Thought he was good today.

Not at his best, nobody was, but he seemed to be there whenever we were in danger to sort things out.

MOTM in my opinion, he is key to our midfield. I think he is on the best form he has been for us.

That moment, where he lofted it away from an oncoming player, then fed it to Rashford was so good.

Don't know what hold up is giving him a new contract. Get him, Pogba and De Gea signed up on new contracts asap. Think we're much better when he plays. He keeps us ticking in midfield with his quick passing and gives us energy in there.

Matic had to be careful because he was on a yellow.

But yea i thought Herrera was our best player. Such a difference between him today and Andreas on Tuesday.

He's a key player for us now. Not world class but very solid, mature and consistent.

But we really need some proper backup and competition in that midfield soon. Fred Pereira and Mctominay are currently not anywhere good enough.

His contribution off the ball is quite important, especially that he helps out on our right side which is piss poor. Now if he adds more quality on the ball, he'd be amazing

My man of the match v Leicester. It's crazy how great he's been in the last month and a half.

I feel a lot of casuals under value him and the recent average rating against Leicester proves that. He was quietly my MOTM. The amount of work he gets through is ridiculous. He'll be covering Young's gaps before charging (or rather running on treacle as his top speed is laughable) through midfield to the RW to play some nice one touch triangles or floating in a cross. He's so good at setting the tempo too. If the oppo have momentum he will take to the ground and slow it down - or if it's a game that need the pressure taking off he will get stuck in. Matic was good yesterday and did some great running back to stop the counters - but compared to Ander he was still sloppy late on when fatigue set in. A proper captain.

Number of tackles and interceptions he wins is just amazing, his work rate is immense. Yeah he can do better with the ball but defensively he is just brilliant.

Stats wise he should be among the best when it comes to tackles and interceptions for a midfielder.

Only Gueye (4.4) and Moutinho (3.8) wins more tackles per 90 mins than Herrera (3.6)

Only Chambers (3.2) makes more interceptions than Herrera (3.1) per 90 mins. Gueye wins 2.5 interceptions and Moutinho wins 1.4 interceptions per 90 mins

Only Gueye wins more tackles + Interceptions than Herrera per 90 mins, 6.9 vs 6.7

He's incredibly important to us, especially in big games and away games. Of course, we did miss him against Burnley but I think it was worth the risk to give him a game off with what we have coming up. I can't see him being left out of the team again any time soon... Maybe the Chelsea FA Cup tie if our first leg result against PSG is promising, or Southampton at home in the League.

I dont think he is that bad on the ball either. His biggest issue is he plays it too often save, but he has a good balance between passing and dribbling. He doesnt lose the ball as often as most of our other players when pressed. He had a nice little turn yesterday in midfield, that was nice

His value to this club goes beyond his on the ball ability. He reads the game better than anyone else in our squad and has terrific game-craft. I really hope we can retain him as a coach once he retires.

Very true. When he's used correctly his work rate and ability to read the game allows him to put up defensive numbers that rival the likes of Kante and Fernandinho. He does so much work off the ball and it blows my mind that he hasn't been allowed to play regularly. Having him on form is like playing with an extra midfielder and he's the perfect sidekick for Pogba.

Aye, Stevie Wonder could see how important Herrera is to Ole's system. All United fans know but for some reason opposition fans fail to rate him.

Always been a big game player that was just mismanaged by 3 fecking managers.

It’s amazing the way he is playing, he always seem like a workhorse running his socks off the 90 minutes, great attitude but never at this level.

It demonstrates how much a manager changes players and teams, turn back the clock 2 months and I would had said he was a squad option at most and now he is crucial.

Been reading about Fernandinho's importance to Pep's system and our supposed interest in signing another midfielder i began to wonder; What would it take for Ander to settle into that role for our team assuming Ole is giving the reigns as permanent manager and we continue in our current setup? Considering his strenghts and the fact mobility may decline with age.

I love him to bits. Of all the players who were born and raised in England, knew what Manchester United is all about. But of all of them, he understands Manchester United better. He always talks about fans and the prestige of this club. He is like Evra or Ole for me, since despite being born in another country they loved Manchester United. And this guy loves United and gives his 100 percent.

He was so misused by LvG and Jose. Almost 4 years of his career has been wasted. He always gave his all every time.

A tragedy Mourinho misused/underused so many of players, including Herrera. He's a brilliant midfielder, not world class, but exactly the type of midfielder every top club needs. Do whatever it takes it keep him, Woody!

I looked up the stats at Whoscored (for the PL)

Herrera/Matic:
Tackles pr game: 2.5/1.8
Interceptions pr game: 2.1/1.3
Fouls pr game: 0.8/0.9
Blocks pr game: 0.3/0.6

Shots pr game: 0.9/0.5
Key passes: 0.8/0.5
Dribbles pr game: 0.4/0.7
Foul won: 0.8/0.6
Dispossessed: 0.4/1.4

Assists: 3/0
Goals: 3/1

Basically Herrera is superior in both ends of the pitch except he has less blocks and dribbles pr game. What stands out for me is how Herrera makes almost twice as many interceptions and loses the ball three times less than Matic. I've seen plenty of posts here claiming Herrera needs to be upgraded for next year. Its not him we need to upgrade. Its Matic

Across the Universe....from Old Trafford.
Matic and Ander are different types of players.
Ander is very much a box to box midfielder.
Matic more a holding midfielder. Though he can play further up.
That is why with Pogba as the attacking midfielder with Matic and Herrera supporting him we are pretty solid.

It was interesting to hear Phelan say we could win everything next season with the squad we have.

For me the midfield is the key.

Herrera for me is one of the most underappreciated players on our team. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure he was our player of the season one year. (Jose's first year?) I'm really not sure why he got dropped the next, the passion this lad has for our club is amazing. A few of our players could learn something like that.

How fellaini got more gametime than Herrera I will never know. I'm so glad OGS is playing him regularly again his performances go unnoticed at times. Everyone had so much hype about Kante when he won the league with Chelsea but I'm pretty sure Herreras statistics was better that year (interceptions were and that's what Kante was appreciated for). I'm not saying he's better because he isn't but he's a really valuable player that we have definitely missed in our starting xi. Jose missed the talent.

I'm also pretty sure that Fergie has told OGS to play this guy, he's like his Carrick. Remember, it's not about getting world class players, it's about players like this on the team that graft. Look at Fergies teams, not many world class talents at times and yet we still won consistently. He turned the average players into great players and that's what OGS is starting to do.

he's a fan favorite...if anything, he's massively overrated by the fans.
And last season he was awful, especially during Pogba's injury... 2/10 every games in september and october ffs.
But tbf since Ole took over, he's one of our best player but again last season he was awful. Easily our worst player in 17/18.

To be fair, if you asked him to replace Pogba even now he would look bad. His best form comes playing with Pogba, not instead of him.

Very true. He has very different qualities. He is more like the worker kinda player. And you need them in your team. I remember, Fletcher played for us, he wasn't at all talented or neither was Philippe Neville . But they both were needed so that full backs would go up the field and not worry about their defensive duties all the time or when someone needed to run all over the pitch , they would do that. You need a work horse and that person doesn't need to be most talented but should have a heart.
This guy has that in abundance

Calling him overrated, then say he was 2/10 every game for the course of two months, and calling him to worst player last year...

During Pogbas injury was asked to be the main creative outlet in a team that played slow, passive football - even Pogba struggled to create in that side. It's like asking Eriksen to be the ball winning midfielder and then bemoaning his lack of impact. I remember raising this point several times last season, and yet inexplicably, posters wanted to judge his ability based on a position that leans away from his strengths.

To be fair to LVG, Herrera had a purple patch in front of goal his first season it deceived most fans that he's an attacking midfielder.

Just ignore him. Some people don't understand football.
