Most of the second half. We finished stronger and if anything, had the best chance to win the game. Apart from the goal you created very little

Easily their best player
I think despite the difference in the scoreboard the 5-1 and this 1-1 weren't that different. The 5-1 was closer than the result said, until we scored the second and your team started getting exposed to come back, it wasn't an stellar performance.

Yesterday it was a little worse Barcelona (No Messi or Dembele, Malcom playing) vs a more in form Real, with players getting into the game by merit and not by name.

The first 15 minutes and the last 10 minutes were mostly Madrid and I agree that Madrid had the better first half overall, but Rakitic hit the post and we had as many shots as you did and only one shot less on target the entire match.

If Rakitic doesn't hit the post who knows, but I agree that Bale chance near the end was huge. Both teams were very very sloppy on their counter attack chances.

And Pique isn't getting nearly enough credit for yesterday's match, him and Semedo were two of the three best performers for Barca yesterday.

Barcelona have the best squad in world football, that is a fact. Not an opinion.

You actually do agree with that seeing as I believe you watch the games and follow the other top teams, if you don't like that fact and wish to ignore it because it goes against the narrative that you and a fair few others try to build that Messi is carrying a bunch of shit players on his back by coming here in every match day to shit on every other Barcelona player then that's your problem. Not mine.
Without Messi the squad is a little more than average, the game in Sevilla proves what I'm saying.

How so? Top teams struggle against other teams in their league all the time. And Sevilla are a very good side. Which squads in world football would you place ahead of Barca’s?

Not one game proves anything, especially away to Sevilla. They beat Madrid 5-1 without Messi ffs. Every game has its own story.

The squad is full of world class players who are the absolute best at what they do with capable back ups in nearly every single position. It's the best squad in the world, the constant need of Messi fans to downplay it is truly remarkable. The fact so many get wound up when I point it out but refuse to name one better team says everything really.

There isn't one star player in world football as lucky as Lionel Messi when it comes to the squad around him. There also isn't one star player in world football whose fans love to shit on the squad around that player more than you guys. It was funny at the World Cup but now it's hilarious.

Here you go, all from the past 2 years just to give an example:

Coutinho wasn't this bad last season but he's just completely lost it now. Seems low on confidence and he wasn't ever a Barcelona player anyway. Suarez is just disgusting.
Suarez is such a brainless footballer. And another post.
One on one and Suarez messes it up. Tap ins are the only way he'll score
Literally 3 things Suarez does in a match. Foul, stand offside, misplace a pass.
Suarez is just absolute and complete trash. Ruins every single attack.
I just don't understand why he does it. The guy can't make a simple 2 yard passes these days and insists on trying intricate backheels and nutmegs.
The man is lucky he's got Messi to carry him.
Suarezzz! The pass from Messi  Messi and Alba are a brilliant combo and even Suarez couldn't mess that up.
Luis Bloody Suarez. He can't make simple passes and then tries backheels. Such abject mediocrity.
The goals masked it earlier but his game has become even worse now. Can't run, can't make a 2 yard pass, can't finish, can't stay onside and looks at the same level as Denis Suarez and Delofleu. It's exasperating to watch him play nowadays. Would he get into any Top 6-8 PL sides? I doubt it.
It'll go up ten levels when the Suarez clown brothers and Deofleou aren't in. Suarez really makes my blood boil. Injured or not, his inability to even make a successful 2 yard pass is infuriating.
It really is a travesty that Messi has to play with the likes of Luis and Dennis Suarez. It really is.
Suarez is an embarrassment. Bring on Alcaer bloody hell.
Bloody hell Suarez. He can't even make 2 yard passes
Very impressive performance from everyone other than Suarez. He's been as woeful as ever.
Can Suarez just be sold? He's bloody awful.
Not a bad tactic really because you had plenty of chances on the counter but unfortunately Suarez spoils everything.
Barca really badly need to get an upgrade on Suarez. He's absolutely finished.
If Messi keeps it up, they can still keep winning. Very ordinary side without him and ofcourse Suarez being trash.
Yup, that's arguably just the best striker in the world Luis Suarez there. Now imagine if Messi was playing next to Giroud and Kalinic like Griezmann, next to Mandzukic and André Silva like Ronaldo, next to Morata and Lukaku like Hazard, next to Cavani and Jesus like Neymar, etc.

That's just one example to show the sort of thing I'm talking about. It's prevalent in most sports forums. Just wait and see how extreme it gets if Barcelona actually fail to win the Champions League this season.

By merit would mean 4 substitutions in starting 11. Both FB's, Casemiro for Llorente and Ceballos for Kroos. Playing Marcelo is pure masochism at this point.

The problem with Suarez is that some games who easily looks like the worst player on the pitch and others (like the first clasico) he looks like the best #9 in the world. He was woeful yesterday and with him it's hard to figure out which version of Suarez we are going to get. He absolutely should not be playing every wee, he is too old for that now. He's looked exhausted these past few weeks.

The defense of Barca will be their downfall in CL. Umtiti's injury has destroyed the backline and the right flank for us defensively is an absolute disaster. It looked better with Semedo yesterday but even with him in the games he does play that hasn't been the case all season. Yesterday's was a very pleasant surprise.

This Barca teams leaks too many goals, probably a bottom 2 defensive team for this decade to go along with the 2013 team. No way do they win CL with the current defense.

So everyone that says we don't have such a mighty squad is just a Messi fanboy looking for apologies right?. You're the guru of objectivism because you totally won't try to turn the debate around how good are our players and how one particular superstar underperforms years after year with them, when you don't have any interest to put another player above him.

A couple days ago you talked about agenda and narrative, like anyone who has more than 5 posts in the mvr thread is free of any sin and doesn't act on a totally biased way.

Best striker in the world has had stinkers in 95% percent of the UCL games in the past 3 seasons yet you insist on pointing at him as the best, if the 10 was on the back of that shirt you'd be digging his grave .

Great corner by Joaquin, straight in. Carvalho must be most releived VAR gave it as blasted over from about 2 yards as play continued.

The most ridiculous thing is that I've seen him completely downplay the likes of Kroos, Modric, Marcelo, Ramos, Benzema and what not when Ronaldo was playing while simultaneously going completely over the top when rating players like Rakitic, Jordi Alba and so forth.

Takes some audacity to point the finger on "Messi fans" when he is the one who badmouthes every team mate Cristiano is playing with in order for him to look better. Peyroteo is the Messi of double standards.

I still remember our little discussion just before WC in which he claimed Dembele had much better season than Bale. yes, Dembele who missed 4 months of football and played only 15 games in which he scored 4 goals vs Bale's 21 goals and motm in CL final = Dembele wins  unreal.

Yup, such a pity, they play gorgeous football, maybe if they have enought time to finish their project they can start showing around Europe in EL or even UCL legs.

Man City have the best squad
Their midfield is crazy, even their second unit would compete against any other midfield in Europe

Disagree. The 5-1 was a battering. We had a great 20 minutes early in the second half and could have even equilized sure, but in the other 70 minutes you were good for 5 goals. This time, while you were probably the better team, and certainly controlled most of the match, it was a fairly even affair

I don't care how "excellent" our squad is. The idea that Barcelona have the best collection of players and therefore must win the biggest trophies, otherwise Messi is underachieving, is a poor attempt at creating a narrative.

For starters, Manchester City have a better roster. A comfortably better roster. No Messi, but still a better roster overall.

More importantly, the names on the pitch mean very little if they are not going to be set up well. We won the Champions League with Oleguer, Belletti and Ezquerro on the roster, while we failed to win it the following season when Messi, Ronaldinho, Eto'o and Henry played together. It's about tactics, team chemistry and mentality much more than it is about the names we have lined up.

Ernesto Valverde is an average manager and we will not win the Champions League with him. If we don't draw Roma, we can maybe somehow reach the semi finals. I'd like us to be back in that company, but I don't have hopes of anything more. By then we will have met a team like City or Liverpool and I don't see us getting past that. We play poorly without Messi and I don't have any confidence Valverde can outcoach someone like Pep, Klopp or Allegri.

By June Barca will have 6-7 regular starters all 30 or over.....Pique, Alba, Busquets, Rakitic, Messi Suarez and then you have a squad player like Vidal 32 in a few months.

It's a good squad but not a peak squad imo and think it starts creaking a bit in March-April when they usually go out of CL.

Barca's squad gives Man City's squad a good run for their money IMO. There's not much in it. And this is when you don't even factor Messi.

By June Barca will have 6-7 regular starters all 30 or over.....Pique, Alba, Busquets, Rakitic, Messi Suarez and then you have a squad player like Vidal 32 in a few months.
They also have the likes of Arthur, De Jong, Dembele, Malcolm, Semedo, Roberto, Lenglet, Umtiti, Ter Stegen, Alena, Coutinho (probably to be sold), etc who are all 26 or younger so its HARDLY an ageing squad..

Even assuming they're not as good as Man City, it's a great squad when you compare it to the other UCL candidates. It's a comfortably better squad than Juve's; better than Madrid's; better than Liverpool's and also better than Bayern's who have the real ageing stars.

Barca have a comfortably better squad than City.

Valverde is also not average. The Barca fanbase is average, if anything. Actually below average: appaling is the fitting word.

Man goes unbeaten 37 league games, wins the double, is in pole position in every competition again, several blowouts in Clasicos (3-0 in Bernabeu, 5-1 at home, even without Messi) and they think they have an average manager because of 1 loss when the entire team mentally switched off for 90 minutes after a 4-1 first leg result.

They think Suarez, the guy who is already Barca's top 5 top scorers of all time and will end up 2nd highest by the time he retires, is average as well because he is clumsy at times.

Bunch of teenage kids who started watching around 2009 earliest and think Barca must forever play like prime Xavi, Iniesta, Alves days.

Worst fanbase in the world bar none. There is no support for anyone whatsoever. Even booed one of their own legends, Luis Enrique, who won them the treble and double because of 1 average season. Imagine calling Ole names after he wins treble and double but then wins only the Cup in his third season.

That's utter nonsense.

Have you seen Juve's midfield?? Barca's 3rd string midfield is honestly better. How can you say a first choice midfield containing Matuidi, Bentancur, Khedira and Emre Can is better than Barca's :lol: The only decent midfielder they have is Pjanic and he's sucked this season. Definitely wouldn't start for Barca ahead of Arthur, Busquets or Rakitic.

Barca's first and 2nd choice keeper is also much better than Juve's and in attack Suarez > Mandzukic & Dembele has been better than Dybala this season in the role he's played (Dybala has been wasted out of his natural role).

Their defense is roughly the same with Chiellini being the only defender that you can categorically say stands out for Juve. Bonucci, Caceras and Rugani are on level if not worse than Pique, Lenglet and Vermaelen.

On top of all that, they have far more depth with the likes of Malcolm, Coutinho, Vidal, Semedo, etc that all sit on the bench.

Saying their squad is worse than Liverpool's and Bayern (who are fulling of ageing stars) is also very laughable. Moreover, PSG only have a good attack. Their midfield straight sucks and is several levels below Barca's. Real Madrid's is the only squad somewhat comparable.

I just hope you were trying to troll.

Gnabry and Coman weren't assured starters before this season (not sure they even are now?). Their man stars (Ribery, Robben, Mueller, Boateng) are ageing. I didn't say anything incorrect.

Also, that team is good but it really ain't better than Barca's.

What an idiotic post. Enrique will always be respected in Barca. Mourinho won more trophies for United since Fergie and people still hated him and wanted him out ASAP. United fans aren't much better, so quit with the dumb takes. There are far worse fan bases who have whistled/booed their own players and coaches (Madrid/Chelsea) than Barca.

Enrique's third season was awful and that was that. His 2015 will always have a special place in the heart of Barca fans. It was one of the best teams of the entire decade, as well as one of the most exciting.

Valverde is barely an above average manager. He plays some of the most boring football a Barca team has played in nearly 15 years. Just dire football and he was far too pragmatic. He is better off with an Atletico type team that likes to sit back and grind out 1-0 games.

I think this season he has done a much better job playing the youth and he is quite good at making impact subs. However, despite the record last year in La Liga, nobody will be talking about that 2018 Barca squad several years from now, they played some dire football.
