So, this was a film that came out a couple of years ago and was absolutely hilarious.

Two gobshites from Cork in Ireland go on an adventure. Heartwarmingly funny.

Anyway, the BBC have now turned it into a TV series, which started on Thursday just gone on BBC Three and iPlayer (On Irish tv soon).

Guaranteed a laugh.

Been jonesing for this for a while. Big fan of the movie. Livid when I realised that you can't watch BBC3 on a sky box in Ireland. FFS. When/what channel is it on in Ireland?

Pretty sure it starts tonight on RTÉ2.

I thought last night's episode was very good. The two lads are great, as is the mother. Enjoyed it a lot. They borrowed a bit from the film, to introduce the characters, and it looks to be set as if the events of the film never happened, but I'll definitely be tuning in next week.

Caught the last of an episode a couple of weeks ago and thought it was “people just do nothing” which just didn’t click with me so I was in defensive “this’ll be shit” mode but it had me laughing out loud within the first minute.

Just watching it now and it’s brilliant, the chemistry is on point and it feels really fresh. Think it’s hitting the spot like Thr Inbetweeners did.

I really liked that film, especially the bonkers dude chasing them down for his coke.

Have to admit to my shame though I had to watch it with subtitles on for the most part :D the woman who played the shorter guys mum was strangely attractive as well, not conventionally pretty but I couldn't take my eyes off her when she was on screen.

How good was that third episode?

Equal parts funny and extremely poignant. Loved it.

Yeah, that took a bit of getting used to. Did you notice that the actor who played the psycho with the nail gun in the movie is playing their headmaster in this series?

Yeah. PJ Gallagher. I'm glad they found a role for him because he's decent. But it wouldn't have made sense if he was playing the same character as he did in the film. Didn't see this week's episode yet. I'll have a look tonight.

I too saw the movie on netflix and thought that there is no way many others would give it a look. It's ace and now thanks to this thread I saw the show and it's equally as good. I am a sucker for stuff like this and trailer park boys :D

Series finale yesterday was the best of the lot. Billy needs a series of his own

Glad to see so many enjoying it. The 2 boys are magic together. In fairness, they've done a great job with the casting.

It’s really good. I enjoyed the film, but the series is a step up. Each ep has some kind of emotional pay off that I usually hate in comedies, but which somehow works really well here.

The two lads are so good that I assumed when watching the film that they were some established double act, that had been given their own movie to piss about. I didn’t consider that they’d just been randomly cast. They seem like they’ve been working together for years.

The emotional stuff is almost laid on too thick but they get away with it somehow. Not sure if it’s the writing or the acting but they get away with schmaltz that would usually make my toes curl. The graveside scene could have been horrendous (U2 ffs!) but it was genuinely moving.

The chemistry is incredible. The bit where his mum asks him if he’s gay and he says no but if he was he’d want it to be with Jock had me in stitches.

There’s a Christmas special on iPlayer.

Haven’t watched it yet, but I’m glad it’s been perceived as good enough to get one. It was a low key jem of a film, an an equally stealth jem of a TV show.

It’s also apparently got Robert Sheenan, of Misfits (and left Misfits too early under the presumption he’d get really famous, but then kinda didn’t) fame. Which is also good.

Really enjoyed both the film and tv series.

I am also somewhat transfixed by Hilary Rose

Bad news. I thought it was dreadful. Very disappointing.

Also. Gem not jem.

Thanks for the heads up on the Xmas special.

This show is criminally unknown, the BBC should push the show it a bit more as it could be as popular as stuff like the Inbetweeners if it picked up a few more viewers.

My missus loves this and we watched a few episodes last night. It's far better than i thought it was going to be tbh with some real laugh out loud moments.
Didn't know there was a film 1st of all, have to have a look for it.

It'll be a little strange watching the film afterwards as some of the series carried on some storylines and some characters/actors are different i the film, but I'm sure you'll still enjoy as it's just as funny.

Wouldn't go as far as Inbetweeners but it is funny.

You could be right.

I have seen people debating what's best between Friday Night Dinner and Inbetweeners before, though, and even though I also love FND, I'd say it is funnier than that.

It certainly has more potential than it has currently reached.
