They were like this last season too. Ronaldo had scored 4 league goals up until Christmas and Madrid were trailing Barca by 11 points, having lost the Clasico 0-3 at home as well. They only turned it on in about 3 CL games, got dominated in the others (still somehow won due to opponents gifting goals left and right). Zidane did an incredible job as a Voodoo Shaman.
They were better than this last year, they deservedly went through vs PSG and Juventus in the Champions League. Were the better team in the final too.

That was arguably the toughest draw out of any CL winner ever, it's not like they scraped through vs poor teams.

People will call it luck but their mentality has been their strongest point in the past 3 years. Even if Salah doesn't get injured, Karius doesn't gift them 2 goals or if Bayern had scored one of the many chances, they would have still found a way through nevertheless.

They were gifted 4 goals in the CL semis + final and gifted a last minute penalty in the 93rd minute while losing 0-3 at home in the quarters. They were mostly hanging on and somehow got through inexplicably. So basically this was coming (especially with VAR, wouldn't have lost the Clasico 1-5 without it, if the ref doesn't give the penalty without VAR, Madrid equalize 1-1 and the game is very different).

I'm not particularly worried right now honestly. Check back in February

Something is going on with him.Surely tonight there will be "exclusives"
A)he is fat and out of form
B)personal problems with team mates/coach
C)Simply Solari is not a fan
It could be a question of meritocracy but It should be more culprits

I slightly disagree. This RM side is clearly weaker than they were last season.
It was obvious they were showing real signs of decline but this year they took it to the next level.

2017 until 25th November

La Liga
8 wins / 3 draws / 2 losses
26 GF / 9 GA (+17)
4th Place

Champions League (same group as Tottenham, Dortmund and APOEL)
4 wins / 1 draw / 1 loss
17 GS / 7 GA (+10)
2º Place

Total GF/GA -
43/16 (+27)

-------------------------------------------------

La Liga 2018

6 wins / 2 draws / 5 losses
20 GF / 19 GA (+1)
6th Place

Champions League 2018 (Roma, CSKA and Plzen)
4 wins / 0 draws / 1 loss
12 GF / 2 GA (+10)
1o Place

Total GF/GA -
32/21 (+11)

Overall they are scoring less and suffering more by a significant margin.
This year they have a much weaker group in the CL and their GD is the same it was last year when they were facing the likes of Dortmund and Tottenham.

Last year they were still one of favourite sides to win the CL, this year I can't even see them reach the finals. There are atleast 3 or 4 sides clearly above them.

They've handled the departure of Zidane and Ronaldo terribly both of whom got out at the right time. No goalscorers signed. No shakeup of the squad. Average /inexperienced managers who apparently aren't the next Zidane (what a shock!). On paper they're still very good bit things like this wear a squad down.

It's funny that many people talk and joke about this.

I completely agree with your post. The last 2 CL Madrid won them with a lot of luck, the last one was a miracle.

Since Solari took charge: 6 wins and 1 defeat. Not the strongest rivals but those were the ones giving Madrid trouble before, so it's been a good change nonetheless.

The majority of winning teams have some luck at some point, but the 2017 team was clearly the best side in the competition. You don't score 4 vs the strongest defensive team in Europe in a CL final with "luck".

Why on earth would Mourinho be an option for Madrid after his last stint there? Not to mention he has failed miserably ever since.

Wasn't Ramos one of the players Jose fell-out with? Maybe Ed should try for a Jose-Ramos trade in the summer; I don't care how much we pay him or how bad he would play, it'd still be worth it for the game at Anfield alone

He won the league with Chelsea two seasons later. Hardly failed miserably.

Well, that’s one way of looking at it. Another is that he fell out with the last three dressing rooms he managed, including Real’s. If I was Perez I wouldn’t consider him as an option.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

From most reports Perez himself was a fan of his. And of the players he fell out with, I think only Ramos is still there.

Not that I expect it to happen though.

Ramos is 33 next season, Modric will be 34, you could maybe see a big turnover of top class players if they don't win the league this season, alongwith a change in management. I could see Jose going there under the remit here's a shit ton of money, win the league and then feck off within 3 seasons. I don't know how successful it would be and if I were a Real fan I certainly wouldn't want it.

Why the heck would Madrid want him back? With him they witnessed Barca's growth and how they got spanked year after year. When Ancelotti came, he restore order somehow.

This question has been asked a few times too many.

1. Mourinho won a La Liga title when up against one of the GOAT club sides
2. Before Mourinho Real had not progressed past the first knockout round in the CL since 2004. With him they reached three SFs in a row and won the year after he left.
3. Perez is known to be a fan.

He won 1 la liga. Look at Madrid's record after him and before him. There's no justifying he did a good job. He got humiliated too many times agianst Barca. He played Pepe as a center midfielder, played the most negative football in Madrid's history.

Didn’t Real sack Capello, because of his defensive style even though he had just won them La Liga?

I mean, if there has ever been a club that won’t make compromise with their style it’s Madrid.
