Strongly believe that Carrick is the correct answer.

Tbh I'm probably only saying this because I had a soft spot for him but I'm gonna put forward the quickly forgotten (imo) Louis Saha.

It’s carrick for me.

Although I’ve often wondered why Charlie Austin didn’t get more love after that season he had with qpr in 14/15. Getting fourth top goal scorer with 18 goals in that dog shit qpr team was quite the accomplishment. Yet all anyone talked about was Harry Kane. Often wondered what would he be like in a better squad.

I always used to think Xabi Alonso was somewhat underrated in the Premier League whilst he was at Liverpool... probably because Steven Gerrard was front and centre of everything Liverpool at the time.

A rolls royce player who can pretty much do everything.

Vardy(how the hell is he still at LCFC). Nani and Robbie Keane, Defoe, Given, Duff, Bruce and I hate to say it....Milner.

I've had too many Liverpool fans try to convince me multiple times that he was a God of a footballer who was superior to Scholes, Lamps and even their beloved Gerrard, so I refuse to consider him for this!

Benitez definitely underrated him when he tried to flog him for Gareth fecking Barry.

Carrick, it was ridiculous how many years it took a lot of United fans to come round to him. Was the comparisons to Roy Keane I guess and he Carrick was ahead of his time in terms of how he played the game.

Got to be Xabi Alonso / Javier Mascherano for me. Both are modern day legends but didn’t get the recognition they deserved until they left our league.

Gerrard was a great, great player but his life was made easier having those 2 behind him!

Oh god, I forgot all about that madness

And I echo the sentiments to Louis Saha too. I remember him being very, very good for Fulham and was quite excited when he joined Utd. It's a shame his knees let him down because he was an absolute machine... left foot, right foot, head, pace and strength all wrapped into a human.

I have a uni mate who's an avid WBA fan and season ticket holder, and told me that Saha was one of the best opposing players he's seen in person at the Hawthorns.

Always thought Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink never gets the props he deserves, he was a cracking player in the early 2000s.

Saha had all the attributes to be a great striker yet injuries and consistency infront of goal was his downfall at times.
I remember us playing Burton in a FA Cup game at home and Saha honestly could've finished the game with 5 goals but his composure that night was absolutely tragic.

Though I've always maintained that Saha scored one of the biggest goals in the clubs recent history with his winner away to Benfica in 07.That set a precedent that United finally meant business in Europe, arguably domestically too in a period where Chelsea looked set to dominant English football.

Ian Wright and Les Ferdinand. Considering they were both excellent for 5 seasons they don't get much credit.

Did it really take that long though? He performed brilliantly in his first season with Scholes. After that season his form was very up and down especially at the start of seasons where he would find himself heavily rotated. He was more appreciated as the years got on but his performances improved with his peak possibly being around 2012/13. He wasn’t performing at that level from the moment he signed it was a natural progression. Probably why people think he was underrated. Definitely underrated for the England national team during his whole career though.
