Other than the lunging challenge that deflected the ball past his own keeper which was a mistake, which other mistakes did Bailly make? Lindelof had the one where he lost the ball right in front of defense too. So I can only remember 1 from each specifically
Do you not remember when he followed Firmino for like 50 yards and lost him at the halfway line, after which Liverpool countered and scored on the following set piece?

Bailly can't head the ball and he is way too rash and even if it works 2/3 times he still concedes a crazy high number of chances. He needs to be way more careful when defending if he wants to make it a top club.

He is physically impressive and is very brave but his decision making and some of his technical abilities are shocking at times.

Developing nicely, even more impressive considering it's his first game since returning from injury.

Did OK but does not inspire confidence. He doesn't clear the ball properly very often which ends up inviting more pressure on to us. Almost every defensive action he does it feels like he is just about lucky to get away with.

Weak ass defender. Didnt deserve to start ahead of Bailly who had a better game.
Wrong, they did quite equal efforts today but Lindelof seemed more stable and in addition, he communicates with the rest of the team. I hardly think I saw Bailly say a word on the plan.

Bailly will probably end up like Nani did for us but as a defender obviously. His physical attributes are damn near perfect for his position and his unpredictability is both a gift and a curse for him. It makes him fantastic in certain moments, but leaves him empty for ideas when the point is to maintain instead of gaining. If he could learn to be consistent he could be a damn near world-class player.

Can't say the same for Lindelof who not only has physical limitations for his position, he is as unspectacular as a CB can get both defensively and offensively.

Done ok

Improved a lot since his early days
We have limitations in defense but we set up to rely on them constantly, exposing our weakness

I also think this season Matic is offering zero protection

Any CB needs some sort of protection and United is not getting it. They will not get it as long as Matic plays in front of them. Lidelof had a decent game and any player needs to play regularly together to form a partnership. Jose's constant chopping and changing is not going to benefit anyone.

Heard it was his 12th defence formation this season. And we got 13 in second half. Not easy for the defenders.

Think once we get a commanding CB Lindelof will be their partner.

He has his weaknesses, but he’s improving and his strengths are obvious. I also really like his attitude.

That’s the issue to me with our squad, out of Smalling, Lindelof, Bailly, Jones and Rojo, none of them can lead a defence. Bailly and Lindelof are younger and less experience so can let them off to a degree.

Look how much better Liverpools defenders looked when they got VvD in. Lovren doesn’t look anywhere near as much of a liability, and Gomez is excelling.

Lindelof sits deeper than Smalling via average position, so thats completely false
That’s because smalling will go and try to win headers higher up the pitch. Lindelof likes to let them drop and then try to win it. He gives me the heebie jeebies when he plays

That and people making runs in behind Lindelof which he tracks back to deal with regularly

I'm a harsh critic of Lindelof but ,all things considered,I thought he had a ok game yesterday, more so in the 1st half.
Baily also had a decent showing ,even if he still does some daft stuff and his body positions at times is awkward on the eye.

Edit.
I may add that last night showed that we do actaully have the makings of a good central defence IF we bring in that one outstanding individual that will neatly fit things together.

Smalling,Baily,Lindelof,Axel and (speculative) Koulibaly would be a great base to build from.

Bin Rojo and Jones,please.

None of our defenders are going to look consistently good for us when formations keep changing week after week.

However thought Lindelof did well all things considering. Think we can all see the makings off a good defender.

In a really poor season, he seems to be growing in stature. Think he needs a stable partner with him though to form an understanding.
It would be good, he talks and gesticulates significantly more than the others seem to do and it seems that he tries to lead the defense himself. Guess that it is difficult when he is quite young and still has relatively low status in the team.

This guy can play, looked very aggressive and his passing was very good. Carried the ball forward many times too. Looks completely different player.

Finally. He looked absolutely Rolls-Royce out there.

Our other CBs should be competing for the LCB spot.

Man of the match. I'd written him off, but that was a great performance.

Automatic starter. Lindelof +1, he's our best with building from the back.

Flawless ball playing CB from him today, flawless, my pick for MOTM.

Gave him MotM because it's so long since I've seen a defender of ours drive forward like that and also play quick balls into the feet of the forwards

Only Cardiff but very encouraging.

Can't believe my eyes... Is he the real Lindelof?? He's like van Dijk there.
So complete defender.

Excellent today. Brought the ball out brilliantly. When we score 5 I guess an attacker has to get MOM but I don’t think anyone performed better than Lindelof.

The ball playing cb who everyone said we needed. Was absolutely brilliant today. My motm.

Just makes such a difference when our defenders carry the ball forward. The whole team moves forward . He even tried a long through ball to rashford which just missed. More of the same victor

One great piece of play bringing the ball forward and one or two other decent ones. Jones did the majority of the defending and Lindelof did have 1 moment where he tried to play his attacker offside on the halfway line and it led to Zohore getting an attempt on goal that De Gea had to deal with.

He also played 8 long balls with 1 finding their target. So he ended up with the lowest passing percentage of our outfield players with 76.6%

Some were fine for players to chase after, some others werent so good.
