All the best to him, good professional and the fact that it didn't work out for him was never through lack of effort or a bad attitude. Not to be unkind to him but it really surprises me how long Juventus seem to have been interested in him.

Stupid to get rid now. Sign a pre-contract and leave in the summer. We won't go bankrupt paying his wages for 6 more months, but he could provide some cover when our defenders inevitably go through their next round of injuries.
He’s been a model pro but not played a lot of football for us. I’m all for cover, but he’s wasted enough of his career with us - I’m happy for him to go and hopefully get some games. If he is only likely to get a few games between now and the end of the season, then we don’t really need him - we can cover him with what we have.

Always good to see dead wood leave the club.
We fans so often say these sorts of things, but we also often lament footballers’ lack of loyalty to the club. We either have our cake, or we eat it.

Darmian, Di Maria, Falcao, Blind, Depay, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin all gone. When you consider all their transfer fees, wages and lack of sell-on fees you really have to say LVG did a terrible job at recruitment

Whilst clearly not suited to us, you have to credit Darmian as a consummate professional who genuinely gave what he could each and every time he played.

And given the fact his appearances have been sporadic for a significant period of time, and he hasn't moaned in the press or anything, it says a lot about him as a man.

It looked promising, he had a few moments but hopefully he can get back on track in Italy, and we can get ourselves a better full back.

No need for insults or attacks really, seems very small time from some.

Actually had really high hopes for him, really liked him as a player.

Just never got any momentum going and came into the club at a bad time.

Won't be surprised if he turns out good for Juve, good luck to him.

Farewell Matteo good luck.

Was never going to work here, just not suited to the Premier League or United. Not willing to get forward enough and has the stamina of an asthmatic chain smoker.

Prefered him this season to either Young or Valencia, so don't think this is a good move. For me it would have been Dalot Vs. Darmian for RB

Yeh. I actually prefer Darmian to Dalot for that RB slot. He's more solid than Dalot who's far away of being ready.

I agree, he's more solid now. In games where we want to attack a lot we could go with Dalot and in tight games where we expect to defend down that side a lot, go with Darmian

But alas we now have just Dalot for every type of match, or hamstringing ourselves with Young or Valencia

He isn't bad player , the fact that Juventus , a superior team than us interested in him prove it.

Great news for him. He is/was just wasting his prime age here. He is not fit for PL style of play. Hope Italy does well for him.

Why loan? Sell him.
Maybe because
- Juve doesn't want to buy him, yet. Would like to see if he will work in their setup.
- We can't force him to go to a club he doesn't want to go, just so that we can make very little money.
- He has been excellent professional and so we respect his wishes.

We get his wages off the books and Juve pay a fee to loan him. Then he can go earn a contract with them. Pretty silly to have him sat around waiting for chances the remainder of the season.
We'd have an awfully large squad if everyone thought like you..

The idea that he will be amazing as a wing back for them I don't buy it. He is slow as a snail, and while the Italian league is a different animal, Juventus are playing a physical beast in Sandro at LWB, I don't think they would be satisfied with Darmian at RWB. I think they might try him more in the RCB role in which he might be more useful.

Who knows how he adapts, he was in team of the year in 2014-15 and 2015-16 before signing for ManUtd. Looks like he failed to adapt to the pace and intensity of the league.

Just watching his ManUtd games, it's hard to see him getting any game time for Juventus but checking his achievements in Serie A, maybe there is a chance. Few players are good in a league and very poor in other leagues.

Yes you have a point, and frankly I hope he does good for himself and gets a move to a top side. The fact that Juventus came back several times for him, tells us that they rate him.

And also he is plays well and Juventus don't take the option then you will always other good teams lining up for him. Hopefully that happens, plays well for Juventus and signs for other teams for good money.

Is the 4m price reported correct? If true, I don't think Juve would pass and not get him for that if he does remotely good. Either way, we must plan for our own RB problem and Darmian should stay in the past.

He's not a bad defender. He's a good defender.

I don't get where the idea came from that he's a bad defender.
Same here, thought he was pretty decent but Ive no doubt that Juve will suit him better and he will have a grand old time there. No ill wishes towards him, will fondly remember his tackle in the box in the Europa League final.

4 million Euros was the reported fee but Fabricio Romano reported it was 2.6 million loan fee + 7.1 million fee to sign.

That's not so bad is it?

I'm more sceptical about Juve buying him now, though.
It's not pad. Around 10 million for a player who barely plays and have only 1 year of contract.

Btw initial reported 4 million was just a loan fee.

Just playing for Juventus will make him good choice for lot of Serie A teams.

Freeing up a place on the bench for some youngster is good enough for me, to be fair.

Agreed that he's not bad. But it does say something that the guy hasn't been able to knock freaking Valencia off the RB position under 3 different managers in the 4 or 5 years he's been here. Valencia is the worst RB out of the top 6 clubs by far imo too.

Yeah that one too. We have used 24 slots already, without registering players like Rashford. So it makes sense to offload all the players who barely plays or not good enough. It's very important as we need more additions next season.

I'm sure other will follow. Keeping hold on some of our deadwood has been a problem for a long time. Rojo, Valencia, Jones, Fellaini and Young all need to be shipped out for one reason or another, by the summer at the latest in my opinion.

Juventus grabbed us by the balls on this the same way they did with Pogba and the same way they managed to get Can and Ramsay for free. That's the benefits of having top quality football people at the club.
