Don't worry. Nothing is more humiliating than going out to Sevilla like last season.
Given our sorry state of defensive football this season, if we try to go for a 0-0 in Paris, we ll lose 3-0 or more and come back. At least last season, we were doing well defensively.

Great Post.!

Eric the King, disagreed with mourinhos appointment.

I disagreed, it was obvious he was a bad choice.

No longevity.
Negative anti football.
Disgraceful record as a person, the way he treated the lady doctor, poking a coach in the eye from behind, etc etc.

Wayne Rooney, said he thought things were going in the right direction under LVG and we would of improved, in the third season.
Apparently LVG had changed everything at the club from top to bottom. His possession style may have been boring but his philosophy was identical to Pepe Guardiolas. At least we were developing a playing style, instead of being Stoke City lookalikes.
All because Jose has been terrible, lets not go romanticizing LVG's tenure.
LVG did some good things with the club but his style of play especially towards the end was dull, listless and could put you to sleep. He had to go.

Agree.
LVG put a bullet in his own foot.

That Castles article looks little more than a thinly veiled attempt at absolving Mourinho of all blame (quelle surprise). It wouldn't surprise me if the £24m figure was completely fabricated.

Jose is an embarrassment. He talks about inheriting a weak squad, forgetting that the only success he’s managed at our club is with the squad he inherited from Lvg. Sure Mikhi & Pogba scored in the Europa League final but where are they now? One who is a virus and the other shipped out. Add Baily to not being in favour. Zlatan has been the only successful player he brought in. Luckily for Zlatan, he got injured and had to move away, otherwise Jose would have turned the fans against him too!

Yup, way too much revisionism on here lately regarding LvG’s tenure which was thoroughly shite.
I blame it on short term memories. If someone asks me Moyes vs LvG 2nd season, I would struggle. Moyes memories have been almost wiped out. Just the occasional startle and a heart pain I feel when someone talks about Moyes "era"

The clubs official Twitter account has been surprisingly inactive today, I wonder if that is at all relevant.

Or am I clutching at straws?

Clutching at straws at this point. All the replies are about sacking Mournhio or something negative about the club, so they're tweeting less.

Given the thousands of leaks we have at the club, any news will be out much before the club would announce anything.
That's a good point as it happens.

The way the club handled LVG's sacking was a disgrace. I'm hoping they act with a little more decorum this time around.

Articles are coming thick and fast aren't they, smearing the club's image/brand for all to see...…..hopefully the sponsors and shareholders start putting a bit of uncomfortable questioning Woodward's way. Might speed up the process.

I highly doubt that if we miss out on the CL it will still cost £18m to sack him at that point. Surely we would have learnt from Moyes and LVG.

If it is true he'll be here until the end of his contract. £18m is almost a full year's profit for us.

I really hope so. At this point, the board have no reason whatsoever to keep this guy in charge. He has created a horrible atmosphere at the club and even if performances don't immediately improve, the atmosphere surely will. I can't deal with a manager that wants to fight everyone, especially his own players. That's another reason I absolutely do not want Conte at this club, another volatile character - his meltdown at Jose last season was just ridiculous.

No, he would not be here.
If they sack Jose now, it will cost a large sum of money.
If they sack him when CL qualification for next year is impossible, then it's cheaper.
The board are waiting till CL qualification for next year is impossible. As soon as this happens, Jose will most likely be given his marching orders. If the next manager prefers to start in the Summer, then Jose will stay till then.

It would appear that some fans on this forum still have not learned the way our board function. It's all about money. If you can save £15M and get crap results on the pitch, they'll take that option.
If we don't make CL we will lose more money than Jose pay out.

I think Mourinho has driven United into a cul de sac and doesn't know how to find reverse. United post 2013 feels eerily like Liverpool post 1990. Souness in trying to rebuild Dalglish ageing first 11 replaced established stars with markedly inferior players. I feel this has been the case at OT since 2013. The one player who would walk into every over EPL team is De Gea and he pre-dates 2013. This is after United have spent 670 million since 2013. This is a damning indictment of United's transfers since 2013. Klopp took over in October 2015. He used the remainder of the season to assess what he inherited. He then from 2016 went about rebuilding his first 11. 2016 saw Mane and Wijnaldum come in, 2017 saw Salah and Robertson, 2018 saw Van Dijk, and Alisson. We struggled for goals in 2015/16. He brought in Mane towards remedying this shortfall. He added further firepower in 2017 with Salah. 2016/17 confirmed we were short defensively. He went and got Robertson and Van Dijk in 2018 Jan. He realised that Karius was not going to measure up and brought in Alisson. Sure Alisson slipped up for United's goal but he is still a major upgrade on Mignolet and Karius. Robertson is streets ahead of Moreno. Shaqiri bought in 2018 is already looking a shrewd signing.
Now this is a United forum and I've just gone on and on about Liverpool. Ultimately my point was to show a season on season improvement in the team. To show that Klopp has shown he has a plan to improve the side on a continual basis. From being defensively ropey when he took charge we now have the best defence in the league. He has has to curtail our attacking to do so but it's lead to a better balanced side. Yes he has won nothing but as a team we are markedly better than what he inherited.
Mourinho has won trophies and he deserves credit for that. He has been in the job the same time as Klopp is you go by full seasons. But you are no further down the line as a side than from the day he took the job. I don't see season on season progression in terms of the development of the side he inherited. I don't see where he is going in terms of evolving the first team line up.

2016-2018

Mourinho spent 359m took in 79m
Klopp spent 410m took in 227m

If a new manager came in now it would give him time to assess the squad. The success or failure of any new manager, if/when he is appointed, will depend on recruitment.

No, he wasn't! He was always a divisive choice. Many of us (including myself already have been anti-Maureen from the start).
Not everybody of course. But if you go back to comments and posts on Cafe and even other Man Utd fan forums at the time of his appointment you will find overwhelming support for the appointment. But of course with the bad results and in hindsight many people are now condemning the appointment. I can understand people changing their minds about Jose now, but to say he was always a bad choice is imo dishonest.
Anyone know how much we are going to pay Mou if we fire him?
I was listening to TalkSport this evening, they said if he is fired now it's £24m, if he goes next summer it will be £18m. If true, it's much higher than I thought, and probably explains the club's hesitation to go that route.

£24 is worth it imo. I read somewhere that its less than that in 2019, so he might survive december if true.

To think the payoff was doubled because of that incredibly naive extension. I can't even..

Not interested in how much a pay off will cost the club, the Glalzers spunk money around for cash on dross so for once let them spend money and see a result.....................that result being the removal of jose Mourhino from his managers seat. The club is far too big for him, his tactics are outdated, his forward planning is piss poor and his transfer buys have been pathetic.
Tara Jose and take Lukaku, Darmian, Jones, Pogba, Young, Smnalling, Rojo, Bailly and Fred with you. All poor players who wouldn't make my local pubs ladies 2nd team, absolute shocking.
Appoint Pocchetino before Christmas and let him rebuild United to be a force once more. Feel sorry for SAF having to watch this tripe week in week out but he is partly to blame for bringing in custard teeth Moyes who had won naff all in football.
