I'd say it's the other way around Dembele offers more of a direct goal threat who is more ruthless in his way going past players and scoring whereas Sancho uses his trickery more so than out speed to beat the player and score/assist.

For our style of play (or the direction Ole is taking us) I think Dembele would suit us on the right. His game is more like Rahsfords in his raw outright speed is scary combined with his movement and body faints, you just don't know which way he'll go because he's good with either foot. Sancho would also work but for me not be as ruthless, he isn't a slow player but not as quick as Dembele. I just think he won't be as direct as Rashford or Dembele, he is more like Mahrez in the way he can go past players with his dribbling.

Your'e right that if Dembele was 'up for sale' there would be competition all over, which other top champions league side can offer a guaranteed starting 11 spot though? We'd also probably top anyone else in terms of wages.

For me it's Dembele.
It's important to note that Sancho averages 2.8 dribbles per game while getting dispossessed 1.6 times per game. Mahrez only averages 0.7 dribbles per game, while getting dispossessed 1.1 times per game. For reference, Sterling is 2.6 dribbles per game and 2.6 dispossessed 2.6 times per game. Sane has 2 dribbles per game while dispossessed 1.4 times per game. Dembele is at 2.8 dribbles per game and dispossessed 1.8 times per game, but at Dortmund was at 3.2 and 1.3 per game.

So Sancho might not be as direct as Dembele, but he still dribbles past players at not only a good rate, but also very frequent.

Why does anyone think Barca will sell Dembele?
Yep, no point even thinking about it.

People should stop suggesting Sancho and Dembele, because they clearly won't happen.

I think we'd be willing to pay the money I just don't think Dortmund will be willing to sell this summer, the question is would you rather wait a season or by someone this summer who isn't as good?

Put £120m on the table for Dembele and it will make Barca think.
Why would it make them think? He is probably the best RW talent in the world, which also by now is semi proven. Players like that doesn't come cheaper than £80-100m today, and that is at an earlier stage of development.

It would have made sense if he was the fourth or fifth best RW talent around, and they could get one of the top 2 like Dembele and Sancho instead, but that isn't the case.

Btw to all Sancho fans, Michy Batshuayi was also very good at Dortmund, but not so much in the English and Spanish leagues...

Because he isn't first choice, Coutinho and him 'share' the games but Coutinho is favoured. I believe and offer big enough they'll consider it

It was Dembele who became the favored option before his injury. He started to score goals, some crucial. That was what led to Coutinho to united BS rumors cuz he wasn't getting as much gametime.

Dortmund and the £120m they would demand.
Not sure why it’s an issue, the time when Ed refused to spend big is when we were trying to sign 28 years old winger who isn’t world class talent or some centre backs who isn’t world class. If our scout says the player is worthy and has potential to be one of the best, Ed is likely willing to spend.

He was 24 when he was at Dortmund. How is that comparable to Sancho, the 18 year old who is clearly flat out talented?

That's why we need a director of football who can get us good deals. Woodward is not good at that. Also the way Lukaku played at wings against Arsenal, I think we should try to develop him into a winger. He can cross the ball, has good speed and strength and can hug the line. We have remaining of season for that and I have confidence that Solskjaer can do it.
Surely you're not serious in suggesting that we should try to convert our 190cm tall striker who weighs around 100kg, who's got awful first touch, serious lack of stamina and is extremely one footed into a winger?

I personally think Dortmund would accept less than 100 million for Sancho (still a huge fee for someone that young and largely unproven) because that would mean them not having to worry about Bayern once again swooping in and taking away that player on a free few years down the line, or the player himself trying to force a move to Bayern which would force Dortmund's hand to ask for less money.

You have a bad case of wishful thinking mate. Their goal isn't to not lose players to Bayern, it's to improve the club. Sancho does that. Dortmund have never been about letting their players go easily. They held Lewandowski to his contract and do you remember the Dembele transfer? They didn't want to let him go. He had to really force his way out and Barca had to pay 120 mil for him. Why would they let Sancho, a similar player, go for less? Take into account he's even more valuable to English clubs because of his nationality and it's clear he's going to be very expensive. Also, he came from City so might not want to come here. Plus Michael Zorc has said they he isn't going anywhere and City have a first option on him if they do want to let him go.

Watching the game yesterday and just imagining the possibilities for Pogba if he had someone wide on the right making the movements Rashford does through the middle. And add to that Martial on the left.

Just makes me sad :(

I would chance my hand at Sancho, make a bid of 60/70m and see what Dortmund say, that is a lot of money for them to turn down. If that is a no go, I quite like the lad at Bournemouth, Brooks.

Wicked left foot, dribbles, assists, scores goals, interchanges, young, knows the league. You would think that 35m+ would be a struggle for Bournemouth to turn down and looks a cracking player.

Hasn't Paco Alacer also been magnificent for Dortmund? Not that he was bad in La Liga - a good striker from the little I've followed him at Valencia and Barca.

Anyway, OT, I don't know many available RW options at the level we need - I'm thinking Dybala/Dembele/Sancho (from the highlight reel I've seen of him ) levels of young talent, or even "more established stars".

Personally, I wouldn't mind Douglas Costa, albeit he's inconsistent.

Other options include Eriksen (if we could lure him) or Coutinho type "playmakers" - but then we'd need a proper RB to provide the width.

Could be, but not necessarily. Lewandowski Bayern links first appeared when he had a bit under 2y of contract left iirc and he was more valuable for them to keep since they were winning the league and we're competitive in CL. On the other hand they wanted to keep Miki and extend him, but they conceded to selling him to us even. Dembele is a different situation, they knew Barca had the money (they sold Neymar just few weeks before) and we're actively looking for a winger, plus Dembele was already proven in both France and Germany at that point.

Loads of parallels with Lewandowski situation then. They're on course to win the league, they're competitive in the CL, and having sold his direct competitor to Chelsea he's very valuable to them. He has three years left on his contract come summer. They know we have the money too. He'll cost a fortune.

But a lot depends on the player himself, they'll soon look to extend his contract and if he refuses they'll probably look to sell him before Bayern starts sniffing around. There's also the player himself and his wishes/ambitions.

Sancho would be the dream, but we need to strengthen other positions as well.

Suso for £35m (clause) is a smart transfer. Left footed, can drible, pass, create etc. One of the best at creating chances in Serie A this season. Lacks a little in the physical department, but not nearly as bad as Mata and plays with a high intensity and workrate. Able to hold his own in defense. Can also play in the same role as Pogba and would be a great backup for him when we need to rotate, and is the main creator for Milan this season if i'm not mistaken, so already used to "running the attack". Would be able to get a similar fee if we sell him on after 1/2 years if he is not able to perform.
In my eyes there is little risk in this transfer, and he would be able to strengthen our first team and provide coverage for the crucial "CAM" position.

Suso is as slow as Mata.

What's the story with Leon Bailey? I know he can play bot LW and RW, but he is left footed if I remember correctly and scored a cracking free kick against Bayern on Saturday. I think he's a very good player and should be looked at.

Watched the game on Saturday, he reminds me of a young Ashley Young (not meant to be a positive)

Ashley was a handy player back in his day, but a squad player at best for a club of our size. You are saying he isn't good enough to solve the RW problem? I've hardly seen him in a full match, but I had an impression he is a handy player and a good option, also pretty young, just 21.

He was at City but he was actually signed from Watford. Don't think him being at City will have a negative impact on a potential move to United considering he's from the South.

How about Brookes for right wing?
I'd be ok with it. Might not be the galatico signing that Sancho would be for us, but I think he would be a definite upgrade on our current options. He is young too and will only get better.

I see him linked to Spurs today, which would be a good signing for them as well.

I really wish we would have signed him this January and loaned him back to Bournemouth for the remainder of the year.

Didn’t know about the clause, sounds like the perfect stop-gap for Sancho while we rebuild our defense. We really don’t make many smart deals though.

Smart deals this summer would be:
Suso: £35m clause. RW/CAM.
Pellegrini: £22m/£23m (clause). Cover/future replacement/cover for Herrera/Matic.
Meunier: Ca £25m due to contract ending in 2020. If he does not perform, he will have a decent resale value. Stop-gap for Dalot/Laird to improve. Fan of our club, will not need Shawesque wages. Decent on everything, but good movement around the box against teams parking the bus.

Around £75m spent on three players that will improve our club and all easy to sell on if they do not work out without losing £££.

I think we should be looking at a marquee RW signing but realistic in trying to sign someone else as well. Even if we can only sign a 6/10 RW this summer, it'll improve our team no end. Key for me is someone who doesn't always come inside and has some gas.

Top targets - highly unlikely/impossible IMO:
MBappe, Sancho, Mane, Mahrez, Costa (personally unsure on him)

Realistic signings for depth:
Ryan Fraser, Anderson, Fekir (same as Costa for me), Lozano, maybe Chiesa (although haven't seen enough of him)

How about Joao Felix at Benfica? We seem to be linked to him, together with Real and City so he must be good. His YouTube videos are really good, I know you can't tell a lot from them. He's right-footed and plays mostly as a second striker and on the left, but he's young and he could be as good on the right. Been a while since we signed a proper wunderkind
