Nothing else will do really. Smalling over Darmian if fit and maybe Sanchez over Lingard but given his fitness I doubt that's a goer. If Mata and Valencia start on the right wing again I won't even bother watching the slaughter

Swap places between Lindelöf and Darmian and I'm with you.

Your advantage in this game is the fact that we have a tough League Cup SF 1st leg against Chelsea beforehand, which is what happens when competing on 4 different fronts.

This will be Son's last game before he departs for the Asian Cup, so I'm hoping he wants go out with a bang.
You have 4 complete days rest before the game, don't think any of Spurs players will be tired.

Actually really looking forward to this one either way. Nice subplot with the manager situation. We have nothing to lose as such at present and going to Spurs and losing could have happened this season even if we were equally chasing the title or top 4.
The games for me for the rest of this season are all about the nature of the performances, the style of football and how the so called 'big players' turn up.

Also, bit of a stretch to describe what Spurs were doing in the CL group stages as "competing"

    I want to see;

    DDG
    Young Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Herrera Matic
    Lingard Pogba Martial
    Rashford

Lets go at them, give them something to worry about. Spurs are currently a good side and people sit off them fearful of the attack. We should be respectful to their attack but lets keep the ball, transition fast and attack them regularly. Don't give them a chance to get comfortable.

Our best defence is our attack.

You qualified thanks to Barca not being arsed about the last game and Inter ballsing up at home.

Hardly something to shout about is it?
No, but nor is it not competing. We beat Inter and PSV at home and drew to Barca away. We also completely outplayed Inter and PSV away and were very unfortunate to only come away with one point from those two games.

We weren't great at all, but we did compete in the group. Not competing would have been 16/17 where we went in to the EL having only been capable of beating CSKA.

Regardless, it's still an advantage to have several days additional rest, not to mention the risk of injuries that each additional game brings for Spurs.

Yes, it should be our strongest 11.

And I hope Ole uses the days in Dubai well because I'm a little worried if all our players are able to run and keep their focus up to the final signal. In fact, I don't think everyone has shown that they are capable of doing so yet.

If we win comfortably, it's of course not necessary, but it would surprise me if it's not needed against Spurs. Therefore, I want to see everyone fight the whole game and get so tired that they almost have to be carried out.

This looks correct to me. Smalling has generally done well against Kane so I think it's important he's back to handle him, and Lindelof to sweep up next to him.

One league cup. Though i'd have to check if it actually had slipped to 11 years old territory now.

and bringing on your best player when 6-0 up which could risk injury.

Agreed however, we are at an advantage with the rest.

Liverpool fans are the same. We’ve won more in the past 3 years of our joke era than Spurs and Liverpool have COMBINED in the last 12 years.

Our best result in these fixtures (Spurs away) in recent history is a 0-0 under LvG I think. Now they are in the form of their life, it's going to be difficult.

I hope Ole picks the obvious XI that's staring everybody in the face without throwing any curveballs like Valencia instead of Young. We need to press and run like our lives depend on it to stand a chance of winning this game.

It would have been nice to have a fit Smalling for this. He normally handles Kane well.

So excited, ill be in with the Spurs fans so lets see how I handle that. Will probably do the whole punch air in frustration when we score.

    2-0 to us.

Fun fact I've only ever see french players score for us in 3 matches so make of that what you will...

Getting in the excuses early are we? :D
No, just citing it as a relevant factor.

But I suppose another way of looking at it is that maybe we'll be battle-hardened and more match fit after having just played a strong team (Chelsea) and you'll be all soft and zoned out from soaking up the sun in Dubai.

Anyhow, I expect us to beat you and think we will.

This game will be a proper test and, given our rediscovery of attacking football, could be a classic. I'd be content with a draw, but this really does look like one of those 'all results possible' games.

The home game that we lost 3-0 could have been very different if we'd taken our chances in the first half in which we were the better side.

I think Ole has seen enough to know his best side now, and the only question marks for me are over who will be the central defenders. I would be happy to see Darmian in there, though that may leave us vulnerable in the air.

Agree with all of this. It's only the 2nd CB that is a question mark, bar injuries. Except the white text!

Went last year, and it was a horrendous experience! Signed up as a member last year, so probably seen more spurs matches in the last year, than the spurs fans on this forum! Hopefully the result will be better, and you will have a good time. It's always bad if your with the opposition fans and you lose.

There were loads of Utd fans there last year, I haven't checked, but tickets went on general sale last year, there will be lots of other people not cheering if spurs score.

If Smalling is fit, he should start. One of Alexis/Lukaku to start with Rashford and Martial in the front 3. Let them interchange, and we have a chance.

I am surprised that posters here think Smalling would be brought straight back to starting lineup for this. He's no way going to be match fit. Imagine the backlash here if he makes a mistake due to the rustiness.

Jones is literally an accident waiting to happen. Granted Smalling isn't the most reliable centre-back on the planet but he is certainly more so than Jones.

Smalling and Lindelof are our most competent centre-back pairing as of this moment, which isn't saying a great deal considering the competition.

I agree with that. I am just not sure if he will actually be match-fit to start even if he's recovered from his injury.

Its my first time ever at Wembley so I'll enjoy it no matter what happens. No one would ever attack me or anything if I slip a cheer or anything right?

I really want Smalling to play this one but he did not play any games for weeks now and also got destroyed by Lucas Moura at OT.

    No not at all!

A few years ago I went to watch West Ham Vs Everton @ Upton Park (as a complete neutral) and was in with the West Ham fans, Lukuka heads in the winner for 2-3 Everton, and my other half got somwhat carried away, jumping up and shouting "get in". We got some nasty looks, but nothing more. So no, no issues at all at Wembley.

It's a great stadium, pain in the arse to drink beforehand or at half time - the bars are rammed. Have a great time.

So now Poch is asking his players to break our legs or maybe Chelsea player legs in EFL cup? He wants a repeat of that Chelsea game.
As if there wasn't enough diving and dirty football already
Why say that to the media? Surely that's something which you should say in private to your players?

Shouldn't he just be saying we are going to try and beat them at football rather than playing naughty?
