We have been riding our luck with him for a long time without a mistake. Was bound to happen at one point I guess.

Very inconsistent player who did a lot of good things during the game but is always liable to make mistakes. Did well to take the ball from a Burnley player who was just about to shoot but does dumb stuff like give away silly free kicks against opposition who are good at set plays. The pass to Andreas also wasn't the best idea.

I actually think he's a very good defender but his decision making is about as poor as his injury record.

He seemed rattled by all the booing, he's always dodgy and was poor tonight, I just hope we don't renew his contract.

What was that brain dead hospital pass to Pereria all about? You have two closing you down so I'll play a bobbling ball to you.
Just watched it again. Then when Burnley have the ball he starts spinning around. What's wrong with this guy?

He lost Fa Cup for us, 3rd place for England in WC, League cup. Only PL left to make quadruple. And this season he is on his way to do it. I am not saying that he is guilty more than Andreas but as @Litch said, he is always involved in every major feck up. Amazing talent for that.
Btw he could do better after Pereira lost the ball. He should and could attack player at cost of foul. He allowed free pass.

It still shocks me that some posters here dont think he should be sold this summer primarily because he is "homegrown"

That attempt at a header in the first half annoyed me, a lot more than it should've for something so small. It's defending 101.

That’s true, his absolute feckwittery negates a lot of the good things he does.

Apart from his brainfarts, it's also annoying having a defender who is pointless in attack during set pieces in dying minutes.

That's not on Jones.
I don't think he is at fault for the pass, Pereira had plenty of time. However I'm a little baffled he didn't just clean the player out on the edge of the box once Pereira lost the ball.

Stealing a living at Utd for so long but thats not his fault when the club is run by owners and a CEO who clearly don't want to spend what it takes to bring in quality.

He spreads the panic to the rest of the team. Average average player.

Don't think he was at fault for the goal, although there really weren't many options for Andreas to play to after he got the ball. Was alright today. I'm astonished he's played so much without an injury over the past month or so.

If we want a solid defense unit he shouldn't be here. His natural habitat is panic and clumsiness

Incredible that he is being blamed for the pass, it was an normal pass to Pereira. Andreas feck it up trying to do some lame trick and lost the ball.

I know Jones is a time bomb with feckups but that one is not on him.

Made the wrong pass, it is pretty obvious. He waited to long and invited pressure, instead of making the obvious pass to Lindelof. He only passed to Pereira because he himself lost all other alternatives by dwelling on the ball, and Pereira came to rescue him, he then played the pass in front of Pereira so close to the path of the Burnley players Pereira only took one touch before 2 players were dead on him. Not much Pereira can do there, he was probably going to make the pass to Lindelof but the pass from Jones made him go the other way, right into trouble. Sometimes it is better for a defender to hoof when midfielders aren't showing for the ball instead of taking that risk of playing a dangerous pass.

Also, he was terrible in resolving the situation he made. Making a pass like that, if it is not a mistake you should at least be prepared to anticipate danger and defend if it fails, if you know the risk involved in the play.

Completely agree.

Pereira had a role in this debacle, but any CB with a brain (which rules out Jones) doesn't make that kind of pass in that situation. Being put in a bad spot by his moron teammate, Periera should have just cleared the ball forward with his left foot on one touch. Or he could have played a hard pass back to De Gea, but that would have been risky.

And even then, the danger he created now upon him, Phil should have taken one for the team and conceded a free kick outside the box. The opportunity to do so was there.

He's still not a bad fourth or fifth option but we should never, ever think of Jones as regular starting material for United. Maybe not even Burnley.

We play passes like that 10 times in each game - the problem was that when Matic gets the ball he Shields it better or passes it back if he is under pressure. But that is not on Jones.

Yeah, that's why he should be starting for a side like West Ham or Leicester where he can have 3-5 calamitous moments a season but overall be a pretty good #2 CB and their fans will grumble when he costs them a cup semi-final or random game but could still help a side hit 55 points a year.

He wasn’t that bad yesterday. Having said that he should stride forward more the ball which would help push our side higher up the pitch when we are on the attack.

Poor pass by Jones. We have 6 Burnley players in our half with Pogba, Mata and Rashford all behind them. He should be playing a pass to cut Burnley out, not a killer short ball with Pereira left with no-one to pass to.

No doubt Pereira should do better when he gets the ball though.

Jones did absolutely fine yesterday. Blaming him for trusting a midfielder who wants the ball is obviously silly. Yes, it's risky playing it around at the back, but everyone knows that, and there's a good reason for it!

As for him not clearing out the attacker once the ball was lost.. What, and get sent off? I think we had more chance at 0-1 down to win the game than we would have had a 0-0 with 10 men. Burnley were tight and organised yesterday, and we didn't play well enough, that's why we dropped points. They let us get a draw by sitting deeper and deeper towards the end.

In no way excusing Pereira for his mistake, but that was a poor choice of pass from Jones. If he wanted to pass to Pereira, he should have done so two touches before he did, as soon as Pereira moved towards him. Dawdling on it just allowed Burnley to close them both down and Pereira was almost out of options as soon as he received it. It's these minor differences that separate top defenders with those who might be good tacklers but kill the team's overall play.

Wasn’t that bad compared to the usual performance he puts out. Still noticed most of his last ditch stuff was him cleaning up a mess he started himself.

Just makes everyone nervous.

They've spent over £700m since 2013, willingness to spend isn't the problem. Bad investments by successive managers has been.

The last page or so is madness. People are just desperate to get their digs in no matter if they're justified or not.
