The barren fellaini years have come to an end.

To be fair to him, fellaini won more than Liverpool and Spurs have won in the last ten years.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
The quality of football in the Chinese league has just gotten worse. I guess we still won’t be seeing China at the World Cup anytime soon.
Yes, a player who was one of the best players at Everton and a regular for a Belgium team who came third in the WC is going to drag down the quality of the Chinese league.

I really do hate the over-the-top negativity towards our players sometimes.

I mean in terms of aesthetics appeal. Fellaini is a good player when played to his strengths, but when it comes to technical, beautiful football that the fans loves to see, Fellini approach is not suited for that.

He's not our player anymore, thankfully. :)

Fellaini would argue his best games came when we played hoof ball and used him as a target man - particularly remember a derby win at Old Trafford under LVG when Fellaini was utilised to his skill set. Unfortunately it's not acceptable for United to play like that on even a semi regualr basis.

Jesus Christ... I remember just weeks ago he was scoring freekicks like crazy and got us crucial wins, even against Juventus. Now suddenly he is the Phil Jones of right wing?
Yeah Mata is useful imo

If he is happy playing a squad role I would lile him to finish his career with United.

His experience and technical ability means he would be great to keep aorund considering we have a lot of young players.

Also, we need to keep DDG's mates here!

I still think it was a mistake letting him leave in january when our midfield is so thin with neither of Fred, Pereira or McTominnay showing they are up to it.

If we get Pogba, Matic or Herrera injured we will be in serious trouble.

Any way hopefully he does well in China, he was a great squad option
Even if he was a great squad option (I swear every second post about him mentions that), which is debatable (he was decent and had his uses in my book, not more), he never was a realistic option in midfield, so we don't lose anything here. His best games came when he played as a free-roaming target man, or rather when he came on from the bench to wreak havoc.

Imagine Herrera gets injured for the PSG leg games, who would tou preffer to play, Pereira who has have an awful year and couldnt deal with Reading nor Burnley midfield? Fred who offers nothing defensively and offensively has proved nothing and everytime he plays has all of us wonder why the heck did we bought him? McTomminay that offers just defensive skills or Fellaini that at least has aggressiveness and knows how to get dirt and give some pause on the game and is a relative threat on the offensive game?

Im not by any means saying hewas the ideal squad player, but like I said seeing how thin our midfield options are Im surprised we let him go.

Hopefully he turns out good, but I’ve lost faith in him. He hasn’t even got opportunities under Ole and I can only imagine how bad he must be doing in training that Ole chose Pereira before him.

Thats actually a really good point. Though Fellaini's a better player than what Pereira and Fred have shown for us i don't personally think he's a better central midfielder. Certainly not for the type of football Solskjaer has us playing.

It's ironic that you've lost faith in a player after half of the season and you'd rather have Fellaini, who was atrocious when he just came to us, only finding his feet under Van Gaal.

You have to respect the lad for his attitude and fortitude if not his ability and skillset. A United player in the former but not the latter. World class chest control about sums it up.

Good luck to him.

Not a good option in midfield for us. His chest control is a gift from the football gods, though. Should be played further forward. I hope he nods in 50 goals a season in China.

Easy. The one who actually has CL experience under his belt and performed against top calibre opposition.

Played 119 times for us, all the time being professional, and always work hard on the field. And he doesn't want to just sit around on the bench collecting wages either.

He's not what we need, but respect him as a player.

Of those 4 options i'd go with Fred.

If we have utilised this mentality then the class of 92 would have never seen the light of day as they were replacing top world class players who were way better then Fellaini. For me its pretty simple really. A good offer has come along for a workhorse whose already 31 year old who is on huge salaries and who lack the talent AND the characteristics to play for us. That's too good to pass. The age alone should be enough for us to sell. In fact SAF with all his sentimentality had made sure to get rid of workhorses by the time they hit their early 30s (Fortune, Phil Nev, Ji Sung Park, Nicky Butt)

Returning on your example, we won't win the CL irrespective whether we kept Fellaini or not. Under such circumstances we might as well give football time to a young player who might have the necessary characteristics to actually make it with us.

Good on you Fellaini, hope it’s a proper piece of piss for ya. When we signed you I thought you’d be ideal, bit nasty and a pain in the arse to play against but you just didn’t fit it in to United, I got it wrong and for that I’m sorry, I could never take enough showers to eliminate the bad times but you seemed like a nice big afro kinda guy. Good luck. Peace.

His first year with us was a disaster and he bore the brunt of fan’s frustrations during Moyes’ tenure. But Fellaini stood tall (no pun intended) and kept on fighting and won back the respect and admiration of many fans, including this one. Some may say he never had the quality to be a United player, but I think most would agree he had the mentality and the fighting spirit we want to see in United players.

Thank you Fellaini and good luck in China.

Best news of 2019 so far.

To think within the space of a couple months we're rid of Mourinho and Fellaini. Amazing.

I liked him but agree with that statement
Indeed. I love Mata, but looking at things objectively it’s hard to say that his United career has been much more successful than Fellaini’s. Yet one can be certain that his departure thread won’t be full of gleeful crap like this one.

I didn’t say that. Besides Fellaini, there have been many players who weren’t superstars or didn’t have the best technical skills, but nevertheless gave their all when they wore our shirt.

He always gave his maximum and completed his tasks on the pitch, I agree with that. He did his job properly, saved our ass a few times, scored winners here and there..

That is all fine and correct.

But my opinion is that as a footballer (seen as a whole) he is not a United material by far. He doesn't control the ball well, he can't pass well, he can't run with the ball, can't dribble, can't even use his legs. :) I mean, there is no top team in Europe that build-up their game around a player like him. And we did (under LVG and Jose). And you can't expect results if your main man on the pitch is Fellaini. You just can't.

I am thankful for his efforts and appreciate what he did for the club, but I am glad that he finally moves from the club and wish him well in the future.

It's more about what he represented. Anti-football.

Fellaini himself could not really be faulted.
Anti football? feck that term. Since its inception, there's no rule that says football should only played in one specific way.

Best of luck Felé. Did his best with whatever he had. Bailed us out more than once and was instrumental on the Europa cup run which got us back into the CL.

He was never going to be the signing that got everyone excited. He's a reminder of all the nonsense that's gone down in the post-SAF era. Moyes' panic signing. Jose's hoofball. But I think I'll miss him, just because. Elbows. Afro. Chest control. Stick him at DM or up top - there's no in-between. Probably one of the strangest/unique-est players in recent memory, because nobody really knew what to do with him, or what his best position was.
