Kinda funny that they're having their best ever start, completely unbeaten after 15 games but yet still won't win the title

Which, sadly, we cannot be sure of. It's all about probabilities now and they can change in one or another direction with a bad result, injury, scandal or something like that.

An injury to Ederson, for instance, might change the situation dramatically. Or City might be affected by a coming ban from the CL.

Same with Liverpool crashing out of the CL or Salah/VVD getting a serious injury.

As things stand, City are strong favourites but not more.

Oh.. We don't have to go deep down. Of course all Liverpool fans want it to happen. That should be obvious. But like you, I haven't seen any who actually think it's gonna happen this season. City look way too strong, and despite our impressive points tally, we haven't played that well and grinded out quite a few results.

However.. We are still only 2 points after City, and should their form drop off and ours improve, who knows then? I'm not holding my hopes too high, but stranger things have happened in football.

Yep. I'll be glad if City doesn't win this weekend, just a draw would be nice for a change. And then we still need to overcome a difficult away game to get level on points with them again.

It certainly looks like an insurmountable challenge at the moment, especially with Gomez out, our front three still not clicking the way they did last year, and games against United, Arsenal and City within the next month.

tbh I expect City to win comfortably .. maybe 2 or 3 nil.

Both sides play a similar style of possession based football, but City have way better players and far more time under Guardiola than Chelsea have had under Sarri. I think you'd require Hazard to have one of his unplayable games in order for Chelsea to have a chance.

I know it's at Stamford Bridge, but City really don't care about playing away. They've beaten us and Arsenal already away from home (similar level of sides to Chelsea) and only a missed penalty stopped them beating you at Anfield. Chelsea have looked vulnerable lately too, we totally destroyed them at Wembley and should have scored 5 or 6, if they play anything like that against City they'll be fecked in to oblivion.

Anyway, this isn't the Chelsea thread but basically I wouldn't have too much faith in them dropping points, I see that Chelsea side as tailor made for City right now.

I actually feel for you guys a bit .. you've built a very good side (spent money but who doesn't if they want to compete?) but have to contend with the juggernaut that is this City side. You'd have been waltzing to the title in any of the pre-Guardiola years.

It is what it is. Like United under SAF, City have raised the bar (to unseen heights) and we're just following suit. Can't ask more from our team at the moment, we'll see where it brings us by the end of the season. I fully expect to finish 2nd on 80+ points at this point, nothing more and nothing less.

CL is a slightly more worrying story at the moment. Going out in the group stages, no matter how difficult the group is, would be a major disappointment especially because we threw it away by losing in Belgrade (not good enough) and Napoli (our minds were already on City during that game).

With 5 games to go, maybe. But with 23? No chance. City can afford to slip up several times as we won't keep this momentum up. If we finish second, we'll be closer to 3rd than 1st.

We just have to focus on the next game as they come. Keita could be a huge factor in the next few months.

Liverpool had made the best ever start in the club's history and on course for 98 points - that is incredible.

Was excellent against Burnley. If he keeps it up, he'll be a force in midfield.

Now for Fabinho to show he's up to the pace and we take straight wins through December

It's staggering - Pep is turning it into Barcelona territory here isn't he? Remember Madrid would often be on 90 odd points and finish second?
But la liga is so much weaker than the Premier league etc

That was always such a load of unsubstantiated nonsense.

Anybody who thinks those Barcelona sides wouldn't have been smashing Premier League sides left right and centre was a total idiot. We were able to beat sides like Wigan 9-1 with Palacios and Huddlestone, the likes of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta would have been in fecking dreamland.

This City side is going to dominate for years. I don't even think it ends with Pep, because the club seems to excel at long term planning. They had been putting the structure in place for Pep's arrival for years, they're definitely planning for life after he leaves and they have plenty of young talent.

I have just never seen it with Fabinho, even at Monaco. Others raved about him and I just saw a tidy midfielder but lacking any kind of wow factor .. but then I guess his job isn't to dazzle.

Keita on the other hand I thought was going to be immense at you having watched him quite a few times at Leipzig. Just saw him as a perfect Klopp player, tons of energy and drive with genuine technical quality. Hasn't quite worked out that way for you thus far, but if he does come to life then you'll be a scary prospect.

This is something I don't believe in. It certainly looks and feels like it right now but there's reason it has never happened and the most consecutive titles is still "only" 3. In other sports, this is true as well - the Warriors looked unstoppable only one or two years ago and now it looks like from next year on the league will be very competitive again. Things change so quickly, players might not adopt the new manager's style, an exodus of players who hit 30+, one or two key injuries, and most of all: complacency.

I don't think this City side will win 4 titles in a row.
