Through thick and thin: Was the pain worth it?

I don’t want to get too carried away here, but at the time of writing we sit 4th after the vast majority of our fans simply writing it off as impossible. So much can change in the next three months, but at this moment in time I don’t recall the feeling I currently have in my entire time supporting the team.

I think given the option, anyone would choose to just always be successful. Ultimately, that’s never going to be likely, so some years in the “wilderness” (comparatively) were always going to happen. That’s been the Moyes, LVG and Mourinho era and whilst we had some great memories and trophies in that time, we lost our identity on the field as a club and in the stands as supporters.

Now, it seems as though we are embodying once more everything that makes us great. And because we experienced the lows of the last five or so years, this current run of form feels better and more satisfying. A lot of fans of smaller teams who get relegated say that the thrill of being in the championship striving to get back into the PL far outweighs the emotional rollercoaster of just “being” in the premiership. Whilst we are very unlikely to ever be relegated again, our equivalent is getting back to playing football at a level befitting of the history and challenging for titles, and whilst we are still not back to our absolute best, it finally feels like the baron spell is over and the next few years are going to be even more enjoyable because of what we came through.

I love this club so much.

A thread like this should be created in May IF we finish 3rd or 4th, not now. Sarri's Chelsea remains a direct enemy.
Even still, the feeling now about how things are on the field is so different from anything we’ve had in the last five years.

Almost equal to my Joy of Utd being Utd again is seeing Mourinho being utterly destroyed . The man should never have been allowed near our club, his excuses, his protection of self over everything, willingness to destroy players confidence to protect himself, the lack of respect for the club.

Wonderful to see Utd on the rise simply through the return to the basics of what made Utd great for so long. Rediscovering our own identity instead of submitting to anothers.

Ashamed to admit it but under Mourinho's reign I watched more Liverpool and City's matches than United. He had always been my least favourite person in football, and the miserable United I saw in his era didn't help.

Then my favourite person in football became our interim manager, and you know what happened next. I remember seeing United's players running out of the dug out at Cardiff after halftime break with the winning mentality on their faces. Such a simple yet beautiful moment. I'm sorry to ever thought I would stop being a supporter. United you are my life. And I will love you forever.

I honestly think some fans needed to get Mourinho in. It was clear to so many people that he wouldn’t work but the majority of redcafe loved him.

I’m glad he’s gone. Any manager post Mourinho would look good and we don’t have idiots clamouring for him anymore.

This. It’s too soon. But the fact Chelsea are in the Europa (late Thursday night to Sunday afternoon turn around) could effect them down the stretch.

And the reality check is has the club continue to hand out contracts to deadwood FC and our last three transfer windows our spending record is a joke, this club will never be back to our best. With every DDG, pogba, martial and rashford there is your Jones, young, mata, lukaku and Sanchez. Maybe we won’t be in the depressive 6 year state of the team were in, until we see ruthless aggression of players not good enough for the club, I dont see the real good times coming back.

We need a DOF, and we need that idiot Woodward out of the football side of things, along with the ownership realising to be the best you need to invest. Getting by with Jones, young, smalling, matic, mata, lukaku and Sanchez will continue to be a reminder this team needs investing has big clubs should be doing, and at the minute we have an ownership trying to make top 4 on a budget that is outdated by atleast 8 to 12 years

Don't jinx us ffs. There are still too many tough games ahead
It’s not just about this season. It’s about the clear and obvious transition we’ve made back towards what makes us great. Any sort of trophy/CL finish is a bonus based on where we were in December.

Even my cat can see how much we've improved since Jose left. I always said we had the players, the squad etc to be competing but we were hindered by Jose - simply put. Bad management was what cost us. I've not got any quarrels with the board either as they have financially backed every manager since Fergie left however they could have acted sooner with some vital decisions.

To think we probably have 2 or 3 signings lined up in the summer aswell, we will be competing for the league next season I am sure of it.

Too early for this thread nephew, don't jinx us ffs.
I think you’re missing the point of the thread. This feeling will be here irrespective of where we finish and how we do against PSG.

I won't get carried away. It's not like We're back to being champions. Let's see what happens should Ole get the job and assess by the end of next season. So far, I'm enjoying football and Manchester United again and that's enough for this season. Statistics are only statistics.

Same, it just feels better now because of what we have came through.

I know, I'm guilty of that, I just really wanted to use the word 'nephew' :(

We've won a few matches. Save this sort of thing for when we're actually challenging for the title again.

I can't wait to watch our games now. Under Jose I don't think I watched more than 5 this season, I just couldn't do it.

But nope, we haven't achieved anything until now.

This thread doesn't do this at all.

Getting carried away would be talking about us definitely getting top 4 and thinking we actually have a chance at winning the champions league.

The underlying point of the thread is do the fans think that the low times of the last 3 managers make our current run feel even better.

So you're saying you want John Cena as our DOF?

Don’t get what you mean

I am just saying we need a ruthless approach on certain players who should not be starting games or be here if we really want to push on, when you look at what we have like DDG, lindelof, Shaw, Herrera, pogba, martial and rashford, if we could add a RB, CB, DM and a RW to go with these players, the depth and damage we could do in the next few years easily we could challenge for the title. I hope Delot can solve the RB problem out, but to keep the gate padlocked adding a CB, RB and DM all the makings of a title winning backbone and spine with Herrera, pogba and rashford making up what could be one of the best spines in Europe if we add to our weak positions

I love it when the crazies that believe in jynxs and that sort of crap genuinely lose their shit over threads like this.

As if the entire course of history will be forever altered because these words were typed in February and not march

In a weird way I've enjoyed this period more than when we were winning everything. Felt more connected to the club and it seemed that our support was more important.

I probably should have supported City.

This. We have improved immensely but in all honestly the only way to go was up after that abject loss at Anfield.
We have had a nice run of fixtures since but have only faced two tough sides, Spurs & Arsenal.
The next few games will be telling .Beat PSG, Chelsea & Pool and the job is Oles .
