Lingards job is to get in between the lines and make things. Was not great today but still is important to us. Granted we need a RW in the summer.

Interesting to see some of the comments basically calling him a nothing player. Was expected though. Wasnt a great game for him but last game showed we arent exactly better when hes not playing.
Then today's game showed he's not the solution and that is what people are (rightfully) pointing out.

I want us to try Sanchez there but if that doesn't work out, I accept Lingard is the best option we have for the RW for now... doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.

Never a winger . It's no worse than playing Mata there.
Very poor still
Another terrible performance, but sadly I still think he's more useful at his worst than Mata is. It just emphasises how bad our right wing is.
Ole doesn't try anyone else there, not Rashford, not Martial and not Sanchez.

I think he's one of the first names on the teamsheet and I'll be pleasantly surprised if we are looking to sign a RW.
Pretty much, he isn't drifting in all the time, whilst Young put a cross in, which ultimately makes our right side useless in attack.

So the people criticizing him today think he played right wing?

That is interesting!

It's quite clear . He doesn't have the skill, speed and trickery to be threat from wide. As false 9 it allowed him to get on the ball and use clever link up play with the others.

Behind Sanchez and Rashford. In front of Pogba, Matic and Herrera. Through the middle.
Don’t think I’d agree with that personally but he was all over the front line and popping up central as he does but his position was predominantly supposed to be right wing hence why he kept resetting to there and why when we had to defend he seemed to be the one always going back down that side to help Young.

We really need to upgrade him. He ends so many fantastic opportunities, hopefully it will be addressed this summer. Best case scenario, for next season is that he’s a squad player on ridiculous wages (for his ability).

Regardless of where he was supposed to play or did play, he was poor today and so deserves criticism.
Fair enough. That is your opinion. But it is weird how certain some people are when evaluating/judging a player while not knowing what his position was during the game.

He may not be the best player in the world, but his banter is top notch
After a performance like he just put in, he really should stay off social media. He’s a complete and utter embarrassment to the club. He’s even limited the comments to his post, because he knows what most will be.

Eh, if people will shit talk him, fk em.

Why should he stay off of social media because his performance at work? If I have a bad day at work, am I not allowed to post on Instagram ?

People need to fk off and not be pricks 24/7 on the internet ... just my personal opinion.

Awful today, so many misplaced passes and really highlighted the need for an actual RW (as if it needed highlighting)

Erm... because he applies his trade in the public eye and after another performance like that he should not be making jokes and thinking all is great. He should be knuckling down and trying much harder.

He’s really is all that is wrong with the current modern day player.

Not really. He needs to be at the pogba level before posting shit like this. He just makes himself even more unlikable, it’s as if he thinks he’s way better than he actually is. Which really isn’t likeable on any front.

His social media stuff is completely and utterly fine. I see no problem at all with it. Tagging the Emirates as dancefloor last week was brilliant.

My issue is he's just not very good, not good enough to be a regular starter anyway.

We need an upgrade in the Summer, Lingard should be a squad option.

He's fine.

He's just a bit forgettable. He's in there because he's got good movement, stamina (can ping a long-range shot in too) and ultimately, we don't have anyone better.

I agree generally, but today he looked absolutely knackered from about 30 mins in.

Was out on his feet by the time he came off.

Classic "Jesse is a nothing player" is inevitable after that below par performance from the whole team.

This thread has the same predictable pattern. When he plays good, he won't get any credits, when he plays bad the hate flock will return here and say he is nothing.

Same pattern, can we just lock this thread?

It's a joke posted on social media that took him probably 2min to post. Why are we using that as any sort of marker on how his work ethic or willingness to improve is as a football player? The team won today so I think he's entitled to be happy about that and make a joke or two, even though we and I'm sure he himself knows that he had a pretty poor performance individually.

Being irritated and bashing a player because of something that has no relevance to their performance on the pitch or on the training ground is the only thing that's wrong here.

Making this post or not, does not have any thing to do with him “knuckle down and trying much harder.”

He can post on social media and do that. He shouldn’t have to hide from any internet tough guys.

He was a Black hole where attacks went to die today.

Could do with an upgrade and get an actual RW and move him into the middle.

But in general I like him, fantastic squad player.

That is not true. He has his fair share of die hard defenders who over praise him and mock other posters whenever he plays well then completely disappear from this thread whenever he plays poor.

So we’ve 9 wins out of 10 he didn’t start v Burnley so I’m guessing he’s started 8/9 out of 10 games Ole has managed and we’ve won them all. And the one he didn’t start he won the peno, yet he’s a nothing player just like young and Jones.
This place .

I thought he did alright today. He’s very comfortable asking for the ball in crowded areas, making quick little exchanges, which often results in space as several defenders try to nick the ball.

Absolutely flabbergasting to see how underappreciated he is on here. Thank goodness our management has more sense than that.

Weird implies something being abnormal, uncommon or different. People criticizing an athlete based more on feelings than facts is normal.

He was terrible. That's one of the reason why the defence was under so much pressure.
He was not even trying. Normally he is a player who will run non stop and pressure a lot and put the opposing defence under pressure.
But today he didn't do anything.

I take it the brighter the blue is where he spent most of his time or just where most of his touches were, because if so if anything that would indicate the left to me. Like I said later in a post to me he was assigned the right hand side but he does what Jesse does and probably what he is instructed to do which was pop up all over the front line or where ever he thinks space will be he just always reset to the right hand side, as you could see when we were defending, Sanchez went back on the left and Lingard on the right. He was just doing what Mata always does.

Going by touch and pass map, Sanchez was the only attacker who stayed on left wing, Rashford and Lingard were all over the place. Solskjaer also said that on Lingard, that he is a link player. So he wasn't playing as right winger. It's like that from so many games and even before Solskjaer too, just that FBs are pushed very high and we play with attackers who interchange positions now.
