Luckhurst is just a fanboi spouting opinionated nonsense the majority of the time. Valencia probably shouldn't be captain but the right back slot is completely up for grabs until we find better.

He's been a good servant to the club but it's time for him to go. He's an absolute liability within the context of our new system.

He's done for at this level.

Should do a Garry Neville and disappear till end of the season before retiring.

The sudden defensive view for him here since Ole's presser for Bournemouth game was funny and unrealistic.

He's done for. The sheer size of him. No condition to play for at the top level anymore.

Like playing with 10 men all evening. He was never good enough, but now he's just embarrassing. Hopefully thats his token appearance out of the way.

fecking hell he's just come back from a long time out of the side. He hardly let us down despite not offering much to our play, and he was clearly instructed to prevent Ritchie's crosses which he generally did. We've just kept a clean sheet and he defended okay. He's not the only player that needs upgrading but he seems to get undue stick for such a reliable and loyal servant to the club.

Looks badly out of shape. Surprised at him, was always considered a good pro, he bulked up with muscle over the last few years but, it doesn't look like just muscle any longer, fatter arse than Shaw and Lukaku.

I have been a big fan of his for a long time. He's not good enough anymore. He plays like an AI fifa guy.

Was thinking that myself. The entire match our right flank was missing because he was sat back walking in line with our center backs. There were times we were attacking and you see him walking back to our goal.

He's finished. He looked dire tonight and a lot of our players had to cover for him which ruined our shape. He was lucky to last a full game.
I recall a few things specifically

  • He never roamed forward for fear he'd get caught. Ran from their third to the halfway line to get back in line with Lindelof when we were camped at their box
  • Herrera put a shift in RB at times in the first half to make up for his deficiencies
  • Our CBs were further apart than needbe as we had to cover the space he was leaving behind
  • He never made any real passes forward, just small 10 yard passes to a near player, never a 1-2 though. I don't recall seeing him crossing it
  • Mata was in RW, but drifted centrally and even to the left to get on the ball (different issue but is accentuated as Valencia was never there to give him an option. Cowardly to say the least.
  • As soon as we made the Sanchez and Lukaku subs we looked far better as a unit. I couldn't see it very well, but I think we stacked more people in the right to help him as he was lost.
Sadly, he looks done. He's 33, so it's not unexpected. I know he's meant to be more solid and experience than Dalot, but I don't see the benefit anymore.

That was one of the poorest performances I've seen by our full backs. He barely crossed the line and didn't make one cross/take a man on in 90 minutes. Awful, he's done.

He's clearly being used as little as possible and seeing as we got a clean sheet it's really no big deal. Don't understand the reactions.
We only really ticked once we made subs. We won today and with not a lot of effort, but it's something we need to address as he's clearly a massive weak link in the team. You know it's bad when we're stuck with a cowardly 33 year old paceless one-footed speed-merchant, and a young RB who hasn't got the experience yet to play away vs Newcastle (jury is out still).

What has happened, Tony?

It looks to me like his enjoyment of the game has been sucked out of him. Was hoping he'd show some of his trademark aggression and workrate now that harmony is restored at the club but he played with such little enthusiasm.

Couldn't even blame it on his bad conditioning tonight, he just didn't even try to integrate himself with the new system.

He looked like he had never played football before.

I don't want to criticise him because hes one of my favourite United players ever and has been a great servant. But I don't think it would be worthwhile to renew the contract.

Absolutely hate when he defends with this hands behind the back. Wtf is that about? How can you move freely when you handcuff yourself?

Great guy, I was even contemplating buying the 2011 shirt with his name. That said we desperately need to move on. Him and Mata were quite poor again.

Might as well put a big bin at right back the lads can just bounce the ball off.

Sticks out badly as a crap footballer in this new United that's actually trying to play football.

Time to retire or move on.

Because it could not have been a clean sheet and his forward penetration was awful, as was his backwards or side passing. We simply shouldn't be playing players like him as he would not get in any of the other top current 6 squads. Simple as.

It's one of the positions we should go big for in the summer for sure. Dalot doesn't look ready to me and Young is only going to decline. I'm just saying it's a bit of an over reaction for one game in which we got a clean sheet, he probably won't play for ages now anyway.

Anyone questioning why fans don't want him in the team should watch this game.

It's nothing personal, but he's just not as good as he used to be. It happens to everyone.

Hopefully his last game for us. Been a great servant and utility player for us, but it's pretty obvious that his body has gone and his physical dominance was all he ever really had.

I'm not for jumping on players and shouting for them be sold immediately. I really think as fans we shoukd be better than that. Based on today's game I'd say he's likely to get less and less game time.
I understand he's just regaining fitness and working to get back match sharpness but there were times today he looked a little lost. I'm glad we have cover in Young (who's performed pretty well this season and I prefer when he plays RB instead of LB) and Dalot (who is still raw and perhaps has questions marks over his defensive duties/positioning but looks exciting going forward).
