Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Jones is hardly dominant in the air. Climbing all over the back of strikers back while missing the ball or letting them go on corners. Bailly is superior defender.
Jones is far better in the air than Bailly, despite not being particularly dominant.

Also, what makes Bailly a superior defender? He hasn't shown it in over 18 months, that's for sure. For some reason when it comes to Bailly there seems to be a lot of people who can't separate potential (which he does have) and actual current level. More than any other position, a central defender needs to show consistency. Something Bailly has never come remotely close to doing other than his first three months when he joined us. Since then he has been all over the place and is as likely to have an absolutely terrible match as he is to have a great one.

Bailly does have the potential to be great. I really do hope that he reaches that potential. But that's all it is at the moment. In terms of current level (and by that I mean over the last year or two) he is comfortably at the bottom of our pile of centre backs.

Looked like it had the potential to be one of his wild days after that pass back. Luckily he settled into the game and we got a clean sheet but it wasn't his best performance.

Good performance by him. Neither him or Lindelof did much wrong. Young and Herrera had horror matches.

Good today, much better option than Jones, hopefully he'll get the chance to nail down that CB starting spot.

He didn't cost us any goals which is a bonus. Gave the ball away needlessly a lot.

Did well enough, I definitely fell more confident with him in the team than with Jones. But that's not saying much.

Horrible start conceding a corner from his back-pass but defended well after that. Good performance overall.

I feel like the result flatters his performance. That mesmeric touch to Matic aside, I thought he was very clumsy throughout the game. We need a commander next to Victor. Bailly isn't the one.

Good game by Bailly. Settled in after that stupid back pass and was good apart from dialing with the set pieces. Both him and Lindelof seem incapable of taking authority on clearing corners, which is not good.

the scrutiny over this guy is ridiculous, i saw someone in the match thread blaming him over a young-lingard mistake. its like once a narrative gets going, people just can't be objective and regurgitate the same stuff despite it not being applicable.

also, I'd hate to be a manchester united CB when my right back partner is Young. Young is always in no man's land.

I know he hasn't set the world on fire, but I don't think he has been as bad as people make out either. Thought he was solid defensively today

Think he was good today. One crucial interception when the ball almost went in between him and Lindelof.

Yea, he was far from bad. His passing is quite poor though.

Trying to return to somekind of a form. That clean sheet needs to build up his confidence further before tougher matches as he'll be needed.

He has had many matches with mistakes in the past, and because of that people judge him for every single mistake now. I also think he has been good the last matches.

He did well today. Both our CBs did. He does fill me with panic with the ball at his feet. I expect him to try something stupid and give the ball away.

There were times in the 2nd half where our defenders got the ball and were being pressed every time. The only option was to go long, where it would come back again as Leicester regrouped and regained possession.

There's a chicken and egg situation here as we didn't counter this by dropping fast enough and give the defenders easier options. For the defenders and players like Bailly it's a decision: 'I've got to evade this press, take an extra touch and give an outlet pass to feet so we can face forward again, otherwise, it'll come back to us in 15 seconds'.

Was decent, I prefer him to Jones in there but he needs to build on this going forward as Jones at least has a bit of consistency.

Apart from that horror pass at the start, he was decent I felt. But both him and Lindelof don't inspire confidence during set pieces. We need a dominant CB next to Lindelof.

But he's a great option to have on the bench.

Played well today, alongside Lindeholf.

I can neither believe, nor understand the observations and comments on here... Bailly has had a rotten time under Mourinho, lost form, probably lost his way mentally with all that was going on.. he needs time to get back that player he was when he arrived. People are so, so, so dismissive of players on here, it is astonishing sometimes. This is a football squad, with so many different dynamics and influences throughout a season. It isn't an instagram account. These are players.

Bailly and Lindeholf held Leicester to how many clear shots on goal today? Maybe one or two? How many saves from open play did DDG have to make?

We are still developing as a team.. let's give some of these players some time to get used to a new regime.

Keep giving him more game time to settle. He was alright this game and should easily keep his place if given a proper run provided he doesn't get injured again.

The defense itself was solid today and not much to complain about given how we mostly kept Leicester at bay and resigned then to puff chances and whatsnot. Except for Young everyone else was solid defense wise.

I understand that but he seems to do it in general. Takes an extra touch when not required or doesn't take the easy lay off to Young.

You feel like that he can get himself in front of any shot somehow, but you also feel like he can make mistakes that even a Sunday league player couldn't. Just a bizarre player.

He constantly passes the ball behind lindelof when passing across the back, even when under zero pressure. How hard is it to pass into someone's stride, it allows the opposing team to push onto our defense much easier.

Today I felt much more confident. With Jones one always expects a mistake, with Bailly not so much. Solid performance for Erik, hopefully he regains his place for Fulham.

The problem with our defence is theyre all pretty good centerbacks but none of them really make a dominant partnership, maybe because none of them have ever shown they are top level but all have their weaknesses too. Bailly is good when on form, but we're kind of weak in the air when he partners Lindelof and just look vulnerable off set pieces. Put Smalling next to Lindelof or Bailly and we struggle to build from the back. Put Jones in and again, decent, capable of great games but way too inconsistent. Not to mention most of them always get injured so we can't build.

Put Van Dijk in next to any of them and its a defence transformed not only in play, on the ball but also from set pieces on both ends. Its what we lack. None of our current ones can make a top partnershil between them, but with that top defender, a few of them can become top players on their own.

Yep, that's something that was frustrating me today as well. I can't say I've noticed it previously so I'm not sure if Bailly just had a bad day with that, or whether he does do it all the time and this was just the first I've noticed.

It's something that Smalling often gets criticism for (and rightfully so), so it's only fair to point out when Bailly does the same.

Solid post, I feel Bailly is on lindelof level and apart from the red card and a few moments, he has has played quite well recently.

We need a koulibally monster to take our defence to the next level, if lovren can become part of the league's best defence then so can Bailly

When the caf has adopted a narrative, the circlejerk is hard to stop. This nonsense about him being a mistake waiting to happen is so overplayed that it does border on lazy and just further highlight this hive mentality that goes on on boards like these. Once a narrative has set in, it's hard to change that.

There was really nothing in this game indicating that he was about to drop a mistake or anything. He was relatively composed in defense and we were hardly threatened defensively by Leicester and overall we had a solid performance defensively.

People are just regurgitating the same rethorics they've heard and just going through the motion with them.

He played well and him and Lindelof look like they have the makings of a decent partnership. Im still surprised our previous manager didnt get it more of a shot without just changing it once a mistake was made.

He did what he had to do. Solid and composed enough. Despite the fears that he was ready to cost us at any moment
