The post you quoted is.one of the worst I've seen in a long time.
Rather than just make such a statement, why not ellaborate and explain. This is a discussion forum, and that is my opinion.

Who would you pick across the front three ahead of Rashford on current form?

I just find it a bit rich when they criticise us for Rashford, yet you barely hear anything from the same pundits about Sancho and Hudson-Odoi.
Sancho has already left for the games time. What's there to complain about? And CHO hasn't done anything yet, why would he be conpareable to an England international? They look at who is on the England team. They don't give a shit about a youth player. They also aren't complaining about Angel not playing.

Thanks @K2K

I'm agreeing with you. Firstly the comments about Rashford, and also for blaming Andy Cole for Eric Cantona retiring!

Not only that, but they want Rashford to play as a striker every week. Which is fine, but then they will talk about his England prospects being affected by staying here, when if they get what they want he's out playing as a striker for a midtable team and then competing with Kane for an England place. How does that help him? England get more use out of him playing off Kane rather than right up front. Which is something he's been learning to do here when playing on the wings.

None of the media complaints make much sense.

No, he really wasn't.
Not sure i understand your chain of thought here.

""I just feel for people like Marcus Rashford. They go down the pecking order and he's probably thinking where do I fit in now, said Redknapp.

"Part of the Premier League is having these players but I just feel sorry when someone like Marcus Rashford is going to be thinking 'this is another pathway blocked for me.'

"He might have to go in the end. It doesn't help your confidence. Every time you are training you think 'I'm not going to play on Saturday'"

Rashford and Martial did go down the pecking order

Redknapp claimed that Rashford would be better off going out on loan as his chances would be limited under Mourinho (given his tendency to play certain players). He was essentially saying that Mourinho would never consistently play him up front. Earlier this season plenty of people agreed that it might be worth loaning him out, as he wasn't progressing and Mourinho was hell bent on playing Lukaku no matter how badly he performed. Rashford has flourished now that there's a fair chance at making the striker position his own, based on performances and not on who player x or y is and who signed them.

Does anyone actually believe that Mourinho would keep Lukaku as a sub and stick to a trio of Rashford, Martial and Lukaku this long ? I mean, we're talking about the manager that was happy to state this about Rashford and Martial:

"For 10 months I get asked 'why always Lukaku? Why always Lukaku? Why always this player?'" Mourinho said.

"'That guy doesn't have a chance to start, the other one is on the bench'. You know why now."

I don’t see why this statement wasn’t considered so controversial at the time. Rashford was visibly not developing under Mourinho. Does anyone really think under the moaning one he would have put in performances close to what he’s done since Ole has been here?

It’s natural to get defensive when people insinuate that we aren’t developing our players properly, especially Rashy as he is one of our own, but on the balance of how things were going under Mourinho, it’s not a stretch to say that he would have been better off under a different manager.

Minutes played does not equate to developing a player, before someone pulls out some stats about how much Mourinho played rashford. He’s clearly better coached these days, in addition to having the trust of playing in his natural position in CF.

Another Redknapp classic line from yesterday :

"What about the goalkeeper [David de Gea] that couldn’t make a save to save his life a while ago, now he looks like the keeper we all knew."

Wait, what? At what point in Mourinho's tenure was De Gea not bailing us out?

Jamie Redknapp has limitations as a pundit, it's why Carra and Neville have come in and are now way, way, way ahead of him in terms of the gravitas given to their respective statements. Redknapp once stated that 'Phil Jones was the future England Captain...'. Now look at Declan Rice.. a few rather decent games and look at what happens.

His comments about De Gea were from a guy who needs to learn to think a little prior to speaking. But he can't.. not his style.

I saw Redknapp make those comments live. I get what he was trying to say as there was criticsm towards Pogba for improving his play since Jose got sacked, Redknapp came back and said that it wasn't just Pogba and the entire team has improved including De Gea.

Redknapp's main issue is that he is thick as pigshit which is quite difficult when you have to think on your feet and use language. They play up on it on A League of Their Own but I imagine it's based on a lot of truth.

A 20 year old should leave his boyhood club, one of the biggest clubs in the world, where he's getting game time most weeks as soon as things aren't 100% fantastic? If he'd followed Redknapp's advice then he wouldn't be where he is now.

It was reactionary nonsense from someone that constantly speaks before he uses his limited brain power. Rashford had no reason to leave or to be thinking he was eventually going to have to leave. He was 20 and we'd signed a 29 year old, he was still getting game time and had earned a starting place for his country.

It looked like the board might keep Mourinho. He would have missed out a massive career if he was managed by Jose.

He might have, he might not have. Jose was still playing him, the team wasn't playing well, but Rashford still played. You can't even point to Solskjaer coaching him better for his upturn in form, he barely had a chance to coach him and his form was getting better before Mourinho left.

There was never any worry, maybe in a couple of years time, but at 20 for someone to be saying he might need to leave to rescue his career is reactionary click bait nonsense. It might still be years before he's consistently leading the line for us, he's essentially still a kid and his form will fluctuate.

Interesting way of portraiting it. I don't mind that people have different opinions, but i do find it a bit weird when opinions are defended by portraiting the issue as if it's somethinge else. Loan, not leave permanently, and he wouldn't be the first player to do so, nor was the issue that things suddenly weren't 100% fantastic. Redknapp is a knob, but that doesn't mean that every single thing he utters is bollox either. Why have Rashford suddenly improved his form, which wasn't exactly great up until we sacked Mourinho, because he's playing under a manager that sees his strengths, his potential, what he can bring to the team if used correctly, which is exactly what Redknapp said he should leave in order to find. It's not just about getting minutes on the pitch, which he was getting plenty of, it's about developing, evolving into a better player instead of yet another promising youngster that failed to step up and eventually gets replaced.

Do you honestly believe that we would be seeing this type of form from Rashford if Mourinho was still in charge, would he be consistently playing up front with Lukaku on the bench ? Doubt it, he'd be rotated on the left along with Martial, simply because the current version of Rashford doesn't fit into Mourinhos image of a striker. If you think thats a healthier environment than the one he's currently in, then good luck arguing it

Disagree, he had his ups and downs, mostly average and never consistently improving.

And it's never been about rescuing his career, but leaving to improve.

I yield to no-one in my acknowledgement of Jamie Redknapp as a cock. However, to revisit these comments in the light of the last month's events is pointless. If Jose was still here, it's still a valid question. As George Benson said, hindsight is 20/20 vision.

To be fair he was right, Rashford needed to get away from Mourinho.
Why?
Rashford played as many or more games under Jose as any other player.

It was a typically sensational thing to say just to try to sound clever but failed to do so.

Very rare that a football pundit says anything sensible.

Surely the issue is he wouldn't have been playing as the central striker? Mourinho was totally misguided in thinking the only way was Lukaku upfront at all costs even with him being in terrible form this season.

His comments after Brighton away last season are all you need to know for his mindset.

If Jose was still here the phrase 'He needs to leave would apply to everyone in the club - probably fans too. :) Just leave Jose grumbling at the pitch

Minutes played does not mean a player is being developed. Rashford actually looks well coached now, the difference is very visible.

Regarding being well coached. Remember that Ole said that he had almost no time to do anything tangible with the players until going to be Dubai.

I do accept that the style of play has helped Rashford but wasn't Redknapp comment related to matches played.

He was never going to be Uniteds starting no 9 under Jose, he was always going to be used out wide, he also wasn't getting enough games as a no 9 even as a backup. For his long term progression as a no 9 and development as a controlled and calm finisher, the best thing for his career at this stage was to be rid of Jose.

I personally think the last 2.5 years under Jose actually developed his all round game, but it was getting to the point where he needed to start playing games as a no9 and in a team setup to suit his abilities.

Just my opinion though

Admittedly, I did think of Owen's injury plights the other day when I saw the amount of minutes Rashford has got since he broke into the first team. However, with the sports science and data available now and in the future, Rashford will not suffer the same fate as Owen did.

Also, it's incredibly convenient to make a statement that won't manifest itself for about another 10 years...

Also depends how cleanly an individual lives off the pitch.

Ronaldo was just as explosive as Rashford and Owen, if not more. Still going strong at almost 34.

Didn't Fergie used to give Ronaldo short mid season breaks in his early years though? And compare that to Rooney who pretty much was an ever present for Utd barring injuries.

Ronaldo is a once in a generation player in fairness. But I do agree with your fundamental point that it is possible for Rashford to play at the top for many years.

I just like the kid a lot. I think he can become one of the best in the world if he improves his decision making. He already has a lot in his locker. Pace, trickery, a deadly shot in his right foot and perhaps most importantly, hunger.

Rooney used to eat shit, smoke and he clearly has an issue with alcohol. That's probably why he started to decline when still in his 20's rather than playing too much football as a teenager.

Rashford seems much more level headed and disciplined when it comes to his private life. Also has a leaner body shape, like Ronaldo.
