When he was in miles of space he seemed to get the ball stuck under his foot several times, but recovered in time because he was under no pressure.

It was a so so game for him. At one moment he was slipping into the Jose Matic mode. He never looks behind him or know what is going around. A lot of times in the first half Young was completely free on the right without a Brighton player in sight yet Matic continues to play the short passes into congested areas.
We definitely need a good upgrade on him.

Agree. As good as he has been with more forward passes, he does lose his man too regularly for me in a defensive situation. I'm not knocking the guy, I think his legs just don't quite work as well as they used to.

He's done well since ole has come in (much improved) but I don't think he will be any better

I'm genuinely shocked at how much better he's playing right now. It just shows he really was coasting through matches before under Jose.

It's funny, everybody thought he was jose's man but he was sandbagging worse than everybody. I think he wanted him gone just as much.

I had to rub my eyes a few times when I saw him sprinting out to Ozil to shut him down. He's finally playing like the Matic we expect.

I agree though we desperately need another DM to challenge him. He can't play to a high level every week without a rest.

My main gripe with him is his lack of awareness and inability to correctly judge when he can and can't 'skill' past players. He has had the ball stolen from behind him at least a dozen times this season. You also see him frequently jog back instead of busting a gut. There was an instance last game where it was clear as day that the ball from the left was going to be cut back to the only arsenal player in the box, and he just makes no attempt at all to intercept the pass and walks behind the arsenal player who ended up fluffing his shot anyway I believe. Thankfully he has improved considerably since OGS took over.

He was very good for long spells under Jose. People just never appreciated him and only choose to focus on when he was having a poor patch and also on his slow pace.

Matic is one of my favourite players. Massively underrated. He often reminds me of Bousquet.
