Fernandes and Jefferson spent the whole match in the ref's face. Ristovski tells him to feck off once and is sent off... weird.
You literally could hear on the TV a Setubal player calling the ref 'filho da puta' in the final minutes... it happens pretty much every game.

I'd love to know what Ristovski said, but it's one of those that if the game is at Alvalade or against a different club he never has the balls to send him off for it.

True, he should've cut him some slack, he had a gold ball in his forehead.
If you are going to card a player for a protest especially when the player is correct and your just a stupid feck ref then at least give him a yellow. Never a straight red.

Yeah basically all players do it, the refs should just ignore it. But if the ref wanted to be a hardass, Ristovski was hardly the worst. Maybe he just said something uncommon... I dunno.

Only explanation is that he told him something really serious... do they rite that stuff in the reports or we'll never know?

Not something that usually comes out but I can imagine Ristovsky was livid because of the gash on his head and the ref acted like nothing happened.

You know how many players for the big clubs do it in Portugal? Not giving excuses because we are useless with 10 or 11.

The result was not good for Sporting, but I think fans can see the game with positivity. I do think Keizer deserves a new season: his ideas are actually good, the team controlls the game and usually creates good chances. The major problem is that Sporting squad doesn't have any creative forward to unlock tight defences. Jovane and Nani are good players, but they are vertical players.

That just is not true. In the beginning I agree I saw him attempt to do that and play a certain way. Just as SC pointed out now he has reverted to a different way a "safer" way and we are playing just as we did under peZERO maybe a slight bit better. The issue with Keizer is even when he started well one thing always stood out and it was that the defense was absolutely shambolic literally a team composed of highschoolers could score on us. It has now been 2 months since we have played a decent game and the issue now is not only are we still conceding EVERY single game but the goals are not coming and have dried up. The team has no defensive shape or organization. He persists on his love affair with Diaby who is god awful one of the worst I have seen wear the historic green and white jersey. Their ZERO positives you can take from a game where we dropped 2 points against a team who has not won a game in their last 9 outings and the players have not been payed in months. It's embarrassing and a joke. Keep Keizer until may and then give him the sack and revamp the squad

The worst is that all these players are never going to make the first team and literally can not figure out a reason why we signing these guys. YET we still have so many players from the first team like castaginos and we managed to sign no (good) players for the first team. JOKE. I cant wait for this season to end. I miss BDC.

Yeah I was laughing a bit today. Quite a while I didn't went for Sporting Forum (the place sometimes is unbearable to read), but when I was checking players I saw there 2 or 3 names I didn't knew.

All I have to say is to all the people who voted BDC out of the club congratulations you have brought the club back to 2012/13. Keizer has not got a clue. Varandas has not got a clue. We are fans that shoot our own team in the foot and do not let us grow instead making us take 5 steps back. In the past 5 years we have shortened the gap with the other 2 and now we have made that mean nothing and have regressed. I know the game is not over yet but I have seen this movie many times to know how it ends. AND if somehow we win my opinion does not change but we wont win even against the worst Benfica since 2008. It hurt to see what is happening to this club and to see it this way. BDC was the best president we have had in 20 years and easily the best in my life time. Every time before that going into the season I knew we were fighting for 3rd place we were never contenders and no one looked at us as contenders no one respected us. Then when BDC took the helm we became contenders teams feared us our rivals feared us. Now we are just the friendly team that is no threat. I am sorry for the vent but I had too I am disgusted.

I also don’t like the result but it’s not time to start having brainfarts here. If I want that I go to Sporting forum where the 2 camps of lunatics are already there. Let’s not bring that shit here I am pissed off with this already.

What did I say that was wrong EVERYTHING was right. When is the time to start feeling a certain way and to speak the mind because this fecking president is one of the reason BDC left and he is probably going to tie Godinho as the WORST I have seen. Clube de mansos as the portuguese would say. Tell me one time we lost as bad as we are going to in this game to the big 3 from 2013 to 2018. This is a fecking disgrace ! It should be 4 or 5 to 1 right now. @SCP

Yup. I already made my mind. This manager is awful regardless of the shit squad we have. Last time Benfica won there by the same result I think it was under the Vale e Azevedo regime. How prophetic.

Better for me won’t waste my time and money under this joke situation.

If this president has any balls he leaves NOW! This coach is a nothing coach !!! Defence? Do the fecking Dutch even know what the word defence is ? Half of this squad is a joke ! And the most embarrassing part ? Benfica are not even good they play so predictable and have a bang average team. Yet we still get embarrassed 4-2. Joke a fecking joke. All the fans who voted for this and wanted this congratulations you are going to Ram this club into the ground ! I am beyond angry at this point. Sell the whole team besides 4 players ! The worst part ? Is that next year will be the same. It is what exhausting. The Portuguese league is the weakest it’s been in a long time and we can’t compete. Braga are back ahead of us after 5 years. Haven’t been this upset since 12/13

Felix,Jonas, Pizzi(?), Grimaldo those are the only players I would take in our team. This is their worst team since 2008 that they have had .

stop ranting why ? I’m angry and I need To vent exigência ZERO from this team from this president from this coach from this fan base or better yet 71% of the fans.

What happened to being proud of playing out youth? Benfica has passed us on the academy this is a complete and utter joke. My love for this team runs deep and I feel all of this and it pisses me off .

I don’t agree. And the stuff about exigência sorry but BDC had a big mouth but made awful decisions on the football department. Be it professionally or at youth level.

I don’t like Varandas but I don’t like the typical narrative adopted on Sporting forum and you are using the same one which is to insult those who don’t think or vote like you.

I agree we are worse now but let’s not create narratives like nothing happened on the last months under BDC.

It’s the last time I will talk about this and let’s not turn this thread into garbage.

And are you joking with me? Renan, Gaspar, André Pinto, Gudelj or Jefferson?

I’m not saying the players you mentioned are better then theirs. I’m simply saying the only ones that would add real quality are the 4 I named. Everyone else is garbage just like the sporting ones.

You can say BDC had a big mouth all you know the only fact I know is the most competitive sporting have been in the best part of 20 years.... was with BDC at the helm the best squad we had in 20 years... was with BDC at the helm. The best coach we have had in 30 years... was with BDC at the helm. Added that even though yes he has made some questionable signings but the best signings we had were with him. With BDC our best players were not sold for fecking peanuts. As for his last months did he make his own bed ? Yes maybe did he do some questionable things ? Yes maybe but his good way outweighs the bad and it’s not even close. Lot of the players turned on him and the club for “criticizing” them for their SPINELESS performance in Madrid and he was NOT wrong he wanted to build a pedigree at Sporting tolerância ZERO exigência MÁXIMA and that is not a bad thing this club LACKS all of that and those players felt “hurt” grow up and be a man if that is the case they would not last a week with SAF at the helm. The issue is this club has no winning culture and the one guy who brought that and made this club respectable again was ran away from the club by the mob a mob of idiots I am sorry to say.

I am not trying to insult people have their opinion but those “fans” are digging a big hole in Sporting and they have no spine and don’t know what it is to win they are ok with participating and not competing and their is a big difference. Look at what the club was in the past 5 years and look at what it is now.

I don’t want to come off a certain way because I know I am upset and am speaking with anger and you are a poster I like on here even though we have different opinions sometimes but this is not right what they are doing to this beautiful historic club is not right. They dont want us to be close to the other 2 so they are delighted the “old “ sporting is back. And by they I mean the rival fans the media etc.

Can't make this worse ffs.

Porto draws at Guimarães. Now Benfica is only 3 points behind them.

Anyway with all these late night rants I forgot to congratulate @André Dominguez. He is a Benfica poster here and a more than decent one. By the way that kid João Félix already said it but will repeat again. He remembers me JVP.

Regarding us, well there is a bigger chance that Guimarães will catch us than we catch Braga.

João Felix is incredible. Benfica player or not that kid is a stud and he still has a lot to grow he needs to stay in out league to develop.

As for Porto they just lost Marega for the rest of the season and Benfica are on their heels now as are braga but i don’t consider them contenders. As for Sporting. Still have not gotten over it but we won’t go lower then 4th still horrible.

Thanks for the congrats- THe game wasn't one sided as the press want us to believe. It was more balanced than it looked like. The main difference was that Sporting's defensive teamwork was quite poor, and the attacking combinations form Benfica were much better drilled, I don't know if it's due to players quality or lack of, but the truth is Benfica was more incisive in the last third.

Sporting controlled a lot of periods of the game, but the end product just didn't delivered.

Now, talking about winter maket: Sporting's football director is doing quite much a mediocre job and not helping the technical staff (and fans) at all.

Portuguese major clubs are very dependent of extraordinary revenues(player sales).

Sporting is hiring a lot of 25+ y.o. players. Nothing wrong about that, but when you hire a 25+ y.o. player you expect him to be at his peak within a year, maximum.
This is a simple market rule: young players tend to be more valued, and the buyer club will pay additional money for potential.
When you sell a 25+ y.o. player, you don't have the "potential argument" which helps the seller club to speculate the transfer price.

This is pretty much an edge of the knife management and makes me remember Benfica from the late 90's, buying underwhelming players as a last resource and making the club's finances worst every year.

It will be between him or Militao yes. The kid has a incredible talent but I don’t even know what is his main position. He isn’t a 10 not a 9, something between that.

Having said it I think he should stay there more 1 or 2 seasons to develop and consolidate himself before he leaves. Don’t think he is ready to make the difference on a top club on a top league. At least top 6 level.

Absolutely not he is still way to young. Let’s see if he is as smart as he is talented he is still only 18. If he stays 2 or even 3 years and leaves at 21 he will mature his game in a title contender play lots of European football and really master his trade before moving to a bigger team and league.

It’s a shame the best young portuguse prospect right now is ... a benfica one. Hurts my pride as a Sporting fan.

Three players to keep an eye during the rest of the season:

Name: Bryan Róchez
Position: Striker
Club: Nacional
Why?: Pay atention to this fellow from Honduras. He's a very good player and I'm surprised that no one tried to hire him in winter market. He has power, pace and a very good first touch.

Name: Osama Rashid
Position: Center Midfielder
Club: Santa Clara
Why?: Determined midfielder who can organize the game from the back, and has a very accurate pass and shot. Too bad he was only found a bit late on his career

Name: Galeno
Position: Left Midfielder
Club: Rio Ave (on loan from Porto)
Why?: I think he might be ready to play for Porto main squad next season. A very hard-working winger, disciplined and likes to organize the game.

Galeno touch seems a bit off for me but Rashid played fantastic against Sporting interesting player. The best one was easily Vinicius it is a shame Monaco were able to pick him up.
